3.5 Stars Absolutely…read morelovely and chock-full of country charm, but still with modern conveniences. One thing I've noticed with European hotels, air conditioning does not come standard. However, that doesn't really diminish the hotel experience because the air is already cool and with open windows (no bugs!), A/C is not necessary. The bedroom was fairly large. Though the single beds were pushed together, they came with single-sized comforters. The room also contained two bedside tables, a writing desk and chair, a sofa, and a closet. The bathroom was good-sized too, however the shower was pretty narrow. I don't imagine it would be very accommodating to guests with Reubenesque figures. The wifi is not consistent throughout the hotel. It can only be accessed in the dining room (though barely) and lobby. There's also a playroom for younger kids and a beautiful garden outside. A smaller mountain trail that leads to a nearby local village can also be found in the back. Breakfast is available from 7am and consists of a wide array of breads, deli meats, sausages, cheese, patê, eggs, cereal, juices, and fresh fruits. Overall, a very good variety of breakfast foods; and very well-rounded. Staff is friendly. The owner works the reception is extremely accommodating. He also lives on-site. Though, don't try to contact him after 11pm -- he, understandably, gets grumpy cos he has to wake up at 6am every morning to work. Pro-Tip: If you go out and return late at night, the night entrance is on the right-hand side entrance. It'll lead straight to the kids' playroom. There's a sign, but it's not too prominently displayed and it's in German.

Well, first off, this hotel is beautiful and efficient. I'm on a group tour of Europe, and we are…read morestaying in this hotel a week before it's even open! The staff are very kind and nice, and I quite enjoy this place of all the other hotels we've stayed in the past week (quite a few hotels by the way, a good 6) and this is the only one that has decent sized rooms. It's comfy, and the restaurant is awesome! Delicious food. I honestly love this place, and wish I could stay longer!

We booked this place through Gate 1 travel, and really should have done more research. It's very…read moreunderwhelming from the minute you pull into the car park. Old facade, bad parking situation, and it's in the middle of nowhere. It totes view of the vineyards, which it does not have, but it really should just say it's in the farmland area of Hirschberg, which is a very small village. So, gripe #1 is that they advertise free WiFi, but in reality, the WiFi is so bad that you can't access the internet, email, apps, really anything. So when I complain to the front desk their resolution was for me to upgrade all of our devises to their "premium" WiFi. So just a bait and switch thing. We are from the US, so WiFi was important in communicating with family back home. Gripe #2 - They have no deadbolt on the room doors!!! So, anyone who gets their hands on a room key card can get in your room. You have to remember, you're in a foreign country, and at a fairly shady hotel establishment, so safety is kind of important. We had to wedge the desk chair under the door handle to secure it at night. Really shady and not a good experience. Gripe #3 - When we booked, Gate 1 says that parking is included. When we show up to check in, they say it's 4 euro per night for parking. Not a huge cost, but just another example of the nickel and dime operation they run. Gripe #4 - The "on site" restaurant leaves A LOT to be desired. Very small menu of mediocre food. Then one night when we got back late to the hotel around 8:30 pm, we tried to get dinner on site, and they say they only have a "limited menu" that night. She gives us a menu that had 4 options. One was a caesar salad, one was Ben & Jerry's ice cream, and another was a bread and cheese plate. So we had to go back out to find somewhere to eat, and did I mention that this place is in the middle of nowhere??? Gripe #5 - The place is in dire need of updating. The maroon carpet that they brag about on the website looks like it's 20 years old. Full of stains and wear marks all over the place. Didn't even want to walk in my room without socks on. Halls are very dingy and gross. I really felt more like I was staying in a hotel in eastern europe where we were going to be abducted at night. Gripe #6 - No air conditioning. Seriously, in August it's in the high 80's. Laying in a bed sweating your butt off with with windows open sucks. It's 2017. Instal AC. To sum up, do yourself a HUGE favor and book somewhere else. If you're having second thoughts, re-read "gripe #2" above.

We…read moredecided to stay at the Goldener Pflug based upon other reviews I had read about the hotels in the Weinheim area. I specifically was looking for a nice hotel with the traditional feel of a German Gasthaus or B&B. I would say we found that in the Goldener Pflug. The room we had was darling. Albeit dated furniture everything was clean, no dust, webs, dusts-bunnies etc. The room was nice, plenty of closet space, the bathroom was down a level but it was our private bath. Upon entering the property, you walk through a beautiful room filled with traditional décor with flowers, carved wood and a large Kachelsofen in the room. We only stayed one night to attend the wedding and reception and then we were off the next morning to visit family in the Odenwald area. We ended up sleeping way too late and missed breakfast. We had not slept for 26 hours and eventually when we did retire for the evening, I set the alarm on my iPad but had forgotten to synchronize the clock with the local time and my iPad was still on MST. We ended up sleeping past breakfast and up until 11 am, which was our checkout time. I woke up abruptly then woke my mother. I dressed & ran out of the room to apologize for over sleeping & any inconvenience we may have caused the owners. The owner seemed less than amused and clearly showed his displeasure and was curt. I guess I forgot how lacking in understanding Germans could sometimes be, albeit I am not perfect I do try to do paradigm shifts when it comes to the misfortune of other instead of being judgmental but not everyone so understanding. This would not keep me from staying at this hotel again however; I would make a greater effort not break etiquette in the future.
