My experience at Alliant International University has truly been wonderful. I began my MBA program in 2023 and am now preparing to graduate, and throughout this journey I have consistently felt supported by both faculty and staff. What stands out most is how much the faculty genuinely care about student success. I've had the opportunity to learn in a diverse and inclusive environment where instructors are approachable, invested, and committed to helping students grow both academically and professionally. As a working mom of three, the flexible and sustainable program structure made it possible for me to balance school, work, and family life without feeling overwhelmed. That flexibility made a meaningful difference in my ability to stay engaged and succeed. I'm very grateful to Alliant for being such a strong partner in helping me reach my educational goals. Great Gymnasium of about 6 Basketball courts that host the SOL league that my son is a part of. The facility is kept very clean and tidy, well lit and full of lots of space and parking. I regret doing the postgraduate course in school psychology course with Alliant. The course is expediated as compared to tradition university. Some people are able to catch up with ther practical experience, but some are not, due to this model. You have to have a school that desperately needs help from intern and a supervisor who is not hostile, but bad experiences with supervisors are common in internship. Most importantly, the school says that they will help place the student in an internship if they have problem securing one, but the people in charge of teh clinical experience department is either evasive, unreachable or will put you in your place. Fundamentally, similar programs from traditional university of three years will have someone to help place the student, and also call in every week to check in with the site supervisor that they are providing the required support for their students and also that the intern is making teh necessary progress. Thus, it is not up to the whim and fancy of the supervisor,which will cause the progress of the intern in their practical experience, sometimes due to the intern needing more support in an expediated program or if the supervisor have conflict with the intern, and decide to do very little, which is not uncommon. I hope that others who decide to take this course in such expediated program think twice, as my experience has been very stressful where the practical part is concerned. They might say that they will get you placed, but there is no broad system from the management too eally serve the needs for the student. At the emantimes, they will keep register the student for more internship when the student cannot evern get placement. Some students do make it. The whole group of staff from the department treated tha student like a problem, and migth just do superficial stuff such as askign when they need the office hours to be when the student already clearly expressed that tehy need a placement and see a proactive collected effort from the management to want to help the student progress forward and not just collect the fees, and left the student all stressed, helpless, and angry. I will provide teh same to CTC as I suspect I will nto be the only student who have the same problem if the system stays the same. read more

After I graduated from UT Austin, I was given the choice between a tuition free ride in a PhD psychology program at a private university in Texas, or a costly tuition APA accredited PhD program at Alliant; I chose Alliant and I am so glad that I did. I believe that decision literally changed the course of my entire career. Although the Clinical Psychology PhD program at Alliant was quite rigorous, demanding and felt overwhelming at times, I can now say -11 years post matriculation- that I am the CEO of a successful and highly lucrative Neuropsychological Evaluation and Therapeutic Center in Austin, Texas. I am a proud alumnus of Alliant International University San Diego. I graduated with a Masters and Doctorate in Psychology. The clinical, academic, and occupational experiences I gained from the program are invaluable. The school itself does lack some of the activities that bigger, public universities have; however I feel my experiences with the school prepared me for a successful career in my field. To summarize: Pros - Smaller classes, more personal instruction, good selection of practicum, internship, and academic experiences, great professors (or at least I felt all of mine were and some are now friends), peaceful and easy to access campus (not sure if it's moved since 2013), decent research, academic, and work opportunities. Cons - High costs, may not offer as much research opportunities as a larger, well funded academic institution, smaller sports and social programs, smaller housing options, limited alumni engagement. This school has the following majors: Business, Law, Psychology, Forensics & Education. I cannot speak about all of them but I will try to give you a general overview of campus life. First, the students and employees are super friendly. You might encounter the 1% of students, staff or professors who aren't that great (as some reviews mentioned), but aren't there people like that anywhere? There are often different student events with prizes and fun things to do. The classrooms have been redone within the last year so they're modern. Alliant's campus is small, but for me that's a good thing. I previously went to a huge school with 30,000 students for undergrad and I felt like a number and lost in the crowd. Here, people know your name and it's easy to end up knowing all of the students in your program. I've made more friends here in 1 year than I did in 4 years at my other school. There is a lot of diversity here too, I've met people from China, Vietnam, Africa, India, France, etc. The education is great depending on how much work you put into it. Some professors are better than others. Some are wonderful, and then there are those who do not provide their feedback on time and don't teach the way they should. However, the textbooks and assignments are standardized (at least in my program) so no matter what professor you have, you'll be doing the Alliant curriculum and learning though that. Last thing I have to add is that this school is great for working professionals too, since most of the classes are after 6pm. And in the summer, you can take classes online which makes vacationing easy. (But why would you go anywhere else when you are in San Diego ;) haha). read more

Currently an online MFT graduate student and am in love with this program. I was at first apprehensive about attending an online program as I know some are referred to as 'diploma mills', however, the education I've received so far has exceeded by far my experience at my highly regarded SUNY school that I attended for by BS in NYC. The reading and course materials are intense but if you dedicate yourself, dive into the work, and are a self-starter (as you should be if you are in a graduate program) then you will have an incredibly fulfilling experience. This school practices, enforces, and facilitates systemic discrimination. All they want is your money. They do not protect their students from discriminatory practices. They sent me on a student teaching assignment at a school that was off for 3 weeks, and I had to complete my training hours at a deficit. The teacher they assigned me to lied and nothing was done to rectify it. No alternative was offered. The AIU staff didn't communicate with the HS staff and they ignored the complaints I made. I can NOT recommend this school. I'm a veteran (USMC) and a minority. **Update in response to AIU's reply** The HS in question was in their finals week, followed by two weeks of vacation, during my class's first 3 weeks. It had nothing to do with the pandemic. To AIU: Investigate the teacher at El Capitan HS who lied and begin with the evidence that I provided. Your SERC committee should have no problem locating it, as they should have submitted it to the proper authority. Among other lies told by Mr. Schroeder, he claimed that I didn't attend the first day of class. I sent your staff a screenshot of a conversation between Schroeder and myself that demonstrated I was outside the classroom ahead of him on the first day, and waited for him to arrive. Do NOT go to this school unless you absolutely have to. Why? I ended up attending Alliant for a year because it was so impossible to get into schools in Southern California. UCSD, USD, & SDSU were all completely full and had waitlists for majors (some of them years long). So, as a psychology major, I heard about Alliant and decided to join their psychology program. Big mistake. First of all, if you plan on going to grad school at anywhere other than Alliant, do NOT go here. Other institutions do not respect this school whatsoever, and the likelihood of an Alliant graduate getting into grad school at any reputable location is close to none. I am so lucky that I found this out before wasting all of my undergraduate education at this hole. Second, the program is a mess. Classes are way longer than they should be (4 hours and 45 minutes per class- which is not the case for once a week classes anywhere else in California), and miserable in old, dusty, and moldy rooms (oh, and did I mention that the campus is completely run down?). The director of the program is unbelievably egotistical and will be of no help to you at all throughout your education. She can, and has, made many student's lives a living hell while attending this program. Most classwork is not taken seriously, will change at random, and some teachers don't even show up to class (this happened to me several times in my year here). You also have teachers that come and go who, you find out later, aren't even teachers at all! YES. This actually happens here. Oh, and to top it off.... It is insanely overpriced for what it is. Over $20k per year. I paid 1/3 of this to attend a community college that put this place to absolute shame. The one star is only for some of the great teachers that I had here. Blumberg, Savarese, Farrow, and a few others were great and stood out in the midst of a total mess. At the end of the day, and after having attended LMU after finally escaping this place, I cannot emphasize this enough: go to community college and work your way to a better school. I completed my teaching credentials through Alliant and had a very positive experience with everyone I encountered while a student there. Classes met once per week and were taught by professionals in the field of Education. Professor Yasmin Dunn, Program Coordinator Lisa Mauricio, and Field Supervisor Dr. Karen Glasgow, were all accommodating and understood the needs of a working adult trying to finish his teaching credential while teaching full time. I experienced no issues and was always able to communicate with everyone in the offices, and with my other professors. I appreciate all the work they did to get me through. I thank Doctors Beauchamp, Malupa-Kim, Palley, Reeves-Gutierrez, Chupina, and Kaplan for all their support and professionalism. In the credentialing office, the help and support from Lisa Delmar-Edmonds was invaluable. She made the entire credentialing process so easy and headache free for me. I enjoyed the Alliant model and had an outstanding and positive experience. When it was time to complete my Master's Degree, I decided on Alliant. Alliant International University was such a blessing and a positive change from the awful experience I had dealt with while I was a student at National University. Sister had a basketball tournament here and this place is great . They have good snack bars... pricey... like 3.75 for a slice of cafeteria pizza but it saves your life when you ate hungry. This school is horrible. I am in the single subject teaching credential. The teachers are not on the same page and it shows. I am getting an A in one class and am failing the other. We do the exact same assignments in both. The expect a ton of work out of you for only 1.5 credits. The teachers provide no support, you don't use the books they make you purchase, and their communication skills are horrible. If you'd like to write eight 12 page lesson plans every month then go ahead and sign up. You will receive no clarification on how to do the assignment and each teacher will have a different grading standard. If you reach out for help or to ask a question they will just forward your email or you'll never hear back. It's an overwhelming and mentally challenging program. I was just dismissed from Alliant's Clinical Psych PhD program, for having four less than credit grades; C, two C+'s, and a D+. Having this many less than credit grades and continuing on in the program is not uncommon. Supposedly there is someone in the program with 18 C's, that's right 18. A friend of mine who had 5 C's and a D is still there. One of my C's should have been a B but a professor screwed me over. I made up the D and when I was dismissed had a GPA well above 3.00. All of my less than credit grades were in the quantitative portion of the curriculum which I struggle with because of dyslexia. I appealed the BS C I received and lost the appeal (this professor told me verbally I had a solid B). I wrote a 22 page dismissal appeal claiming, I believe proving, bias and lost that appeal as well. Now I have 68 units and no Master's degree and a $100,000 grand in debt. While in the appeals process I was strongly urged to get an attorney because the person speaking to me was in a position to know I was being screwed over. During the appeals process I didn't hang my head in shame, I let just about everyone know I was on dismissal status. I let them know because I was good enough to be there and had worked my butt off. Not only that I was better suited, in terms of temperament and aptitude, than some students who are still there and have great GPA's. Being a competent psychologist is much more than grades but they don't appear to care about that. What they care about is that students fit the Alliant mold, diversity my butt. I was informed by a faculty member that I wasn't liked by some faculty and was being pushed out of the program because I didn't fit the Alliant mold. The University used my weakness to harm me by dismissing me when the next step was transitioning into the dissertation process. Because I was so vocal about being on dismissal status I discovered that several other students in the PhD program were going through the same thing. I met with some of those students and all are joining me in a class action lawsuit against the University. The reason that Alliant is pulling this kind of crap is because, to my knowledge, no one has stood up to them. I believe my age had a lot to do with my dismissal as well, I feel I was discriminated against on the basis of age. I am well into midlife; I'm not a young adult anymore, thus I brought a lot to the table in terms of life experience. This quality was not appreciated, instead it was viewed as an obstacle to cramming me into the Alliant mold. I have heard that some PsyD students have experienced the same things I have discussed; you may also join us in our class action. Finally diversity is having those from differing backgrounds bring their unique experience of life to the table. It's not cramming someone into a specific mold, professional development is about integrating who you are into a new career and its associated demands. If you are different I don't recommend Alliant. A common thread among all of us involved in this suit is that we are unique. Unique people who struggle at the San Diego campus seem to be pushed out of the program or as the PhD faculty member precisely stated "guided out of the program". Guided out with no thought to the repercussions to each student who is discharged. I'm not saying there aren't situations in which someone should be discharged but that should be the extraordinarily rare exception. If you are accepted into the school it is implied that you belong there and a process of mentorship begins. Getting a PhD is not easy and virtually no one believes that it is. As far as I am concerned Alliant is a petty political environment; a culture of inflated egos. That notwithstanding, there are some great professors their; good human beings that care about their students. Unfortunately they are outnumbered by their lesser counterparts. read more

this school SUCKS! the program I'm in (School Psych at HSOE) is an absolute joke... Not to mention our advisor fell off the planet in January and has not been heard of since...we met with the dean and were basically told "we'll see what we can do".. which means nothing! Also, financial aid and student business services are both FULL of unprofessional, rude and incompetent people! They either give you the run around, can't help you or give you misinformation and then make you pay the consequences! I was disenrolled - two weeks shy of the final program exam - because I had no way to pay them $2900 (or even a 3rd of it) .. When they said in the first place that I could defer that fee to fall of my internship year... Only to find out that the policy had changed... Their email and Moodle systems are always down ... it takes days to get answers from anyone and half the time the faculty doesn't know what's going on anyway... this is a sad excuse for a university... My program can't even get national accreditation because our advisor does such a crappy job... I will NOT recommend this university to ANYONE and I will post this on every media outlet I can... you SUCK Alliant! read more

If you want to learn and do not need someone to hold your hand, this is a great school. It requiresnto much independance for some. The class sizes are small and it gives you great access to proffs. DO NOT live on campus. It will be the worst experience of your life. Their is a mean nasty old lady who runs the housing department and they will take your money and give nothing in return. The internet sucks and the IT department will block most sites and control the amount of internet you use. The IT department at this school is outdated and overprotective. How many graduate professors have you watch black & white videos all semester, then arbitrarily hand out grades without any papers or objective tests? The administration is terrible...beyond terrible. No advance warnings about deadlines but they might tell you after the fact that you were supposed to know you needed to do A & B before signing up for classes or choosing an internship site. I have recently been given the run-around for 3 weeks while I tried ordering my transcripts to sit for an exam! To me, that's unacceptable. Overall, my experience at Alliant in San Diego has been a positive one. I'm finishing my MA in TESOL this month. The faculty is great, and very helpful. I enjoyed working with and learning from all of them. The cost is comparable to similar programs at private universities. One area for improvement: most of the campus buildings have quite a bit of deferred maintenance. Some of the buildings may need to be torn down completely. Would I go there again? My experience with Alliant was extremely bad. Apart from a few great professors the University is in chaos for a long time. For many years they have been close from bankruptcy, which led them to become a for profit university recently. The facility is old, the air conditioners and elevators are constantly broken, and most of the good professors left the school or are close to retirement, and the new professors have been running amok in the school. Several students have been harassed by a few professors, and some have been pushed out of school and forced to start over in a new program. The school is very expensive for what they offer. I have nit felt supported by the school neither have many of students I know. I regret going to Alliant, and if I knew when I applied there what I know now, I would have chosen another school who has more respect for the students who leave the school with over 250K in student loans. The infrastructure was adequately in place for me to excel and graduate. There are pros and cons with every situation, but for me, the pros outweighed the cons. I worked with excellent professors, had the opportunity to explore different internships that gave me great experience, and I finished in my Doctoral program on time. My boyfriend & his pals love it at the SolCity SportCenter.. I suppose. It's definitely huge, but the downside of it is that it's freezing cold at night, so if you're not there to get active, make sure you wear something warm. The lighting is somewhat okay, but the benches to watch basketball games are convenient & easy to watch from. I noticed that the bathrooms have a really grody odor, but maybe because I'm usually there to watch the night basketball leagues. Anyway, great environment overall. read more

I was a PhD student at he Industrial Organizational at the Los Angles Campus in one word the university sucks. I had a GPA of 3.93 and I passed all the required exams and internship though I had to withdraw before graduating because I did not get any help while writing my dissertation, The professors have their favorite students and they help these students and they ignore the other students. The professors act like kings and queens and they do not accept any negative feedback from their students. it was a horrible experience for me. I do not recommend it for anybody . read more

I thought I would respond to Richard's comment on the Clinical PhD program. I don't know Richard personally, so I can't (and wouldn't) comment on why he was dismissed. However, I don't see much about the program itself here, so it seems reasonable to describe it. The PhD program at AIU is unusual in a way that many of us value highly. The professors are chosen from among professionals who are willing to highlight both clinical work and research in their own professional lives. Milton Brown, for instance, teaches Psychopathology and runs a clinic for borderline personality disorder patients, and publishes on BPD and self mutilation. Richard Gevirtz teaches mind/body courses and runs a biofeedback clinic (treating, for instance, anxious kids with stomach aches) and publishes on psychophysiology. Donald Viglione teaches Assessment, runs an assessment center, and publishes on Rorschach evaluation. Alan Lincoln teaches intellectual assessment, runs a center for autism treatment and assessment, and publishes on understanding autism. Thus, we are different from many mainstream universities in that our faculty are not living on grants, for the most part, and are not "pure" researchers. Further, we are different from many of the professional schools, where faculty tend not to publish widely or value the academic side of the discipline. Our students, for the most part, want varied lives that combine clinical and research skills. As Richard states, we do dismiss people who receive multiple C's and D's in academic courses, and although I agree with his general argument that grades are not everything, they do mean something here. The quantitative courses he references are taught in a competency based manner, with multiple methods of assessment (take homes and in class, multiple choice and essay, for example) and plenty of access to tutors and graduate assistants. Would you want to graduate from a place that did not dismiss those who could not meet its standards? That said, the quantitative courses, although difficult, are among the most highly evaluated courses in the curriculum. We hope to graduate people who not only know the most up to date methods of treatment, but also can understand the literature, stand up to cross-examination regarding the validity of a test, and recognize and differentiate science from pseudo-science. If you are in the area, or are going to be, and want to check out the institution, I would suggest that you write the admissions department. It is often possible to sit in on a class, talk to present or former students, see syllabi, and check out ongoing research teams. Yelp reviews might be helpful, but I suggest that you see for yourself. read more

My memory of this institution goes back to the mid-1980's when it was named USIU-United States International University.. It is impossible to say enough nice things about the experience at this fine school. Everybody who went to USIU respected the school and the vast majority of the faculty and the students were satisfied with their their decision to attend. The people are warm, the faculty are very involved and there is a family feel that seemed to be missing at the colleges of the day. The MBA program was traditional and required a lot of work and time. San Diego attracted an experienced faculty from through out the US who had taught at or been educated at the best schools in America.
