The golf course is the best shape of all the times I have played it. The new Champion Bermuda greens were quick, firm and green, all of what you should expect from well-kept bermuda greens. The rest of the golf course is in perfect shape. The tee boxes were a little high for my liking, but that's not a problem at all. After the round, we had drinks and snackies in one of the private rooms connected to the grill. The food is unbelievable. We had cheeseburger sliders, chicken wings, a delicious cheese plate, and the best chicken empanadas I have ever had. The cocktails were strong and tasty. All in all, it was a great day at Trump. The facility is the best in the area without a doubt. I get to play at a lot of high-end private clubs, and Trump is second to none.

The clubhouse and range where nice, but it was not until I rolled some putts on the putting green that my hopes started to rise. They had bent grass that was smooth and blazing fast. The staff were all great. Very friendly and everything you'd hope for at any level course. The course is fantastic. I'd say it has about 3 semi weak holes and even those were fun to play. The overall condition was excellent. The green were amazingly good. The sand in some of the green side bunkers were just ok, but in every other respect this track was so enjoyable to play. The views were stunning. My only regret was my choice of tees. I'm a low handicap senior. I chose the blue tees, which would have been fine with summer roll, but the course proved a bit too tough for me given the softer fall / winter conditions. Don't make my stupid mistake. I can't wait to return to this terrific golf course.

Don't let the fact that it's a municipal course slow you down. This is the nicest muni I've ever played. It's a Donald Ross design so it's a classic! Richard who runs the inProShop is great and has an answer for every one of your questions. They have a driving range, chipping area & separate putting green. All are in great condition. You will love the wide open fairways! The tee boxes are in great condition & large. They have tee positions that will suit every level of play. Most of the greens were in really good shape. There were maybe three or four that had bare spots but not unusual given the weather. They have GPS on the carts. They had rain the night before so many of the holes were 90 degree or 'cart path only' You will get a beep top and a nasty gram if you try to defeat the guidelines. As a Senior on a Monday, I got a great rate of $48 bucks for 18 holes with cart. It's a course I highly recommend!

From the time I pulled my vehicle into the 'bag drop', I knew I was in for something out of the…read moreordinary. A young man immediately picked up my clubs and put them on a cart and instructed me to the ProShop. There I met Jacob who got me checked in and I was smiling with the news that my Monday round of 18 holes and a cart would only be $55 bucks, what a great value! I made my way to the driving range to hit some complimentary balls and also test out the putting/chipping green. My group of 4, was able to tee off right at 1140a with an assist from Mike T, the Starter. I will say, this is a very challenging course. There is a lot of changing elevation throughout and a fair amount of water that comes into play on a majority of holes. There is a creek that criss crosses throughout and some small ponds as well. You'll find the fairways wide open, however you'll be challenged for ball placement as the majority of fairways will funnel to the creek or water. The greens are very fast, they are undulating and generally small for the most part. The views are amazing! It's built in a development with Million dollar homes that line the fairway and circle around the green complexes. There are adequate water stations scattered throughout and there is bathroom at about hole #8 where they have cold face towels in water that will refresh you. I didn't try the food but I did check out the menu and it looked like a good mix of hot and cold options. Even on a Monday it was very busy and our round of 18 holes took about 4.5 hours. It was tough with 93 degree temps and 60% humidity. Just a few nits that were not major but a bit disappointing. Even though they had a food/beverage cart parked by the Club House, there was no one to operate it. In several areas, you will be confused on where to go for the next tee box because there is no directional sign. The carts were all gas, not a single electric cart and they struggled getting up the steep hills. The pace of play was longer than expected, not a big deal when the weather is great but when it's 90+ degrees and humid, you will suffer as there is no Ranger to keep things moving. This is a semi-private club and only members are allowed to play Friday to Sunday. Overall it was a five star experience, sadly it's quite a drive from where I live in Fort Mill but I was glad to check this one off my most of the B-Man's top 10 CLT area courses.

James was in town from NH so he and Ben put together a group of 12 for 18 holes of golf. This time the range was open. It's adequate but it sits way up a hill and they don't want carts up there so you either lug your clubs up/down the hill or pull the ones you want to hit. They is also a chipping green but no bunkers to practice from. There is NO Starter though there is a little building on the #1 tee but it's been abandon. The Pro Shop has a PA system with outdoor speakers so they announce your name and your tee time, ten minutes before. The B-Man has had this course in his 'top ten' for a while. When I played it last year it was #8, it's now number 2. The views around the lake are great. It's country golf in a rural setting and it feels like it. We saw some guys in their Lynyrd Skynyrd & ZZ Top tee shirts. There are some really beautiful Par 3's and nice and short Par 4's. I was challenged once again by hole #7. There is a big pond right in front of the tee box and water on both sides the fairway about 200 yards out with a very narrow fairway landing area. I still have scar tissue from the first time. If it wasn't so far away I would play this course a lot more. All 11 of the other guys just raved about and said it was 'worth the drive from CLT.

I've watched enough doctor shows to know that being out in the fresh air and sunshine is less bad for you than watching doctor shows... so yeah, golfs should almost be mandatory right now (take a mulligan and call me on the driving range?) but the municipal venue near the house is closed for plague today and I'm having a go at here. A little shaggy but not too shabby for a 40-year old public course; it plays a little longer and straighter than the 96-year old course I used to walk up north in C-ville. Mallard Head isn't going to take your breath away with manicured fairways, or greens, or hedges but it will take a couple balls out of your bag when you aren't paying attention. Front is bendier than the back with plenty of room to hit badly before finding trouble in someone's backyard. All in all it seems a decent place to introduce folks to the game while I work on driver and wedges so I'll be back. BTW: nobody within 15-minutes when I went out but folks started showing up when I was making the turn so just 9 today because of shrinking distances...

They…read moreseem to get busy during peak times but I'm really not sure of the pace of play since me and my buddy always opt for as early a tee time as we can get so we can play through with no, or as little as possible, waiting around. Yesterday was 6:10 am and we were first on, first off, finishing in just under 3 hours. It's always weird how 80% of the time they have you going off of #10. They should just renumber the front and back nines and be done with it. Greens range from pretty decent to in rough shape and, like most courses around here, even the high dollar ones, seems as though nobody ever fixes ball marks. The staff is always pleasant and, if you're in the mood, they have a decent, and very cheap, chili-dog with all the fixings available after your round. Have had one for breakfast more than a few times.

We had a Bat Mitzvah reception for our daughter and booked the space several months in advance. In fact, we didn't plan on using River Run, but they were the only ones with the date open. So just luck I guess. However, this turned out to be the best choice we could have made. We spoke to many other providers trying to get a date, or figure out the cost and many were either wildly expensive or didn't have a date available. We looked from Charlotte through Troutman, NC. All up and down the I-77 corridor. In addition, we have very specific and unique requirements. Our son has severe food allergies, no dairy and no nuts.. which rules out lots of different foods, unless the provider is willing to figure it out with us. River Run was surprisingly flexible and creative with all of our requests. They would scratch their head and say ".. Of course, we can figure that out". We were skeptical. The main event was the food. We did not have entertainment or even music. This was primarily a luncheon to honor our daughter's accomplishment. The day before the reception, we wanted to add an arch of balloons, something to make it look even nicer. That same day, the coordinator called us and said ".. We can't do it but I found someone who can and they will have it setup in a couple of hours." They, incredibly, made this happen. Bottom line is that everyone at the reception thought the food was the best they ever had. Many of our guests, know their food. It looked incredible and tasted even better. Somehow, they figured out how to make amazing food with no dairy or nuts. Our son had no problem eating it. Apparently, some of the foods they provided were things they figured out how to do, especially the cupcakes. The point is they were willing, and the food was incredible. In fact, several of our guests, who had never considered River Run, were asking "How did you figure this out?" We were blown away and would go back in a minute, and especially for any further events we have. No reservation about that.

This is the first negative review I have written on any club where I have been a member. The food…read moreis average. The clubhouse facilities are average. The golf staff is outstanding. However, the golf course is always wet due to very poor drainage design. In fact, the driving range, which is one of the big reasons I joined, is closed as often as it is open. The wait staff, with only a few exceptions, is inattentive. My biggest disappointment was that management treated everyone as customers rather than "members." If you love golf, RR may not be the best choice.
