Alpaca Trekking, Cats and meerkats...and wool to buy (yup, we did)
This was the highlight of our 5 days of touring around Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. I had kept it from my wife as a surprise
First, it was easy to book and organise the session and the detailed directions they send you were a must!!! It is in the middle of nowhere
We were greeted on arrival and the session explained to us...a few people were there to see the cats, to eat the yummy food while another 3 were there to trek as well as us
The lady (sorry forgot her name) explained everything in detail and then led us to the fields to meet our alpacas...she explained their names, habits, what they liked (the food, grass, stopping to eat...), being stroked on the neck or didn't like (don't touch their heads - probably rurins their hairdo!), that we would lead them around and stop at some predetermined spots that they are used to, and where you hand out their food - they don't bite! - they just lick the food from your hand...no need to be scared, even youngsters wouldn't be afraid...and they are so soft and woolly...but strong; you do have to hold on to the rope and make sure they behave ie walk and stop eating grass!
Mine was Bilbo (very aloof), my wife's Frodo (needy for Bilbo), and there was Marshall (probably cheeky) and last but not least a different breed..shaggy Kevin (Kev was noted for his ability to roll in the dust)...and he did...the others didn't seem to want to do that nor roll in the long grass...which they also like to do
Funniest moment of all, going past the other alpacas in the fields, stopping as they ran over to see who was coming...and some, of course, proceeded to spit at one another
Too soon it was all over and then you can feed them the rest of the bag if you want to
After we left them, we had tea and super scones and clotted cream...we all, before and after, just watched the scenery, the rabbits chasing one another, the sheep (being shown this week!) ...it was a wonderful experience...an absolute must
Thanks to all who looked after us and made our day
