Poor service all around for laying down sprinkler and sod. Definitely would not recommend to anyone. He just wants to get grass in but doesn't care if the lawn actually works and lasts.
My mother found Steve as one of our neighbors was using him for their lawn care. At the time he had a single 1-star review on yelp, but my mother decided to give him a shot anyways as he seemed like a nice guy. Wish we decided otherwise. In speaking with the neighbor who we found him working on, he said he would not recommend him either.
Here's the reasons:
He was rarely there. His helpers were there who generally could not answer any of our questions.
His helpers were often times late or did not show on schedule.
When he was there, he was generally very rude to his helpers. This was true both in person and on the phone. We should've known what kind of person we were dealing with.
When installing the sprinklers in the backyard, he told us, after signing the contract, that he does not climb under homes to run the cabling needed to the backyard from the timer. As that is basically the way to run the cables, my father, being the kind, non-confrontational man he is, ran the cables for him.
While installing the sprinklers, the plumbing had a couple leaks here and there, which generally seems like shoddy plumbing work to me. My mother has texted him server all times to fix one last leak, but he is non-responsive.
When he finished his work, he left a tank of gas or whatever on our lawn. My mother has texted him several times as we don't like to see trash/equipment left on our property when the project is done. He has not been responsive in picking it up. We finally disposed of it ourselves. As it was gasoline, we had to go out of our way as we couldn't just throw it away.
When he wrapped up, he did not set the sprinker timer, nor did he have any recommendations on what to set them to. This was a clear indicator to me that he thought his job ended before the grass was in the ground.
I asked his opinion on killing the lawn (weed seeds and all) before actually laying down the sod. This was because other places as well as the internet said you may want to do this so that weeds don't grow through your nice new lawn. Well, i should have listened to the internet, because weeds are all over the place again.
He was WAY overpriced. We had a Gardner - who i wish we just used in the first place - come by and tell me he could've done this job for several THOUSAND less.
Now, all would be fine is the lawn was actually green. But today, lawn is full of weeds and has dead patches again. See my after picture. So, moral of the story, pick Steve if you want to pay a lot, to do some of the work yourself, and for shoddiness on the work he does.
Steve - if you'd like to come clean up your work, I'd be happy to create a happy ending to this review. But since you don't answer my mother's calls, we have no way of letting you know we are not satisfied at all. read more
