I would have given zero stars if possible. This station is terrible. I called the station to…read morediscuss an issue I had and was told I was talking with one of the producers on staff. I was then yelled at, called names and cussed out. If I were you, I would find a different station to listen to. The Drive with Tim Connely out of the Triangle is on youtube and super nice people.

Growing up in High Point, I listened to a lot of AM talk radio. I know, I was an exciting kid. 600…read moreWSJS, then based in Winston-Salem, was one of two stations I listened to a lot. 1230 WMFR, based in High Point, was the other. WSJS is named after two local newspapers, the Winston-Salem Journal and the Twin City Sentinel. The letters WSJS stand for Winston Salem Journal Sentinel. The Sentinel merged into the Journal which still exists today. The station began in Winston-Salem in 1930 and the studios moved to their current location in Kernersville in 2016. I just wanted to listen to entertaining news talk programming. The local NPR affiliate, 88.5 WFDD, was too boring for me (NPR isn't as boring to me these days; guess I've gotten old). Little did I know, as a middle-schooler and high-schooler in the 90s, I was listening to conservative talk radio. I did grow up in a conservative household and community, so it was all I really knew at the time. I listened to quite a bit of Rush Limbaugh and Dr. Laura Schlessinger. I actually always found Dr. Laura to be annoying (so did my mom, I think); for me, in a lecturing schoolteacher sort of way. I'd often tune Dr. Laura out when her program came on, but sometimes, for whatever reason, I'd leave the radio on and tuned to her. Other national radio personalities I listened to during this time included Tom Leykis and Art Bell, but I believe they were on 1230 WMFR. During this same period, WSJS was the local affiliate for UNC Chapel Hill men's basketball and football. If I recall correctly, WMFR was the local affiliate for Duke men's basketball and football. I can't recall who the local Wake affiliate was at the time (and I was a Wake fan!). Maybe WFDD? WSJS switched from news talk to sports talk in 2017.
