This small haven is the spot to drop off old glory. One would never know that there is a place to leave flags in need of a proper burial. If you weren't paying close attention, you'd most likely miss the drop off spot.
I've lived here along time and never realized that this was an option. I've always retired my flags to the Boy Scouts. In Boy Scouts, this used to be of value.... Not sure anymore about what the values are regarding that particular organization.
The location is next to the original Allen fire station. The corner of McDermot and Allen Drive. Believe it or not Allen was once a small time town.
With us living in such a tumultuous time, our 'ol Glory always needs a proper place to be placed to rest. This particular container could not be a more proper place for her to start her new journey.
I'm not familiar with this particular veterans group in Allen, (VFW 2195) but I have seen them do flag retrievals from this box. That's how I noticed this location. I'm assuming this is a spot that the Blue Gallery has donated to the veterans post.
Unsure, but grateful I found this location.
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." That says it all!
Be kind to old glory when she needs to be retired. Bring her here!
