peter and i decided to get away for the week-end with the dogs. we wanted to go somewhere we had both never been to but still close to home (amsterdam) and dog friendly. peter doing his online searches on dutch websites found this place in zeeland. zeeland, by the way is a 2 hour drive from amsterdam. it's the most southern province along the north sea.
checking in was straight forward and the staff was very friendly. fyi.. they charge a dog fee of 8eu per dog per night and lucky us they gave us a free upgrade to an apartment style room. The apt was very spacious and clean with a kitchen (which we never used) and a separate bedroom. it was very nice but it lacked coziness. i thought it was actually a bit sterile. so being the annoying person i can be sometimes decided to go to the front desk and ask what the other rooms looked like? the staff was pleasant about my request and gave me the keys to a room to look at. the regular room was nice but it didn't have a bathtub. so we decided to keep our apartment room because it also had a nice terrace attached to it. but i just had to compare the rooms to make sure...haha.
the room included a free wellness center that could be used as often as we wanted during our stay. you could also choose to get a robe and slippers for 6 eu. we decided not to do that. fyi... it's naked only and coed. after stressing out about it.. i finally gave in but asked for two towels...haha. the wellness center has a HUGE hot tub, steam rooms, sauna and another type of room that radiated heat from these red long bulbs... sorry forgot the name of it. there is also a small outdoor pool and a small dining area for drinks and snacks. it's very clean and well maintained.
we decided to eat at the restaurant for dinner and chose the 4 course buffet. i had the most amazing smoked mackerel and steamed salmon, probably the highlight of my meal and maybe the dessert, creme brulee. since it was the week-end the place was packed and a bit understaffed. but the staff was friendly despite the franticness they had on their face.
for a four star hotel it was well priced (low season rates but week-end rates of 110eu per night including the dog fees and a free breakfast buffet) and we both enjoyed our stay here. it's close to beautiful beaches and the delta works dam. a very impressive dam/bridge that the dutch are masters of building. you can see it from the beach we hung out at which was close to the hotel. if you're looking for a little get away to a beach town in the NL i suggest zeeland and this hotel.
