It's run by a couple and was formerly a family home but has been converted by the husband, who was previously a builder, to a really high standard. There are lots of lovely touches throughout the nursery, including a wooden play shop built into one of the rooms. He's now the chef and prepares all the children's meals fresh each day and the food always smells great. My son eats 2 portions most days! There are two rooms. One for the tiny kids - up to about 2 years of age, and another for those of preschool age. Our son has just moved to the 'bigger kids' side and they have managed the progression really well. He is really happy there and has come along leaps and bounds in terms of his confidence and speech since he started attending. Outside there is a lovely garden for the kids to play in, and it also has a covered area so they can still get fresh air when the weather is bad. There is a little vegetable garden that the kids help out on. The staff are brilliant and really make each day special for the kids. They do activities related to what is happening in the 'real world', so things such as Easter, Diwali, Mothers Day, etc, are all observed and catered for. We couldn't be happier with the place and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending it with 5 stars.

This is our Plan B! Normally with groups that are fairly established it's quite hard to get involved, especially when you don't go that often, but we've always been made welcome. My son enjoys playing with the toys provided, and has a really good time during the songs and stories. It makes a nice change to do something like this, rather than going to Hickory Dickories, or somewhere similar. If you have little ones, I'd recommend this one.

One of the new mums who I spoke to today said "It had a really lovely community feel and people had made a real effort to chat to her" which is lovely, and the way it should be. There are always great cakes available, and plenty to play with, as well as singing and story activities. The parents are welcomed (there are quite a few dads who go as well, so its not all about yummy mummies sitting around gossiping) and the little ones have plenty to occupy them. Quite the most amazing church building I have ever come across…read more The outside of the church looks fairly traditional, and you make your way towards the door expecting the usual sort of thing inside -- pews, a stained glass window or two, perhaps a bit of heating if you're fortunate. Instead what greets you simply takes your breath away. The church has been refurbished to an astonishing standard: the floor has been completely replaced (and there is now under-floor heating); the pews have gone to be replaced by chairs; a tower has been transformed to provide some interesting smaller rooms spread over several levels; and the craft on display is incredibly beautiful. The stained glass in general and the water feature in the baptistry area in particular are worthy of special mention, but there's clearly been a lot of thought gone into every detail of the refurbishment. Ladywood ARC (Arts, Religion and Community) now use the building a lot alongside the parish congregation. I don't know too much about this group (or the congregation themselves) but the space and facilities they have at their disposal are an absolutely amazing example of what can be done with a church building nowadays.

The baby room looks after children up to 2 years old. It is clean, modern and has plenty of toys / activities to keep the children busy. There are cots there and the children have their own sheet which are washed every day. There is both indoor and outdoor space available. There is a 1:3 ratio and the staff are professional, friendly and above all you feel safe leaving your children there. they provide meals and juice but ask that you provide nappies, nappy cream, suntan lotion and formular milk and bottles. the only negative is that the children sleep in the same room as the awake children so that lights dont go down and it can be quite noisy. there is an open day 31st Jan 2009 10am -2pm if you want to get more information. Balsall Heath Church Centre has been standing from some years now, providing a meeting place and…read moredining facilities for elderly residents. There is a monthly meal where residents of all ages are welcome and a hall large enough to hold all that attend. Food is cooked on site and the staff make a great effort to ensure that all tastes are catered for. The Centre provides a great service, preserving both a sense of community and a place where the elderly can meet and eat together. Atop the building sits an array of Solar Panels, a first for a Church in Birmingham and a testament Centre's forward thinking. Balsall Heath Church Centre is open to the whole community and doesn't discriminate on grounds of race or religion, it is a great example of some of the work being done in Balsall heath by neighbourhood groups.
