There's snacks and drinks all over the place, all high quality, and one of he few places in Belgium where there is actually fruit served regularly... Overall good value!

It it reasonably priced with a very friendly staff. When you enter this hotel it feels like you are entering a high end club lounge (club music is always playing). It has a very laid back cool young energy vibe......although during the week they are bus loads of retirees visiting for a couple days. Their food is just as good as going to a restaurant downtown (well actually the steak and breakfast buffet was). It is a hip downtown spot so you will see people enjoying the lounge atmosphere but are probably not staying at the hotel. It sort of reminds me of a more reasonable version of the W. Then they charged me a no show fee cause I checked in late. Uhh, wow. The Internet was down again during my first night. I couldn't get my room cool enough at night and had to open my window. It was trade-off of sleeping in a cool room, but also smelling the occasional cigarette and hearing pedestrians. An employee let himself into my room one evening. He just swiped his badge, opened the door and started waking in. I told him to get the F out. " Oh I'm sorry, my mistake" Wow again. Why the heck was he entering if he wasn't sure if the room was occupied?! Knock, moron. He offered me a complimentary drink for the inconvenience of him walking in on me. No thanks. I'd simply rather have privacy. I'll never stay here again.

Solid hotel with great food…read more Check-in: Can be a little slow. If there is a line, performance and efficiency are not top priorities. Get ready for a wait. But the staff is friendly at the front desk if somewhat limited. Limited you say? Let me give you an example. I needed to shorten my stay by a day. I let the front desk know, in person, of my change. The response: "We can't". When pressed, she said it was because I'd need to change it in the reservation system I used to book. Seeing as I didn't pre-pay, this didn't make sense. Additionally as I was 9 days into my 14 day stay, the site I used to book couldn't do anything. When pressed she "talked" to her manager and 2 seconds later I was all set. Keep in mind, I was making a change 4 days early, not the day before or day of my needed departure. Rooms: This is the tale of two rooms! If you get a room from the original hotel, well, it's not up to standard (think Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton). Its more at the motel level. And, IMPORTANT, the older rooms are not air conditioned. There are often twin sized beds in here. If you get a room in the "newer" side (comfort rooms I think they are referred to), then you're all set. Mini-bar, A/C, king beds, good bathrooms. Its well worth a few extra dollars. Gym: Treadmill, old elliptical machine and a odd bowflex like weight area. Hard to find in the basement. Restaurant/Food: This makes the Van Der Valk shine. Some of the best "hotel" food I've had. In fact they seem to be a dinning destination for the surrounding area. Great menu selection, high quality, full bar. Highly recommend. Parking: Gated, but free, parking. Remember when leaving in the AM to get a gate-pass at the front desk. Lot can fill up on occasion. There is overflow parking out the back gate to the left past Accenture. American tip: Service is "slow". It can take a while to get a drink or a re-fill. Think ahead. They are in NO rush at all and are not super attentive. Remember: you don't tip here, so you're stuck with the speed of service you get.
