Japanese is usually one of the meals we head out for and I decided to try Michinoku for lunch as I noticed it across the street after shopping at Commisso's the previous night. Located on the corner of a small strip plaza the restaurant is clean and modern. They had many specials which I think are a good thing at any restaurant. Greeted by a friendly server who seated us at a table for 4 right at the front of the restaurant. We ordered Octopus Tempura, Chicken Teriyaki and Tonkatsu lunch specials, and Spider Rolls. The 2 specials came with an eggplant appetizer, edamame, miso soup, and green salad. These were all great and the salad dressing was very good. I had the pork cutlet which was a relatively thick piece of pork with a nice breading that was light and not greasy. The octopus was nicely breaded, cooked well, not too chewy. The spider rolls were ok but I've had better. The green tea was nice and water for my youngest daughter was served in a small plastic cup. I love little extras like this. All of the food was served on very nice Japanese dinnerware, unlike the melamine stuff you normally see at other places. Overall, service was really good, the server was very attentive and prices are fair, even considering it's Niagara Falls. This will be our new Japanese joint the next time we're back in town!

All the food is prepared with care and tastes great. Standouts for my group were the beef and mushroom bowl, sashimi, peanut curry and calamari. The creme brûlée was also really good for dessert. Service was slower compared to other locations but the staff was all very kind. It's a great way to try a lot of different types of Thai and Japanese dishes in a comforting location.

I really liked the unagi rolls, they were much more generous with the BBQ eel than most other places I've visited where you have to squint to find the eel in your roll. I thought the cashew chicken was excellent and full of flavour. The Thai curry mussels were also great so we even ordered it twice. The calamari was disappointing because it was so heavily breaded that it was hardly recognizable. We were excited to get the beef short ribs, but after more than half an hour without receiving them I asked the waitress and it had been delivered to another table. They made it again for us, but then it was overcooked and didn't feel worth the long wait. By the end of the meal we were too full to have much dessert so we just ordered the fruit combo. I wasn't expecting it to look as nice as the picture, but I would have at least liked to get a strawberry. I'm not sure why they felt the need to take elaborate pictures that look nothing like the final product. When I tried to pay the machine froze after I tapped my credit card so were stuck for another 10 minutes when we were already exhausted from eating so much. Overall our trip was a bit frustrating and the food wasn't as great as we hoped so we wouldn't go back, but it was nice getting to try some of the more unique dishes on their menu.

Lots of paid or free parking in the area. When I stepped into Masaki Sushi, it felt like entering a new calm and peaceful environment compared to the bustling and busy streets of Niagara on the lake. Service was friendly and quick. Sushi and sashimi we had was all fresh and delicious. Good amount of fish. The rice is perfectly seasoned for the sushi and maki. The beef rice bowl was delicious. The meat is tender and seasoned well, sitting atop a bed of fresh greens and rice. The tempura was freshly deep fried with a light yet crispy batter. A variety of vegetables and shrimp to try. The udon was good as well. The noodles had a nice bounce and chew to them. The broth was flavorful without being overly salty. All in all, an amazing meal with great ambience at a higher price point. Definitely a place to treat yourself for delicious Japanese food.

We were able to get in without a reservation on a week day at 7 pm (1 hour before closing), but I would recommend reserving a table. Most of our order contained salmon as this is the fish of our choice, and the quality and freshness were on top. You can easily order on their website and pay online or at pickup. You can choose a pickup time but it calculated when they could make it by, and then they email you when it is ready for pickup. It was actually ready 15 mins before my pickup time! We ordered: 1. Sushi (12 pc) and Sashimi (12 pc) Combo A ($43.99). 2. Salmon Sushi (3 pc) ($6.99). They tend to use similar pieces for the sushi and sashimi. But there were 2 scallop sushi that didn't appear as sashimi. The Combo A was in a big round plastic container and everything was laid out nicely and some sushi where enhanced nicely. For example, the 3pc Salmon Sushi was plain as expected but the Salmon Sushi in the Combo A has sesame seeds and a thin slice of cherry tomato. Every piece was extremely fresh and the seafood were cut very thick. For 2 people, we were already full after about 18 pieces. I just had to force myself to eat the delicious remaining pieces ... it didn't take much convincing! They do sell other items like appetizers, classic Maki rolls, big Maki rolls, special Maki rolls, chef special sushi and sashimi, poke bowls, and party trays. Service was very courteous. When asked for more ginger, they gladly have 2 more little containers of ginger. The restaurant only has 1 table with 2 chairs. In the they'll will have more when they have more help in the kitchen. There is a big couch for people to sit if they need to wait for their order, like when they walk in to order. There was no free WiFi.  The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are no customer washrooms. There is free parking in the shopping mall parking lot. Review 2023-047

Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. My husband ordered nigiri sushi: red snapper and white tuna. Both of these were bland, with a mushy mouthfeel. My oyster had lots of sheen and liquor, but they were clearly harvested long ago, and were shriveled in their shells. Both of us left with upset stomachs. As a topper, our young waiter asked us as we settled the bill, "Why are you old folks out during the busy time?" OMG.
