Being one of the many Chinese style massage shops that have sprung up around Adelaide in the last few years, people have a right to be wary. However, having experienced quite a few, this one is certainly one of the better ones. I haven't had a bad massage here yet. Word to the wise though, it isn't for the faint hearted - if you are particularly sensitive or like a light massage let them know, or maybe go somewhere else. They are a lot stronger than they look! I like to lay on the table while they pound me and wonder what they are saying to one another as they chat in Chinese and occasionally chuckle. This seems to be something that is common to most of these places, and the fact that you don't disrobe, which is convenient. An extra bonus is that you can get a health fund rebate here so a cheap massage becomes even cheaper.

Had my first remedial massage with Linda Fang today and she was wonderful!…read more I really like a hard massage and I asked her to go a bit harder, which she did, without being ridiculous about it. She obviously knows the body very well and could tell exactly where my tight spots were (not that I imagine that was too hard today!) and she worked them well - even down along referral pain paths which was amazing because I find a lot of therapists don't do that. I went to Linda because she was close to my work and accepts my Bupa health cover (huzzah!) and I'm so glad I did. Apparently she's been in this location for three years but I never realised! I only called up an hour before heading in as well so availability, at least this time around, was pretty good! If you love Eastern style massage and want a massage who obviously has years of knowledge and expertise behind her, I can highly recommend Linda. Plus, her prices are great! $70 for a one hour remedial massage today, of which I get a significant chunk back thanks to Bupa :) Point to note: Linda does not accept cards - make sure you have cash handy! I didn't... But she was very understanding and simply pointed me towards the closest ATM.

Finding a good CHINESE remedial massage is hard thing to do these days. The practitioners who…read moreactually know the way of Chinese massage is as rare as diamonds, and it is not just here in Australia but in more Asian countries like Singapore and Hong Kong as well. Finding Linda's Massage was as much an accident (literally) as it was pure luck. My feet was all swell up after a day of standing and I had Linda's name card on hand. I called to ask if she could help me with them, quoting ankles sprain as the culprit. But first visit and Linda was able to see through the pain and right into the cause. It was an incredible experience, as I have always known that a good traditional Chinese practitioner would be able to do just that and finally, after the longest time, I finally found one! Needless to say, I have been visiting her weekly for about two weeks now and things have been looking mighty good! The swelling is no longer a problem, and I can stand and run around all day without ever feeling any pain! How cool is that? Anyone who needs a great Chinese massage therapist should consider Linda immediately! And this is coming from someone who has been searching high and low for a good Chinese practitioner for ages! I m definitely glad I finally found one!

Similar to many Chinese massage businesses (e.g. Ha's), you can walk in or call ahead without an appointment. Although Siam Retreat is a little bit more expensive, it is totally worth it. The massage menu has a few different options on it, and the staff are happy to explain the difference between them. The rooms are decorated beautifully, and you start every massage with a foot wash in warm lemon water, and end it with green tea or glass of water. My favourite is an oil massage mixed with traditional Thai massage. This massage is done in undies with a towel over you (that is, you are in undies, not the massage therapist). I wouldn't recommend this place if you are quite modest. But, in my opinion, you won't even care when the massage starts and all your aches melt away.

Maria is fantastic. She is obviously very experienced. You can have a remedial or relaxation massage or a bit of both which is what I always go for. She works on your trigger points as well and finds all the sore spots and knots and relieves them. Her technique is unlike any I've had and she has found other sore spots that no one else has gone over before. By the end of it my body feels a bit more relaxed. For me, it's the next day that I feel like a whole new person. I also appreciate her advice and explanation which I haven't had in the past. She tells you why a spot is tight, what happens when it's like that and how to stretch it. I learn from her things no one has told me before. She's not just about giving you a 60 minute massage, her advice helps you keep your body in check at other times (of course you must follow it but the ball is in your court now!!). Trust me, Maria knows her stuff!!
