When I signed up the AMA agent typed in my bank account number wrong, but I didn't know this until 2 months later when they cancelled my insurance without my knowledge. (I had to pay 2 months upfront because I'm new to Alberta). I drove around for several weeks without insurance without knowing it. They claimed they sent a registered letter, which I never recieved. They did not call or email. When I went to their offices, they told me I didn't have insurance anymore and it could not be reinstated because it had been several weeks since it was cancelled for non payment. Then when I went to get my insurance again they said I had to pay the 2 months upfront again, they said I once again had to pay 2 months upfront, and my rate was more going to be $40 MORE PER MONTH. They also said it would take 3 weeks to "fix". No compensation or anything was offered for their mistake that caused a very dangerous situation, not to mention I have a disability and need a car to get to do everything since walking us difficult. read more

Paul arrived right on time and immediately began diagnosing my dead battery problem. He did extensive testing including on the alternator. He finally (after listening to my driving habits ((and whole life history)), determined that my battery needed to be replaced, which he did with efficiency and care. I was so impressed with Paul's friendly and kindly assessment of my problem and the prompt way and efficient way he solved it. I can't thank Paul and AMA enough. Summer at 7:00 am in the morning and I have to wait 8 hours for roadside towing when I have AMA PLUS card - what a JOKE!!! Horrible service for no reason! won't be renewing our memberships next year. Faster and cheaper to call any local Calgary tow company. read more

AMA is the biggest joke of a company I have ever delt with. My mom and I were driving out of the city when we got a flat tire. When I called for a tow truck, they said since it's not my vehicle there's nothing they can do. The 2 ladies I spoke to were miserable and came across as rude and unprofessional. I forget one of the ladies name because her attitude made me not want to remember, the other named "Dixie". Even though I pay for a membership, the membership gets me nothing but a bitchy women on the other end of the phone. When they didn't let ME use MY perks (that I pay for) of MY membership, they proceeded to tell me a tow truck would be 1071$. that is just absurd. I hope the company fixes their costumer service problems and fires the people who don't know how to be civil with a teenager trying to help their mom on the other line. We are still sitting on the side of a busy highway waiting for help, which AMA could not provide. I do not recommend this waste of space company. And to Dixie, you're a bitch. read more

After being a member for 30 plus years I am completely embressed by the AMA's obstructionist customer service. After 8 months of messing around with the AMA to do a basic licence renewal, I went to another Registry and had it done in 11 minutes. There is no explainition for this complete level of piss poor service, refusing to provide information on the steps that allegedly needed to be completed, and resistance to do basic tasks allegedly provided by the AMA. I am so angry and disappointed, I literally do not know what to do. Shame on you. This is why businesses fail. read more

My youngest took her drivers test through AMA 17th Ave and although she didn't make it on her first attempt, the staff we dealt with were very kind and sympathetic. Coming back the next week the front desk lady recognized her and gave her a pep talk as we were waiting. The testing instructor was thorough in her explanation of which skills she needed to work on and celebrated verbally with her when she passed. The cashiers were helpful and gave great advice around their services and also insurance going forward. All this and the cost was less than what we would pay through Alberta Registries. I would highly recommend this location. read more

waited 30 minutes in line only to find out that no staff were certified to complete my annual returns. then wanted to speak to a travel agent only to find out I needed to "book" an appointment. AMA service has declined over the years. why do I bother paying an annual fee, I now ask myself. read more

Absolutely flabbergasted at the mistreatment of ama roadside. My senior parents car broke down and I called to renew the membership at a plus. They tacked on extra fees on top of the $200 + dollars I had already spent. Then proceeded to have them wait five and a half hours in the freezing cold. Very rude service when I called them. I came in to update my address friday for my liscence and registration, I was the last customer of the day and it was a little bit of a rushed interaction. No big deal. However Monday morning when I was going to go to parking authority to get a pass I realized I did not have a need registration like I asked. I assumed they just forgot to do that part since I was the last one of the day and had they just forgotten to give it to me they could have called me as they have my number. So I went to a registry by my house and did an update there and was given a new registration. This morning I have now been mailed the registration the AMA employee neglected to give me. And no one is allowing me to get a refund for one of the registrations despite it being their fault. Very disappointed, as a new AMA member I'm definitely not impressed. read more

In my experience, the wait times here are always fairly short and the people are always helpful. Best of all, when I called ahead to say I would be late for an appt to get Tenants Insurance, Will not only waited up for me, he even had a hot cup of coffee waiting for me when I arrived! I will definitely continue coming to this AMA branch in the future. read more

AMA gave my family a Christmas miracle. My daughter, her husband and 2 sons we driving from Calgary to BC to spend the holidays there. A semi crossed the line, and the only way to avoid a head-on collision was for her to hit the ditch. She hit a concrete barrier there at 90 km an hour, but they were all alive. I rented a local room for them, they when to the hospital where they found my daughter had a fracture to her back and arm, he husband a concussion, and the kids has bruising only. The truck was a write-off. With no bus service, or car rental open until the new year, it was not certain how they would get home. AMA decided to send an extended cab tow truck, and bring everyone home. God bless you AMA! read more

AMA! I have been thinking of getting this membership, but just didnt get a chance. Recently, our car was in a road accident and as per the AMA site which says that they help even if it's your friends car, they help, I requested a friend with membership to help me get the car to the collision centre. They did not do it! She had to gift me a membership to get this job done. I called AMA then with the new membership # to get the car towed, but they still did not as they said it was my membership and I was not driving the car and my husband was, he needs to have a membership! Well, I got him as joint member on the membership by paying $54.60! I was told at the time that I will have 5 towings on it for the year. The car was delivered to the collision centre and since their estimate was too high, I decided to move to another body shop using my 2nd tow with AMA. Guess what? They charged me another $122.2 saying that it was the same car that they just towed a week ago! Which means that I need to have 5 cars to use the 5 towings that I receive with the membership! My friend paid for my membership, I paid $54.6 for my husbands joint membership and the 2nd towing is costing me $122.5. The total between my friend and myself has so far been about $250 to get the car where it needs to be. Is it really worth my while to have this membership? I could have paid to any towing company that amount and got it done without a hassle! I will not give any starts to AMA roadside assistance as it has been only stress and money at every step of the way for me. I do not recommend this membership to anyone. By the way the AMA site home page still says that you can get a friends car towed, which is BIG LIE. They did not do it without having her pay for my membership. I had to rate 1 star to post this, but I do do not give it any star! read more

Terrible Service Why pay for a membership when you need them they are not available for 24 hours or more....This is not right, they know the kind of weather we have and when they are going to be busy - if they can't handle the calls...outsource or get help..Call in the summer, how many people need help in the warm weather, cold and snowy and lots of trouble out there...where is AMA, collecting my membership fees, alright but when you need them......GOOD LUCK!!! Asked for a tow today 24 hours or more....I pay my membership...guess what..called an independent company and got a tow in less than 2 hours and guess what....only $63.00..Why bother with AMA membership I ask????? Also when you get your registration done they charge you an extra $9.00 because they can. Go to a registry and guess what no extra $9.00 charge. Yes I will definitely be cancelling my membership and telling everyone I can about what a complete rip off this is. Been a member for years and need them once...good luck..Yes it is cold, Yes the roads are bad - we live in Calgary...what do you expect. Weather changes....get more people on the road to help service members. We all pay our membership dues....where are they going??? Apparently not to help members in need. HEADS UP AMA Members if being a member pays as they advertise I'd like to know for what? Did you know that Service Alberta sets the fees for services and the Registries themselves are allowed to charge a service fee the govt. sets maximum service charges for some items like vehicle registry renewals up to a max. of $9.00 AMA charges the max. and the line up is long especially on Monday. Additionally for things like Corporate Annual Returns the registries can charge what ever they want for the service fee. (AMA was higher and would not offer a refund but they did match the price from elsewhere.) BUYER BEWARE - SHOP AROUND your best price with good service is NOT at AMA. So why be a member it doesn't really pay. You pay and pay more. read more
