I also tried nussecken (2.20 euro) for the first time for dessert and it was delicious! It's nutty and chocolatey with a soft crust. My friend who lives in Berlin got 4 peaches and a cucumber for 1.50 euro and a meter of fabric for 2 euro. She comes here every week for groceries. The prices are fantastic here!

It's no secret that I love me a good Farmer's Market. This one is no exception…read more There are tons and tons of things to buy; my favourite is the produce stands. Compared to local shops, the fresh fruits and vegetables are much cheaper, and sometimes even better quality. A recent trip yielded avocados, pumpkin, and arugula, and that was a show of restraint. There's so much more to be had, including meats and cheeses, snacks from food stands, practical household items, fabrics and craft-y things, clothing and jewelry, and more. Check it! The one disadvantage is the tight quarters. I'm used to markets with rows and rows and plenty of space, and this one is just along the sidewalk. The side up against the water is particularly crowded, with stalls on either side, making it a bit of an annoyance to walk through all the people. The flow of the crowd is generally smooth, albeit slow-going, but every once in awhile you'll find the stallers, who stand directly in front of what you're interested in and spend five minutes discussing the pros and cons of buying it. If you know what you want to get, this is a perfect place to go. However, if you're looking for a leisurely experience spent strolling up and down the market, go somewhere else.

Don't get me wrong... I love having stores like Veganz in Berlin, but sometimes you just want more…read morevariety in places you can shop an support, particularly if you don't live in the immediate vicinity of a place. So when I found out Dr. Pogo opened, I was thrilled. The Neukölln and Kreuzberg crowd don't have to travel too far to reach this place, and it's a collective, which is a good thing and worth supporting. We ended up visiting three weeks after the opening, so it's still relatively new and has the accompanying problems with streamlining the process, such as those working figuring out the computer system, etc., but nothing to complain about. The selection is good - it's smaller than Veganz and has not as many items, but there are still more vegan options than any given bio store... and the cheese selection is relatively impressive as well. Prices here are hit and miss. While I would not likely pay €8 for a small thing of vegan ice cream, the cheeses, cream cheese, etc., are moderately priced, and in some cases, less expensive than the Bio Company. There is also a bakery section with goods from Maja's Deli (who also offer catering) and one entire section is for things like cosmetics and other beauty products. All in all, I am pretty stoked on this place. Living in Berlin has taught me to either forego or make on my own many of the products I was used to in the states (products which are either not available here or too expensive for my tastes), but I will still come here for the occasional treat or when I really crave vegan cheese. Welcome to the neighborhood, Dr. Pogo! Here is hoping you stick around!

The shop is cute, and the idea of a collective vegan laden is refreshing. However, the people who…read morework there are rude and unfriendly. I live in the neighbourhood and was compelled to buy some things at dr. pogo several times a week. Never have the people working there been friendly. My boyfriend has the same impression. We decided to stop shopping there, and instead buy our things at Bioase44 around the corner. I'm also not for the whole attitude where everyone who's not a vegan is an awful or stupid person, so better for us to shop at a more welcoming place.

Woah. What was most bothersome was that she spoke to the cashier in the most belittling way...Kiez Vegan has fresh, quick and delicious food for sure, but it made my friend and I so uncomfortable and sorry to see a cashier treated that way and to be regarded similarly. Not cool...

The bottom line: the prices are low, but the food is pretty boring and dry. I had the potato (where?) and spinach Borek. The filling was OK, but very salty and lacked creativity in the choice of spices. The dough was heavy, dense and dry - more like bread than any borek I've ever had. I expected filo dough, but that might be specific to Greek borek. It was quite heavy and my biggest compliment is that it is very filling - especially considering the €3 price tag. If you need to pick up something vegan quickly on your way somewhere - this is a good option. Otherwise, I would recommend finding somewhere else to go - even at the cost of a higher cost.
