The first visit with Dr. Couch was great and staff was very welcoming. The second visit, was not…read moreso welcoming as I had a financial issue though they where able to help. The issue was the girl who checks you in has no understanding ethics and just rolled her eyes. The doctors care great, but the staff need to work on there people skills and compassion.

I had a hip replacement by Dr. Broome & Physicians Assistant, Maddie Kremer & they were supported…read moreby all in their office & their hospital. From scheduling the first appointment to the surgery to the post-op care, I cannot say enough about how the great the care is / was. Calling or emailing with questions, insurance needs etc. they have always had time for me and providing help / assistance. For my situation I had loss of range of motion occurring / progressing for a long time and did not know what was the cause. Then a light switch turned and my condition degraded into bone on bone pain from hip arthritis. I then went to a local "specialist" in Corpus Christi as I live hear there. After I determined that I did not want to have surgery in Corpus Christi, I waited 3 years after the bone on bone condition started, dreading what I thought the surgery and the recovery would be. When I finally had enough, I did research on the best specialist I could find, the most experienced, the best reviews, searching in Houston and San Antonio as we live in South Texas, and I chose and I am grateful I found Dr. Broome & San Antonio Orthopaedic Specialists. I chose the Tissue sparing method of hip replacement, Anterior hip replacement. I was concerned as everyone I expect would be about pain and recovery. I expected bone pain just because of thinking what would occur during the surgery. For me, there was no "bone pain" with the surgery, as they told me there usually is not. With me waiting 3 years, my hip ball degraded & wore down about 3/4", this also affected my back. For my surgery this required stretching the muscles to allow making the new hip be the same length as the non arthritic hip. This was the only pain I experienced, muscle pain. All aspects of the hip replacement, scheduling, appointments, pre-op, surgery and post op have been great, beyond what I ever could have expected. Also the Doctor's owned Hospital, where I had my surgery, South Texas Spine and Surgical Hospital is Great, and that will be in another review. Doctor Broome has an app for recovery therapy or I can go to regular therapy. The app is what I used. Daily exercises that change regimen each progressing week and this is getting my range of motion back. Before surgery, I had a tough time of reaching my right foot, putting on shoes and socks, bathing, etc., putting on pants, picking up things off of the floor, carrying things that were heavy, kneeling down, standing, walking, when walking and my arm position, crossing my leg, the arthritic hip affecting my back and many other things. The surgery has allowed me to tie my shoes, carry things that are heavy (I am progressing on this with exercises) , cross my legs, reach my feet, even just sitting down in my recliner at home by not having to straighten my right leg and basically fall back into my chair and so many more things be able to do that I have not been able to do for more than 3 years. I will say, I could not have made a better choice than Doctor Broome and San Antonio Orthopaedic Specialists and his staff. If you are waiting for the surgery, or searching for the Right Doctor, Look no further as they are the Best in my opinion. I currently am in 1 month post op and improving daily.

My fiancée was given a referral to Sports Medicine by her Primary Care doctor at Boerne Family…read moreMedicine. I called them on Sept. 16th in the hopes of getting an appointment for her this week. She is having extreme pain in her knee, and we will be leaving for a honeymoon next week. The Sports Medicine Associates were much too busy to answer their phone... they have a system that says it will send you a text message so you can communicate with their 'portal' Klara. I got the automated message on the portal, and left a detailed message that we'd like to have an appointment so that she will be able to walk on our honeymoon. The automated Klara portal said someone would be calling within 24 hrs. Nope... nothing but crickets... The next day (24 hrs after they promised to call) I left another message with the Klara portal. Again... nothing... no response. By now, I'm thinking... these guys are so busy, they don't have a receptionist or office manager that can call us back. Finally, we get a message on the 18th, asking if we can come in on the 19th. The address they give is in San Antonio, in the Medical Center area. My fiancée cannot stand to drive into San Antonio for anything... we were hoping that someone in Boerne could help her. So we ended up saying "forget about it". For all I know, the doctors at this practice might be really talented. We didn't get that far. Just know that they are way too busy to talk to you. Don't worry... their AI portal will also ignore your requests too.

PA CHEN did the initial, prep and all follow up visits. If you want to have a personal relationship with your surgeon probably go elsewhere, if you want a phenomenal surgeon to fix you spine see Dr. Cyr. That being said, Dr. Cyr is not Jesus, he will do an outstanding job putting your spine back together. But it is up to you to do the work. Follow his instructions, lose the extra weight, walk, rehab, exercise, stretch, etc. The more you put in the better your results will be. I am in better shape at 65 than I was at 55 thanks to Dr Cyr. I still lift 60lb bags of concrete, landscaping blocks, etc. Back surgery is brutal, rehab done right is tough. But the results are so worth it! Dr. Cyr is the man!

Later another test, which I expected to be explained what it meant and any ideas on how can I do for myself, no explanation, same cold attitude. I was looking for answers, not necessarily surgery; that I avoid by doing my own therapy

It had been like this for 3 weeks & anti-inflammatory meds & icing weren't helping. I arrived 20 minutes early and had pre-filled my Patient Forms online earlier. The MA, Amanda called me in about 10 minutes before my appt, took a Q&A of my symptoms & told me I'd get an Xray first; The Xray tech escorted me to the back & took some Xrays & I went back to the exam room. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Alexandra Matthews came in & recognized me as I saw her in 2018 for knee pain & treatment. I told her my symptoms & she checked my elbow & confirmed that I had "Tennis Elbow." She suggested a Steroid injection to give relief within 24-48 hours. While she was injecting me she was telling me to think about my upcoming vacation & what I was looking forward to so I wouldn't focus on the stinging feeling. She had given me injections on my knee before so I had an idea. Dr. Matthews was pleasant & had a nice demeanor as in 2018 so I was pleased with that. She even commented on how detailed my answers were on the Patient Forms & she was so happy for that! She wanted me to get PT & a followup appt so next up was Dr. Brandon, the PT. Brandon came in to talk to me about my issue, showed me on a Human Body Muscular diagram what area is affected, why & how they'll approach therapy & modalities. I asked him a few questions & he was very thorough & easy to understand. Afterwards, I set up my appointments on 2 parts of the checkout counter. One for the followup & the other with the PT scheduler. This place is a well-oiled machine & runs with efficiency & professionalism. We'll see how the PT visits pan out!

Getting to this location is easy, and it has a lot of parking in front. During the first several weeks we found parking to be an issue (more folks coming in than they have parking spots). A tip from one of the employees led us to parking in back of the business. After getting that tip, we never had a parking issue again. Upon entering the office the first time, we were immediately greeted by the folks at the front desk. Us being new, they helped us get all the paperwork completed and helped us get ready for PT. Then, very quickly. one of the PT's came out to get my wife and take her back. Although signage indicates that no one except the patient is allowed in back, they invited me back with her. My wife met all the guys who would be working on her (about 5 different PT's worked on her). This was a different experience than I have had at other places (1 PT did all the treatments). She liked all of them (maybe because they were all young and buff), and they all took great care of her. She has not finished her treatments yet, but she is already much better. Will I return? Definitely if/when I need that type of service.
