I've never had to write a review like this or any at all really, but my experience at Alter'd Beauty Salon on August 8th was genuinely upsetting. I booked a $270 custom color as a treat for myself for going back to school. Instead, I walked out with damaged hair, a sore scalp, and a color that wasn't even close to what I asked for.
The stylist immediately raised the price to $350 when I arrived before even handling my hair or anything because of its length and volume (okay I get it). The appointment was supposed to take 3-4 hours, but I was stuck there for 6.5. I showed her the video inspiration three times and explained the warm dark brown shade I wanted not a super dark brown. I left blonde. No brown. Just full highlights if thats what I can even call it. I was so nervous about this appointment and tried many times to get her talking because it makes me more confortable and she didn't seem to want to talk at all, which made me more uncomfortable. I didn't even know her name because she never told me.
She brushed through teased, bleached hair while removing foils, and by the time I left, my scalp hurt and I had a headache. I cried on the way home because of how utterly disappointed I was.
When I called Monday to ask for a partial refund, she acted like she couldn't care less. She talked over me, offered only $75 back, and I still haven't received it. AND IS NOW SAYING SHE DOESN'T FEEL COMFORTABLE REFUNDING ME ANYTHING AS OF TODAY and I am now blockes. She suggested I come back for lowlights, but I don't trust her to touch my hair again and I'm a full‑time caretaker, so driving an hour back one way isn't realistic anyway.
I expected professionalism and skill from someone with 7+ years of experience and the owner of the salon. Instead, I left feeling dismissed, uncomfortable, and extremely disappointed. I saved up for weeks for this and now I wish I hadn't. read more
