He was one of the most pleasant, kind and honest contractor I ever met. My condo is a rental and the tenant, particular about people in his home, loved the experience as well. we were both so happy with him the the work he did. He removed an area of drywall and replaced it with a new sheet, patched and painted the room. Just beautiful. I would highly recommend him. I also though his pricing was very fair and spot on. I wish him the most success!

I hired William Bullock of Uncle Buck's Painting & Restorations to do a paint job for me as a…read moresubcontractor. He asked me for a 50% down payment, which I paid him via Zelle. Unfortunately, this was a bad decision as he basically ran off with my money, and did not do the job. What happened was that my customer had a deadline for the job to be done, and William didn't order the paint in time, so the customer canceled the job. He said he was waiting for my down payment before ordering the paint, so I don't fully blame him for the paint not arriving in time. The main reason I'm dissatisfied is that he did not refund my down payment after the job was canceled. We're talking about over $2,000 here! He basically returned the paint he ordered and kept the money. I tried asking him nicely on multiple occasions to give me the down payment back, and he refused at first. After asking him multiple times, he agreed to give me the money back in installments. This was not ideal for me, but I agreed to accept the payment in installments because he said money was tight for him. The only problem is that it has been months now, and he has only given me one installment of $400 back. I keep asking him to make another payment per our agreed upon schedule, but at this point he is so late on his payments that I have basically given up hope of ever getting my money back. I also tried contacting Zelle to get me my money back, but they said that they can't help me as Zelle is more or less like cash. At the end of the day, what he did was basically theft and totally unacceptable. I highly recommend thinking twice before giving him a down payment. If you do decide to, at least don't do it via Zelle.

Mathew and his team were GREAT to work with. I got a quote from about 2 years ago and although my…read moretime frame had changed, Mathew still kept in touch which I appreciated. When the time came to paint, it was short notice and Matt and team were ready. After meeting with Matt again after almost 2 years, he came back and updated the requirements and the team showed up 2 days later as planned and ready to work. They did an exceptional job protecting the floors and furniture as if it was their own. They filled all holes, caulked where needed and a few minor repairs. Overall, I would definitely use Mathew and his team again and would recommend them to anyone looking great painters and workmanship. Thanks Mathew and AFM Painting Team

AFM started out with a "6" rating and if I was allowed to add a decimal point probably would have…read morebeen rated higher, but as such, a "4" it is. When I initially put my Painting Project out on Yelp, Mathew was 1 of the 1st to respond and though I originally had another company in mind, through continued diligent communication by Mathew, AFM ultimately earned my business. Mathew was SUPER communicative up until my job was confirmed and booked and then he kinda' disappeared on me a bit until the morning of my appointment, which though it had me slightly nervous along the way and pushed me to have a Plan B ready just in case, it ultimately just let me know that he is a man of his word, but not going to keep beating you over the head with communications in between time. As my pictures show, 1 part of my project was a mosaic-type piece in my Entryway Hallway and though Mat told me that he'd never done this type of design, he also said that he was confident that his team could get it done and do it well! I have to say that Francisco and his cohort who actually did the work did an OUTSTANDING job...I was and am quite pleased!! The small bedroom that I had done in addition was a layup from a 7-Footer in comparison and they did an outstanding job on that as well! =) After the crew left that night, I noticed a faint orange dusting on my carpet, which obviously wasn't there before, because my original walls weren't orange prior to the project. I reached out to let Mat know and he explained what he thought the issue might be and said that he'd come out by the following Wednesday (In 5 days) to take care of it, via a carpet shampooing or alternate method. Mat actually called the next day and said that he would be able to come and rectify the problem in an hour, if I was home and available (Which I was). He arrived in a timely manner and rubbed what appeared to be some kind of paint-thinning lacquer in the problem areas of the carpet and said that letting it sit about 2 hours and then vacuuming the treated areas should take care of the problem and it did to eyes less discerning than mine - SUCCESS!! Mathews original quote was the 2nd highest of the 5 quotes that I received, but when it was all said and done, it was well worth it. I never signed/accepted my original quote however and in gaining my business, Mathew told me that he'd probably be able to come down on the price a bit, but that was NOT the case in the end. No harm, no foul, as I have some culpability in that hiccup as well, for not confirming the final price before work started. With that being said; Though I absolutely recommend this company, I'd implore you to be clear on a price upfront!!

Scott installed two new toilets in my condo this morning. I cannot say enough about the level of…read morecare and respect he took with the job (wearing his mask and booties the whole time, laying out his tools with the precision of a surgeon, cleaning up with perfection), or the pride he took in his work: just look at the caulking around those toilet bases! I can recommend Scott without a moment's hesitation, and will use him again if I ever have plumbing, flooring or electrical needs (he shared he's experienced in all three). It was a lucky circumstance that brought Scott's skills to me: I purchased my toilets at a big box store, along with their installation service -- through a subcontractor. Scott was the handyman they sent, and I was the lucky beneficiary!

If you want high quality, detailed work, with a nice finish, this is NOT the guy…read more The job was to enlarge an interior crawl space opening and replace the existing frame/door with an insulated door and weather stripping. It was $375 plus an additional $125 for insulating materials/labor. For this price I was expecting a completely finished, well installed product, with quality materials and remaining mess/job materials to be cleaned up. The first concern was that a small drop blanket was used in front of the door. But, knowing that you are cutting into concrete block and the subsequent dust that permeates the air, this would hardly be sufficient. The smoke alarms in the entire house went off due to the amount of dust that was created and not blocked appropriately to keep from getting all over the house. When the job was finished and I pointed out the materials and dust collected around the work site, including a nail left behind, I was informed that he "didn't have a shop vac" and "doesn't normally clean up building materials". The additional money spent on insulation labor and materials was used on; narrow stick-on weather stripping that was falling down due to half the adhesive part left to open air, which then stuck to the back of the door, causing it to pull and fall when opened; and Styrofoam board, screwed into the back of the door, partly held on with a busted part of a ruler, and not secured at all on one side. I was told this was "quality work" and that he had technically used what we had agreed on. The front trim/door is marked up and, the trim which he reused from the previous door is too short on one side. Instead of informing me, and agreeing to replace the trim, he re-installed it and said "nothing I can do about that". Additionally, the front latch does not line up and cannot be closed properly. When I expressed my displeasure, and pointed out various items, I was told I technically got what we "agreed" upon. I went ahead and paid the full amount to end the interaction as it was evening already. The next morning, I notified him that I was still displeased and, that the door is not able to function as a proper door, nor is the price for the additional insulating materials and poor labor he used justifiable. He then told me I had flown into a "rage" after asking for a small discount ($40-$50) so I could get necessary repairs. He refused. Really disappointed. I was hoping to find a long-term handy man but all the great reviews really let me down. I guess this is NOT his "type" of work. Buyer Beware.

Unfortunately MY experience was not great. Brandon is a nice guy but lacks professionalism…read moretremendously. For a Christian, he will feed you lies and disappointment. I found Brandon on Nextdoor app for a great price. He reached out and i was open to having him do some work for me and potentially a lot more in the future. We agreed for him to do 1 accent wall and a small bathroom with a toilet in it. Initially, he told me he would see me Saturday after 6pm but never showed or texted with updates. Sunday came and he texted me early in the AM. I decided to still give him a try. He stated after church he would be by me between 11:00-11:30 but did not arrive to my home until close to 1pm. So he def lacks punctuality. When he did come he was reserved but polite. He was also overly confident in how he does his jobs. he made it very clear that his alleged 16 yrs of experience required no painting prep. I must say i was very apprehensive at first but i ultimately trusted the process. He was kind enough to suggest i switch my expensive paint from Satin sheen to Egg Shell. The switched required me to run to Sherwin williams to replace the paint real quick. Unfortunately that would ultimately change the projected completion time. He texted me shortly after i left and stated he needed to run to grab a booked U-Haul. Not going to lie, it was a bit unsettling to hear that he had to leave with absolutely no approximate time when he would return. Not sure where the oblivion came from but it would have been a kind professional gesture to let me know beforehand so i the customer could have a little control on managing my time or who i picked for the job and even when the job would be completed. Who rents a Uhual, move and dont know ahead of time. Personally what he said could be true but i personally think there was more to the situation that he did not want to disclose and made up a story. but i could be wrong. One thing for sure i was not born yesterday. Ultimately he left me for 4-5 hrs before finally coming back to finish. At this point he confidently convinced me that priming my wall with existing paint was not necessary because the new paint with a different sheen had primer in it and it would dry evenly. I must say when GOD gives me wisdom, i ignore it sometimes to avoid conflict. Brandon clearly had a hidden agenda and had no intentions of doing what i wanted and doing it well. In fact he rushed the job and stated he needed to run to the airport to pick up his girlfriend. Now make it make sense smh. ‍ he decides to again not share these details to me before hand causing me to rush and avoid a second or third coat. He knew i was uneasy about him leaving the job before letting it dry and blend. He promised me with strong assurance that he would return if the job was not good and the wall did not blend. Disappointed i was, i felt it was important to verbally let him know that he was wrong for not letting me know about all his daily plans. His response was, "well technically we didn't have a official appointment" .... again his delusion/oblivion in that statement made it very clear he has no accountability. Despite it all, we left on a good note and i paid him for his services. The next day i sent him pictures of the wall not blending like my fear, and his paraphrased response was "ok ill come back and do 1-2 more quotes". Again the wisdom kicked in because i knew deep down inside he had no intentions of coming back. Whats crazy is this man blatantly lied to me via text 3 times about returning to my home to fix the job. Guess what? i even offered to incentivize him to come back by offering additional paid work. Did it help? NO! What saddens me about this situation is how hard it is for minority owned business to do well when you have owners like Brandon who lacks accountability, TRUST, commitment and Professionalism. I mean whatever happened to simply " Just Doing The Right Thing". I am sure Brandon will somehow think how he handled me was right or maybe lie to potentials that what i said isnt true but i assure you i have no reason to lie. Unfortunately i must rank Brandon and his business a 1 star because he left me hanging for a whole week, and made 3 failed promises to return to my home. At this point i will accept the L (lost) and allow my Powerful God to have his way and hold him accountable. i simply would NOT recommend Brandon because he literally did me wrong. Again my goal was not to bash Brandon. He is a nice and pleasant guy but he has more going on then he'd like to admit. Unfortunately good people like me get caught in the cross fire and are burned by our own people.
