We booked a room for our family 9 months before the Taylor Swift concert. We specifically booked…read morethe penthouse room to make the visit special. Other than the initial confirmation email with my confirmation number, I did not get any other correspondence from the hotel directly. When we arrived we checked in and went to our room on the floor labeled "penthouse," but our room was across the hall. It did not have any of the features that had been mentioned for the penthouse--balcony, sitting area and air conditioning. When we asked at the front desk we were told that somehow we had 2 reservations so they decided to cancel one for us--the one for the penthouse. Since I only had the one email I'm certain there was only the one reservation. Then I remembered seeing a Best Western logo on the website. I searched my inbox for Best Western and found an email sent the day before with a new reservation number, a downgraded room category and a higher rate than I had reserved for the penthouse which was now occupied by someone else. We presume that the day before our arrival someone got upgraded to the penthouse and we got "a new reservation" at the prevailing higher rate for the lesser room. Given that this hotel and every other in the area was sold out for the event, they assumed we either wouldn't notice or there would be nothing we could do about it. The front desk informed us that we would have to wait for the manager to arrive the next morning and said "everywhere is sold out." I was on the phone with Best Western and they couldn't figure out how the new reservation was created. They called the hotel and had no luck either. Luckily I found a room in Dortmund that was perfect and even saved us money. Unfortunately in a two week vacation that went from Paris to Belgium and then Germany, this was our only bad hotel experience, but it was epically bad and so disappointing. This room was the very first thing I reserved for the trip immediately after I got the concert tickets. I didn't even have flights yet. I was so relieved to have found a beautiful room at a hotel that would be a close drive to the concert, but to arrive and be told that I didn't book the room I thought I did was frustrating and insulting. The best thing I can say is that they didn't charge us for the room.

This is the best Weiner Schnitzel I have ever had. This restaurant, which is located inside a…read morebeautiful hotel, had a wonderful wine list, a pleasant atmosphere, authentic German food, and English menus. The service was excellent, I'd definitely go again the next time in in town.
