Back in February of last year, my Subaru busted a head gasket. I was able to limp to VIP in…read moreBrunswick, scared and curious as to what was going on with my car. A busted head gasket really is a death wish for Subaru's, Matt the manager called me and let me know how much it was going to cost. I told them to go ahead and do the work, and they started. I spent around $5,000 for them to fix my car. Half way through the fixing process I got a call from one of the workers at VIP saying he needed to put a new "engine block" in my car, and that VIP didn't have those, but he had one on him, and that he would sell that to me for $600. Not knowing what to do, I went ahead and bought the engine block. My car was finally finished, and when I left my low oil light came on, wasn't sure what was going on so I called VIP, and went there for them to take a look. They told me there was no oil leaking. I got home, and to my dismay, there was no oil leaking, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE CAR. I went back to them, and they lifted my car and told me the technician who sold me this "engine block" didn't remove the old filter, and there was a pin hole in it, letting the oil leak out like a faucet. When they fixed it, they told me I could have died. That experience scared me, but I still put my faith in VIP when I had some steering stuff going on, I went there and spoke with Matt, who told me that I needed new steering pump, and I asked him if I could wait until I actually have money to do that, and he said "you'll be stranded on the side of the road somewhere if you wait." So, I waited, and that was 2 years ago. My steering is fine. VIP has made me scared for my life, no business should do that. I also found out that they NEVER PUT MY AC BACK TOGETHER. So, I have no AC anymore, because of their ignorance. I've called the branch in Topsham about 6 times in the last 3 months, asking them if they've gotten the part in, just to be told that they would call me back, and they never call back! Not once! I will never step foot in this place again, and other people shouldn't either. To top it off, when I went to the Topsham branch and told them about the events that took place in the Brunswick one, one of the technicians said my case was a "famous" case, one of the most messed up projects that they've ever had. I've tried to get ahold of the owner, I have just left messages and never hot a return call. EDIT: 03/29/21 VIP in Topsham is awesome, they took care of me and helped me get my AC back, they really stepped up to the plate. Call Topsham VIP for anything!!

Nice folks, but every single time they put my wheels on they use an impact wrench to tighten the…read morelug bolts, and they are nearly impossible to get off. This last time I had to use a 5 foot pipe on a half-inch breaker bar to loosen them--heaven help me if I had to change a tire on the highway. Impact wrenches are for removal, but should never be used for tightening. They really should be torquing them to the proper specs and no more.

Battery service. The fact that they will come to you when you have a dead battery is great. Maybe…read moreyou don't have the ability to jump it or in my case, maybe it doesn't seem to be taking a charge. The bad: it seems that many of their batteries are junk and they make you jump through hoops to replace the crappy battery they give you. I had mine for less than 6 months before bringing my car in for an inspection. The garage checked my battery and found that it was basically trash and even gave me the readout from their tester saying as much. Called AAA for a replacement and while the girl on the phone was nice, she was being very cagey about replacing the battery. After asking her directly a couple times about whether they would replace it, she said very unsurely, "uh, the driver should be able to do that for you". I asked her if the drivers had the power to make that call and she said they could "or would figure something out", which also didn't really make much sense. Driver gets there, gets the car charged up and says that he can't do a diagnostic test on the battery because it's currently too low a charge. While that may be true, if you are calling AAA because your car is dead again, because the battery they provided is shit, guess what... your car is always going to be too dead to read. I showed him the diagnostic test from my garage and he says it has to be from a "AAA approved garage". Google their battery service and you'll find a lot of people that feel equally scammed by this process. If you get a good battery from them, then you're probably all set and they came to you, solving you the hassle of getting jumped and going to get a new battery. If you get a junk AAA battery, which seems to often be the case, it might start convenient but will then be anything but. As for me, while I still have AAA and their crappy battery, I'm going to jump it again, bring it to somewhere with decent batteries, shell out for a whole new one that will hopefully last for more than 6 months. For a company that used to claim to bend over backwards for their members, their battery service can turn into a major hassle and waste of money.
