I had a bad experience in my visit here last month with the veterinarian by the name of Dr. Brianna Hacia, I believe was her name. She displayed poor bedside manner, was reluctant to answer my questions about my cat's health and treatment, and answered my questions begrudgingly and condescendingly.
I went in for an exam and vaccines, and mentioned that my cat had been peeing outside of the litterbox recently (a behavior outside of the norm). She said a urinalysis needed to be done and said that it could be a number of things (listed off 3-4 possible conditions) and then stated "worst case scenario, she could die".... which is very inappropriate to say.
She rushed through a list of treatments, pushing a flea treatment because of the promotion they're doing, saying that the total would be $800+ if I got everything. When I asked to see the screen, she sarcastically responded "nooooo" with a deadpan face. (I mean, what were all of those things you listed anyways? They're mostly acronyms and medical jargon, so excuse me for not knowing it by heart. I also shared that it was my first time taking my cat to the vet!)
From any medical professional, we should be able to expect to hear their observations, possible diagnoses, prognosis, treatment options, be able to make informed decisions while understanding risk levels, and understand the game plan. "After tests, you can expect x, y, and z. If the results come up x, y, and z, then you can expect x, y, and z." I didn't get that and was left putting pieces together on my own and doing research. Luckily I knew better than to put too much weight to the words "she could die," but it was still unnerving for things to be so ambiguous.
This visit was hostile for no reason. This may be my first time taking my cat to the vet, but I grew up with a dog in the family (for 16 years) and I took her to countless visits across a range of issues, so I know how to navigate vet visits and know what is the best care for my furbabies. I grew to be able to tell which vets to trust and which ones not to. Your pet's care team has a huge impact, since your pet can't speak for themselves, obviously. I had a friend with me at the appointment, and she also thought it was super weird compared to her experiences with her cat at other vets, over the span of 5 years.
I won't be coming back, and I don't have trust in a clinic that would condone this behavior. I caution you to explore elsewhere. read more
