There is little communication between the administration and parents, which is frustrating when changes are taking place (e.g. teachers moving classrooms, upcoming closures), or there are events that parents could participate in (e.g. bake sales).

We have been allowed to access the videos that show what's happening during the day. Believe me, we didn't wait the end of the day to remove our Kid from this place and never bring it anymore. They were brusque with him and the other kids. We've seen one of the girls forcing him to release his bunny because they said: "he can't have it when he eats". They have a very particular way to get the kids to sleep, they just show no love, no emotions, put them on the bed and swing them strongly until they fall asleep. We assisted to a fire alarm exercise and that was just worrying. People seem to be annoyed when I left him and I had to wait until they agree who is going to take him from my arms. You definitely don't want your kid stay in those hands.

Our daughter is excited to go there in the morning and, in the evening, she's had a full and adventurous day. Gloria's great about teaching about sharing and has even started potty training (our daughter is 18 months). The space is completely child oriented, full of stimulating toys and has a cozy sleeping area and kitchen down stairs. My understanding is that it has has been regularly inspected by the ministry and is up to code and that the primary reason why it is not licensed is there is no outdoor play area, which is simply not possible in their current location. However almost every day Gloria takes the kids to various parks, the library, and drop in centers in the neighborhood and regularly takes further excursions including the Riverdale Farm, science center, and strawberry picking. On these outings, Gloria's often meets up with the other Play 'n Stay located near Broadview and Gerrard, which is also owned by Gloria and Sultan and run by Gina. Since we've been there, Gloria has had 5 kids ranging from 9 months to 3 years. This has been a good age-mix for our daughter as it's like a big family where the bigger kids stimulate and interact with the younger ones. Gloria regularly does circle time with singing, activities, and art. She gives them nutritious hot breakfast and lunch and plenty of snacks with fruits and veggies. In the evenings she gives us an update on the naps, bowel movements, and eating and generally how they has gone. When we're concerned about our daughter--if she's feeling under the weather or otherwise--we can text and get prompt responses through out the day. We feel close with the families of the Play 'n Stay, and we feel fortunate to be part of this tight community. We regularly meet them at the parks and farmers markets in the evenings or on the weekends and we communicate over email about important issues relating to raising our kids. It's hard to describe how reassuring it is to know how much love and care Gloria has for our our daughter and the rest of the kids at Play 'n Stay. She and Sultan work incredibly hard to provide a truly wonderful environment and big extended family for our daughter.

Gloria has been an attentive and loving care provider - she is lime a second mother to him and he absolutely loves his time there (I know this because he asks to go on weekends if we pass by). The 20+ years experience really show. Her play based activities encourage the kids to interact with each other while being given lots of learning and cognitive development time too. They mix in lots of arts and crafts, circle time, outdoor activities and even field trips that are done in conjunction with a local Parent Resources drop in centre (Riverdale Farm, strawberry picking, Centre Island, etc). Weather permitting the kids are out every day. The food is nutritious and adventurous too. It is without question that I would recommend Play 'n Stay to any prospective parents looking for quality home-based care. Big and spacious classrooms, outdoor playground next to a park, friendly, professional and caring staffs, access to the library and gym in the adjacent elementary school, and enriching programs! Speaking about programs, I was so amazed that they took on the trouble to take all the kids to learn Ice Skating! Think about all the work related: getting all the kids dressed, get them on the bus, laced up their skates and into the arena! I was deeply impressed by then director Janice's enthusiastic reply "yeah, it was a lot of work for us, but the kids love it and they had lots of fun!". And there's many other field trips and special events from guest visits throughout the year. The staffs deserve a special thumb up as well. They make sure the kids stay healthy, live active and learn interesting things. I also enjoy the free parenting education sessions they host once in a while. The only reason I withdrew my child from Ashton Medows was we moved to another province. And I had not found any better day care than them. Highly recommended.

The transition took some time for him, but the staff was incredibly loving and supportive of our little guy while he adjusted. Our 5 year old loves it, and has bonded with several teachers she sees every day. Both of our kids talk about their teachers at home, and share interesting stories about what they are learning and conversations they have had. ON the logistics front: We are able to drop both kids in the morning, and the teachers walk the JK and SK kids to nearby schools. Several of the teachers have been here more than 10 years, including the wonderful director, Jola. The day care has a huge gym space and a lovely outdoor play area. Also, they have a commitment to high quality food, and Real Food for Real Kids provides lunches. MDDC is an absolute gem. I highly recommend the program!

Sing and Sign (baby sign language with songs) - Highly recommended but space is limited so you must call on the first day of registration (hopefully you've signed up your baby at the centre before that). This program helps if your baby doesn't speak yet but it's amazing when they can learn to sign and communicate with you. Course, signing doesn't come right away. It may take a couple months. But my kid learned to sign for water which makes our life semi easier sometimes. Carolina was very informative and kind. Mother Goose (omg I went from knowing 1 nursery rhyme to more than 30. At the end of the program there's a print out of all the songs we learned. The babies love the songs and rhymes. Teresa led the program and my kid loves her. She's so warm and smily.
