    Sewing Machines
    Michael C.

This place is a blast from the past! You walk in and are seeing a ton of different brands of vacuums ready for you to try. Matt does the selling of the vacs and the sewing machines. He also does the repairs if you need help. When you go into the other room, it's full of sewing stuff! There are machines, fabric, needles...all the things :) I was originally asking about the Babylock Flourish 2 and Matt pulled it out of the box and set it up for me to try, lol. That was a little unexpected. Susie runs the sewing side and she explained everything the machine does and did some test embroidery. The vibe here is really cool and the people are really nice. Susie has private sewing lessons and a monthly calendar with group classes. There's one called the UFO class -- UnFinished Objects :) Very cool place.

Al & sue are great. I purchased my baby lock spirit from them and was very happy. It was used but he gave me a 3 year service on it an was missing parts but Al told me no worries he ordered the parts an showed me how to use the machine. Sue sat with me and helped me embroider a few things so I felt. Comfortable before I left with machine am headed home. I came back out over the weekend and sue taught me how to make a pouch out of the hoop. Such a nice couple. Glad I found this place an I drove 1 1/2 hours to get here.

The cinnamon is lovely to use at Christmas time. I sprinkle it in the bottom of my cat litter boxes, too.

Ask the Community - Al's Vacuum & Sewing

Do you guys do repairs on brother sergers?

Yes we do, estimates are free. Our hours are Tuesday - Friday 9am - 5:30pm and Saturday 9am - 4pm, we are closed Sunday & Monday. Hope you have a great day!

Do you work on battery run vacuums like the dyson and shark?

We can work on Dyson, but it is a 50/50 chance of being able to fix one. Shark does not release parts to independent vacuum dealers, so we can not replace the battery or any other parts. We can service them/clean them up if they are running. But… Read more

Ms. Antoinette is a wonderful teacher. She is kind, encouraging, and really brings out each child's artistic side. She helps the kids feel confident and proud of their work. One of the best parts is the friendly poodles. If the dogs are around, they're super sweet and the kids love them. It adds a warm and playful touch to the whole experience. We also like that they allow food and drinks inside. It makes the space feel relaxed and comfortable, like a second home where kids can create freely. Overall, ARTuity is a fun and inspiring place where kids can express themselves through art. We highly recommend it.

See below: I had called ahead for the details and was offered a free trial class for my kid. We were greeted at the door by two large dogs that licked and sniffed us without restraint. While in the class area I had to get some space from the dogs so I moved to the front waiting area, but unfortunately it was already occupied by a bag of really stinky trash in the middle of the floor. It was that or sit next to a dozen 4 foot long burned out fluorescent light tubes propped up against a wall that I was afraid I'd elbow over. One of the older students was using oil paints and solvents without any ventilation and that's not a great thing for anyone in the room. In general, the studio didn't seem very clean or safe. The instruction was of a very limited scope and sporadic. Despite the small class my kid was waiting a lot for permission to move on. New children were given a line drawing to copy it then color it in with pastels. I gather after some conversation with the teacher that a lot of the work here is this kind of highly restrictive copy-work. We fell for the course description on the web site that mentioned "drawing what you see" but actual instruction lacked any emphasis on real observation. Traditional techniques of drawing from a still life or seated figure were not present. It was, admittedly, a big disappointment to see so much emphasis on 2D copying. It was also awkward to hear the teacher command work as though the kids were workers on a production line by assigning them specific content to copy and specific color schemes. The teacher drew on top of nearly all student class work; it was difficult to witness her making such improvements. My kid flipped out a bit when the teacher invaded her sunset with a pastel but it didn't stop the teacher from inflicting further assertions, encouraging formulaic methods in total disregard to the big cues of discomfort my kid kept expressing over the restrictively narrow class expectations. It was a long hour and a half that we somehow managed to get through (and another hour or so to bang out this review) but for those who have little creatives in need of an art class be warned that this is not a very open or supportive environment. It felt like an authoritarian task factory. I wish I'd known it was going to be like this; we would have stayed home and watched Bob Ross--at least his little trees are happy.

It has a generic institutional look so typical since the last fourth of the 20th century.  So much clear glass must trap huge amounts of heat from rays of the intense summer sun which must mean much pollution creatIng energy has to be expended to cool its interior. Not exactly a building meeting zero emission standards in the new age of global warming.  January - April 2022: Exhibition of Works by Marc Steven Greenfield is a must-see. It addresses in a very deft way racism as witnessed and experienced by a Black Man in America in a new, sophisticated, novel light. He raises questions about race, equality, inequality, retribution, and possible reconciliation. His mastery in many different styles proves that he is a meister artist capable of manipulating the media into thought provoking questions often done by confronting and "owning" negative, insulting stereotypes of Blacks on canvas.   In another method, he places Blacks in the style of Catholic icons of the Virgin & Baby Jesus and the Pietà where Virgin Mary cradles the dead Jesus. In the background there are scenes of racist Nazi's receiving just retribution for their horrendous acts against humanity.  There is even an iconic portrait of Yasukè (yah soo keh), who was a Sub-Saharan Black African, who served as a high ranking Samurai in 16th century Japan during the Warring States period, in high Japanese military regalia.    Marc Steven Greenfield is well informed about history, culture, religion, politics, race and synthesizes a powerful brew that if we drink it, it gives us food for thought....Why are we so hung up on the color of our skin?  It's another indictment that we humans are the strangest of all animals.  Be sure to see Mr. Greenfield's interview in the small side projection room. The second floor is dedicated to "What would you say?",  Activist Graphics from LACMA: It's a melange of graphics by various artists depicting Disco Singer Sylvester as Gay or even alluding at a Trans Woman. Black Man in white Ku Klux Klan dress is tongue in cheek, sarcastic humour ridiculing white supremacy.  Series of repeating prints of a woman with the title of "I will not be Assimilated." as though she is threatened by the Borg which, in fact, is our own conformist society.  Esoteric reference to Royal Crown Hair Dressing and showing a woman wearing a dress decorated with a woman showing a big butt seems humourous in line with rap songs idolizing ample derrière.  Another great thing about MOAH is that it's free. You only need to give out your resident zip code. Great way to spend an afternoon creating new, cerebral, synaptic connections.  There are two other associated museums nearby:  Western Hotel Museum and Cedar Center for the Arts Museum. Times and dates vary so be sure to call.
