The staff were nice and the procedure was over before I knew it. Very good experience there

I had an endoscopy in this office on September 5. When I first saw him regarding the endoscopy he had me view a video from past patients who told how they didn't feel a thing and how they woke up after the procedure feeling fine. My experience was completely different. First of all, one of Dr. Au's associates did the procedure. It would have nice to have been told beforehand that he wasn't the one who would do it. The nurse put in an IV and I expected to go into twilight sleep. Instead, it was just enough to make me drowsy. I felt everything! When the tube went deeper into my throat I thought I was choking. I couldn't talk but tried with my arm to let the doctor know. The nurse took my arm and held it down till I couldn't move. I don't understand why she couldn't have increased the medication. It was so awful! I go back to get the results but after that I will never step foot in that office again. I thought Dr. Au was nice and professional during my first appointment and I assumed he would do the procedure. I'll never go back and I do not recommend this office. Hello I have been a patient of Dr. Au for many years, and l have excused a lot of his unprofessional behavior, because he had provided thorough testing to rule out or locate a problem. Today however, l have reached my limit. I was originally referred to a cardiologist by my PCP after experiencing several bouts of excruciating chest pain, followed by vomiting. My worksite sent me to the e.r. in fresno 2x via ambulance due to the above. Following a full battery of tests l was cleared by my cardiologist. Dr. Au ordered an endoscopy performed by someone else in his office, which revealed a hiatial hernia and a peptic ulcer. Although Dr. Au prescribed 2 medications, the chest pain which felt like a heart attack and vomitting attacks occured at least twice a week. They were diabilating and caused almost weekly absences from work as well as, an inability to walk upright for more than a few steps during an attack or flare up. My cardiologist said that this was due to the hiatial hernia and its location in the center of my chest. Today, Dr. Au minimized my pain and discription of my symptoms, as l asked for options to fix the hiatial hernia. He stated that the hernia was small and invalidated my pain which he dismissed and esophageal spasms or from my ulcer. Please note that l have experienced zero stomach pain or burning. I explained to Dr. Au that l could not continue to miss work or pull off the road while driving due to severe chest pains followed by vomitting, which occurred each time on an empty stomach. Dr. Au responded by talking over me, and rushing my appointment. In fact, he got up and started to walk out of the room while l was still seated, nor had finished talking to him. As he walked out of my uncompleted appointment and exam room, I tried to discuss the medication he'd precribed and how it was incorrect and not in a large enough bottle to take as prescribed 4 x daily. The bottle was @ 6 ounces and he prescribed 10 ml, 4x daily. My appointment was continued at the counter in the hallway, as he had exited the confidential exam room before completion of my appointment. I informed Dr Au that l had called his office repeatedly and explained the medication problem, only to be passed from person to person and then told they would need to speak to Dr. Au. Nothing was done. Today, Dr Au flippantly replied that unless l knew the name of the people l spoke to, there was nothing he could do and again walked off and enetered another patients room. In short he could care less. Maybe he is unaware that his staff does not identify themselves when they answer the phone. They say, "DR. Au's office." Dr. Au was dismissive, rushed my visit, talked over me, exited my appointment before completion, and unwilling listen to his patient. The behavior displayed was unprofessional and unethical. I just don't understand why appointments are needed. I had an appointment at 430pm. I arrived at 420pm, vitals were taken at 510pm, and was sent back to the waiting area. I was told it could be at least another hour..... it is now 621pm most of the nurses have left and still waiting.... and now finally I'm called to the room at 638pm REALLY. Come on... very unacceptable. Let's see how long it takes the "doctor" to actually see me.... and while waiting I'm staring at a cockroach in the corner "doctor" finally here at 658pm " I said all of this to the doctor... he had no explanation. As for the cockroach on the wall, I said.. there better not have been any roaches in the room where the colonoscopy was performed. He grabbed a paper towel and disposed of it. Needless to say. How dare the doctor talk to me and my husband who was under Anastasia during our results that we were going to get "two weeks later" and not in front of a whole staff in the open with other families near by (strangers) and everyone listening to our diagnosis. Talk about HIPAA compliance. My emotional distress was beyond in that moment uncomprehending. We were unprepared for the news we received that day! Talk about being put in the spot! I did express my feelings directly to the doctor and of course I was disregarded by him. He talked over me felt like he was entitled or something. He had the audacity to tell me how I was feeling and said "I was just mad" over the diagnosis and information he just gave us. NO SIR NOT MAD! IN THAT MOMENT I WAS SAD MY HEART BROKEN AMD WEAK. How dare he tell me how he thought I was feeling. Shame on you. It's doctors like him that give good one a bad name! Please remember the families you deal with are humans and try and remember why you went to medical school in the first place or why you chose this path. His staff was so wonderful at the facility ! He even shamed one girl in front of me for stapling two of the same Copy's for my records and threw the paper at her. Wow just wow! They apologized in his behalf but it was not for him to apologize. I was seeing Dr Au for liver cancer. He referred me to UCSF in Jan 2023 where I was successfully treated with Y90 (which is a strong radiation). I am forever grateful for the recommendation. But it's unfortunate that the office staff is difficult to work with. The office wait time is very long! Sometimes getting through on the phone was also very difficult. There were many times where the staff were very rude when I asked questions. Overall I wouldn't recommend going to this clinic unless you really have to. read more

I have been waiting since early June for Ar. Au's Office to send a copy of my files. I called the Medical records in Hanford, only to get no answer as to if they even got my first 2 messages. I finally called the Visalia office as that is where I go. The person who answered the phone said she would get right on it, which confused me as I was told medical records are through his Hanford office. I do not have those copies yet, but was told when they were ready, they could transport the records to Visalia for me. tic toc tic toc tic toc. Still not here. Called Hanford, AGAIN a week ago,and they were still not ready but they would send to Visalia office. I have never been treated this way by ANY medical doctor's office. I have not called my primary to get another referral until I get those notes from my file. The last time I went to Dr. Au's office, they wanted to do a 2nd endoscomy (sp), which had NOTHING to do with bloody stool, which is what I was referred back over to his office. read more

After my procedure with Dr. Au, I received a call from Michelle from scheduling. She told me I had a malignant mass and cancer over the phone. Days after, when I met the oncologist and oncology surgeon that Dr. Au referred me to, they informed me that the mass was benign and no cancerous cells were found. I also had to wait for 3 hours during my initial appointment with Dr. Au. When I brought this to the attention of the office staff they said that they had "forgot to check me in". ‍ This office has many incompetent, unprofessional, unjust and unethical employees. read more

Would have given no stars as they are very unprofessional and illegal office trying to extort more payments and income form patients and insurance companies. They have authorizations that are approved and refuse to pay. I have contacted my insurance, my medical plan and the Licensing agency with the state due to there illegal actions. They have lied the whole process and have been very very unprofessional. The PA Lydia is racist and called me fat. The scheduler Jennifer lied that the move was due to underlying medical conditions which I have non, then changed to a billing issue then to a referral issue . Then the office manager Michelle flatly said they would not do the procedure as it was authorized and approved but no guarantee of payment can be made and they are not contracted and as such would not receive the most money they can. Christine with Key medical stated that it was approved and most all procedures approved are paid. Found out the office is contracted with Healthnet but the surgery center not as they do not want to pay the contract prices. I cancelled my mother's appt. for a consultation to see Dr. Au, after so many negative reviews not only from this site, but from other people. With my mother's insurance, she didn't have much of a choice, but to go to him. I called her insurance and found a GI doctor in Tulare. I will drive my mother that far, just so she doesn't have to see Dr. Au. I have had experiences with him also and did not like him at all. Check with your insurance to see if there is other GI doctors around, even if it means going out of town. He did a GI test on my nephew's wife and he said she was fine. She wasn't fine. She finally went to another doctor and he found a huge mass in her that almost killed her, and he missed it! Dr. Reznik in Hanford was the best doctor for my mother, but he wasn't contracted with her new insurance. read more

This is the worst Dr. Office I have ever been to. My first visit I had to wait 45 minutes past my appointment before I was called back. Than I was called the day before my procedure and was told to come in an hour earlier than scheduled, I got there and waited 2 hours, now I was called in a week before my scheduled follow up appointment and I am told I have to fill out all the paperwork again because they can't find it because its been so long since I was last here ( less than a month). This is the 3rd time this month I've been here, and I've had two bad experiences. During my pre-op I waited about 30 minutes to be called back. Then another 15-20 to see the doctor. The nurse that called me back, did not look professional at all. hair was all over the place kind off look. She took my blood pressure 4 times because the machine wouldn't give a reading. Talk about having a numb arm. At the end they had another nurse go through the paperwork for my procedure. She gave me a stack of papers and told me to sign. I asked what it was and she said she would explain after I signed. In that case, I'll take my time to read it before I sign. I didn't like that at all. I decided to go through with the procedure two weeks later. And that want bad at all. The nurses were even nice. I just got out of my follow up appointment. I waited 50 minutes to be called back. Then 15 minutes to see the doctor. I allotted 1 hr 10 minutes for this appointment and was still late to work. I had too tell the receptionist I had been waiting and had too be at work in 15 minutes. I had the same issue with blood pressure machine again. I'm giving them 3 stars because the actual GI doctor and the procedure were good. Next time I will find a different place. read more

No respect for time. Waited over an hour and fifteen minutes with nothing done! Not even seen. Walked out! I don't mind waiting but when there is absolutely NO respect for my time I just can't chew that! Oh, and people with disabilities be aware this place is not very handicap accessible. This poor lady in a wheel chair had the hardest time even getting in the door. The front door has stairs so wheelchairs must use the back door which is freaking locked! I tried to use this door because it's the main door facing the parking lot, it was locked, so I waited in my car for an additional 15 minutes, then decided to try again. No sign posted to use other door -which I didn't even know there was a "front" enter because their parking lot is located right infront of this locked door. Pretty sure this is not up to handicap regulations (maybe grandfathered in?!?) nor mine. read more

Was told to have wife at office for Endoscopy at 12:00 went and ran errands. At 2:15 went back into office to find she hadn't even been prepped for procedure yet!! If you can't have common decency to pick up phone and tell us that your running behind maybe your in the wrong line of work. Peoples time is just as important as a Dr. I will never go back to this office. FYI there regular Dr. Appointments are damn near as bad. Update it's now 4:15 and she's still in there!!! read more

I didn't believe my Friend I should call & see how far behind they are. Got here 15 minutes early been waiting half hour & expecting it will be longer. Pissed & regretting I took an hour off of work. This is my followup & consultation was just as bad. Surgery day left me with a sour taste in my mouth. Staff is great, but Dr never said two words to me before starting procedure prior to me being put under. Just sad that when a Dr knows a procedure is evasive he would make patients feel comfortable. I eventually walked out when the MA said there were 3 people ahead of me. I could have left work when I got off & made it in the time I waited. The Dr can now followup with my PCP, send me results or have his Staff schedule an appointment that better suits his schedule. read more

Had a pleasant experience at the office. Found the staff to be helpful and courteous for the most part. Very busy office with busy patient flow. I did find out that to see the doctor personally on office visits it must be requested, although physician assistants are very knowledgeable and have good bedside manner as well. I have two major complaints about this doctor's office. First is their habit of routinely keeping people waiting well over an hour. I could understand if it happened occasionally, but not every appointment. No explanation, no apology; that's just the way the office is run. They way over-schedule and I've been there when they had more people than chairs available in the waiting room. The day of my procedure I was told to arrive at 9:00am and was finally taken in at noon. The "we'll get to you when we get to you" attitude conveys a lack of respect for others' time. As others have reported, the doctor didn't speak to me before, during, or after my procedure. My other complaint is that twice they have changed my appointment without notifying me. Several days before my appointment I received a reminder by phone... but she had the wrong day. When I said that wasn't the correct date, she insisted it was. They had changed it, but just let you think you made a mistake. The second time it happened I had kept my appointment card, so I knew I had the correct date. When I asked what happened to my original appointment, the receptionist just shrugged her shoulders and didn't answer me. read more

On my first visit I filled out the information form. At that time I was working for a major company and had Health-net ins. After my 2nd visit, I was now retired and filled out all the forms again. Within 2 weeks I was getting phone calls from Tri-Care and medicare. His office staff didn't read the new form, just put in my S/S number which showed I had health net. It took me over 6 months to get it all straight. I was also getting a bill from his office every month for over $400. I took the bill back to them and said "you screw it up you fix it". They just don't pay attention and were very rude when I said I wasn't going to pay the bill. I saw Dr. Au on my 1st visit which was in 2001. I have had 3 colonoscopy's since then. Last one in 2018 and have never seen Dr. Au except for my initial visit. My advise is find anther Dr. near you. Don't go there. You will never see the Dr. so you can ask questions regarding the results of the procedure. I now have another DR. here in Hanford who really seems to care about your concerns and is very willing to answer them. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DR. AND STAFF. read more

Although I was referred to Dr. Au, I have never yet after three appointments even met him. I am not sure why. His PA handles the appointments. I don't think the doctor is even in this Visalia office but rather in Hanford. The PA, I believe, intends to be helpful although she is insisting I again use medications that did not help in the past when my internist had me try them. My worst experience is happening now with the totally inept office staff. An appointment was to be made for a CT scan for me by this staff. After three weeks and multiple phone calls on my part, this has still not been done. The staff person who should do this is never in the office so I am told. No one returns my calls. I am at a loss as to what to do now. Do stay away from this practice. I am getting no help here. read more

If you hate waiting don't come here. If you actually want to see your Dr. Don't come here. I saw Dr. Au for about the 3-5 minutes it takes for the anesthesia to take effect. The first visit was with an assistant and follow up was with the assistant. I'm even skeptical if they performed the procedure because symptoms came back a few months later. read more

This was a terrible experience I waited over an hour after my appointment time only to be taken back to a filthy dirty exam room to wait another 20 minutes. My appointment was with the doctor for a consultation and I was seen by the PA. The office staff bickered the entire time I was in the waiting room. The communication from this office is terrible! My husband had a colonoscopy and everything was fine. He received paperwork several days ahead of time with clear instructions along with date and time of appointment. After that procedure everything went downhill. My husband was told that the endoscopy needed to be done at the hospital instead of in Dr. Au's office due to the risk of complications. My husband was told over the phone that the appointment was for March 8th at 11:30 and he had to be a the hospital at 11:00. He was told that they would send paperwork with all the info he would need. Paperwork never came. At 2:00 pm the day before we got a reminder call from an outpatient surgical center that the appointment was at 10:00 and he had to be there at 9:00. Since he was going under anesthesia I had to go with him. I was at work and didn't get the news until 3:30 pm while I was at a training. So I had to return to my classroom at 5:30 p.m. to redo lesson plans since I was then going to have to be out a full day instead of just a 1/2 day. We showed up at the outpatient facility. 3 hours later I get called back. The procedure wasn't done because my husband is considered high risk so it was being moved to the hospital. So off we went to the hospital where we waited again. They finally called him back. About 2 hours later I was called back. The procedure hadn't been done because potassium levels were too high. The manager of that section of the hospital apologized profusely. He said had he known we were coming that day, he would have requested labs the prior day and if the procedure had to be canceled we would've known that the previous day. We still have had no word from Dr. Au's office as to when the endoscopy will be rescheduled. We were gone yesterday and about 8;00 p.m. in the evening we picked up a message from the hospital reminding my husband that he had an appointment today at 10;00 and needed to be there at 9:30. We had zero idea what the appointment was for. My husband has been sick all week and it was too late at night for me to get authorization to take the following day off work, so my husband called the hospital this morning to let them know he wouldn't be there. Come to find out it was not for an endoscopy, it was for a totally different procedure that my husband had never been told about. There hasn't even been a phone call from Dr. Au's office. What doctor schedules a patient for a procedure and doesn't bother to tell the patient or even give the patient the chance to ask questions and understand what is being recommended and why? It's so crazy that I'm still flabbergasted by it. This medical office does not communicate with patients at all. I wish I had researched him before we ever started down this path. I have written a 2 page letter to Dr. Au's office about this. In the meantime, my husband is most likely going to find a different doctor. I would never recommend this doctor to anyone and in fact, will tell people who NOT to go see! Very unprofessional with terrible communication!! read more

What's is up with this place my family has to routinely see this dr. Office because of referrals and insurance but I can't believe how long the wait is. There will be times when the wait is more then two hours...my ill family member have to wait two weeks or longer for an appointment for health related issues that are important and very worrisome to them and they have to wait longer to get their results. My dad has been misdiagnosed on occasion and my mom has been having problems with the office staff not doing there job... Sometimes the staff there will forget to fax referrals to insurance so that makes the wait even longer sometimes even months . And these are very series health issue that can't wait months to be taken care of . But the staff doesn't seem to see the importance. Continuously on countless occasion family member will have to call to see if referrals were sent in because if we don't the insurance will never receive them . Come on office get your act together this is a health care professional office not Taco Bell were its ok to mess up an order. I don't recommend this place what so ever and feel bad my family has to be seen there because this is what insurance provider recommends. read more
