Although it was hopeless by the time he saw it and he was unable to do a special dance and hand wave to magically make the limbs sprout out again, I still do appreciate his willingness to listen and to show empathy about my situation, the circumstances behind it and what a big deal that this was to me. He treated me respectfully and it was obvious that he sincerely understood my feelings on the matter. Unlike my prior experience with the other person, he didn't cop a dismissive, know-it-all, can't-be-bothered attitude like I was some over reactive curmudgeon with nothing better to do than to whine about his precious little aspen tree.
