I could not have made a better choice. Everyone I saw at the place, from techs, to nurses to all the Dr.s, and I saw them all, were great. I had the utmost confidence when I walked in, whether it was for an exam or a procedure, I knew I was in good hands. After 5 years there, a life event moved me to the center of the state, near Orlando, and sent me searching for new care. I have now, in the past year and a half, seen 2 different Dermatologist in that area, and have not been happy with either. I miss the confidence that I used to have walking out of G.S.C.C. A botched skin graft, and now a scary, described treatment for a cancer on my leg has me calling on G.S.C.C. again. I will gladly drive the 160 mile round trip, if Doc Stoer and the crew will let me back in. Live and learn.

My mom and dad were there and stayed in the hospital room for two weeks. Nurses and doctors taking care of them were very helpful, patient, supportive, and welcoming. Only complaint was the food. The chicken was uneatable, not even my dad would eat (He eats anything hahaha). But yes, the food was decent, just not the chicken. The staff did their best to accommodate to my mom and dad's food selections. Overall, my mom and dad were very pleased with the care provided by their team of doctors and nurses. I said clearly I did not want to come here because of what I had heard about it. I was brought here anyway, and my husband did not even find out where I was until he called Shands and was told I wasn't a patient there. Once I was admitted, I was ignored every time I asked for help. When I pressed the call button, it was consistently ignored, and the one time staff did respond, instead of helping me, I was injected with Haldol against my will and told I was trying to leave. That was not true. I was only trying to find someone to ask why my husband wasn't there yet, since we had been lied to about where I actually was. I never tried to leave the unit. I did not want to be given anything from this hospital in the first place, especially given the sterile equipment problems this facility has publicly dealt with in the past. The food was inedible the entire time I was there. I could not eat it. Based on my own medical records, I weighed just over 163 pounds going in and 158 pounds three days later when I left. I lost over 5 pounds in 3 days simply because I couldn't eat what was provided, and I have the records to prove it.I asked every single day to speak with someone from Patient Advocacy. No one ever came. This was one of the worst experiences of my life, at a moment when I needed real help and safety, not neglect and force. I will be filing formal complaints with state health regulators and the hospital's accrediting body about everything above. I would not recommend this facility to anyone in crisis. I will be reporting my complaints with the appropriate governing bodies.

Peter Sarantos: Botched Surgery and Lies…read more Before the surgery, Peter Sarantos stated the surgery would be easy and I wouldn't have complications. Those were his famous last words. During the surgery Peter Sarantos was not careful and he tore blood vessels during the laparoscopic procedure. After the surgery he made no mention of tearing anything. Instead he told me a lie. He concocted the lie to explain away the two large incisions. The procedure was supposed to be laparoscopic but I have two large incisions. I found out the truth of what really occurred during the surgery by obtaining my medical records. This would explain why Peter Sarantos was so nervous after the surgery. According to the medical records, Peter Sarantos had to make the large incisions to repair the blood vessels he tore during the laparoscopic procedure because the blood vessels were bleeding uncontrollably. That is what actually happened. He deliberately lied to cover up his mistake, but it only created more problems. Shortly after I was discharged, the torn blood vessels ruptured and I suffered an internal hemorrhage. I fell to the ground from the pain and crawled over to the phone and called 911 for an ambulance. I had to have emergency surgery. The ER team at NFRMC saved my life. The hemorrhage filled my pelvic cavity with blood and blocked the blood flow to my right leg and caused a DVT. That too was extremely painful. What was supposed to be outpatient procedure turned into a 9 day hospital stay with 4 days in the ICU and hospital bills totaling $238,000- all because of Peter Sarantos carelessness and lies. Peter Sarantos should be grateful to the emergency room team for saving my life. I would like to see him lie his way out of the death of a perfectly healthy person over a simple hernia surgery.

I was extremely nervous about the surgery and rehab, but he and his staff were excellent. They answered all questions (I had a lot), went through the process thoroughly and were very patient. The surgery went very well, the rehab with their physical therapist went smoothly and recovery was so much better than I expected (still hurt, LOL). Ten months later, I am confident in everything they did. Almost all of the staff were very pleasant, helpful, knowledgeable and great. We only had one negative experience and it was the financial woman (a combination of them filing claims incorrectly and my insurance not wanting to cooperate at first). Aside from her, everyone else was wonderful. Despite that minor negative experience, I would highly recommend TOI and Dr. Touissant if you need orthopedic surgery. There wasn't a lot of reviews before my surgery and I was worried, so I hope this may help bring some confidence for others to make a decision.
