A great Doctor can be ruined by bad staff, and a great staff can be ruined by a bad Doctor. Here, you get the best of both worlds, Great Staff, Great Doctor! My son has a complicated issue with his undersized jaw and teeth not moving in as timely as they should. Dr. Henry and staff have been very upfront in how to proceed and supportive in helping us understand the process. Orthodontics are not cheap, and we did check in to going where our insurance is accepted. However, we came back to Dr. Henry, as we would rather pay out of pocket and have piece of mind and excellent care for our son. Phase 1 went exactly how they described, on to phase 2 now and hoping it goes as smooth as the first! BTW......after three years so far, we can confirm, appointments always run on time. The text reminders are awesome! Waiting room is comfortable with comp coffee and tea, magazines and TV. Facility is super clean. They also offer comp shuttle service to and from school. I haven't had to use it, but I definitely would if needed and appreciate that they offer it. They have a fun token system with fun prizes. I just got done with my final visit with Dr. Henry. It's been long journey to get my teeth straighten from were it was. Braces By Henry should be called " Miracle By Henry" !!! I had a friend refer me to this place as I needed braces and he said this place does excellent work. I got braces relatively late compared to most people so I did not know what to expect. At first I was unsure about what I was doing but they made me feel very comfortable and helped a lot with all the options and what I was looking at. Got braces in high school and didn't really care who I went to. I went to someone who was referred to me and liked the turn out of my teeth. But little did I know that my imperfect bite would later affect my whole mouth. I got TMJ about 5 years later because of the improper correction of my teeth. Got my TMJ fixed and was instructed to get braces again to fix what wasn't fixed the first time I had got braces years ago. I got my braces the 2nd time by Dr. Henry. He was sensitive to my TMJ that just got corrected and properly treated me as needed. He did a great job and now I will never have to go through braces again! read more

I do not have enough nice things to say about Dr. Henry and the staff here. They have always been so friendly to work with and the results continue to exceed my expectations. Dr. Henry installed my braces and palate expander about 9 years ago (has it been that long already?!) while I was in high school. To this day, I still get weekly compliments on my teeth from random people (coworkers? yep! cashier at the grocery store? you bet! lady at the foodtruck window? check!) and I cannot say how great that little boost of confidence makes me feel. The best thing about Dr. Henry is the quality of his work. The acrylic retainer they made for me has lasted all this time and still has a lot of life left in it. The fixed retainer they cemented to my lower teeth (which took a little getting used to, but now I prefer having it) finally broke after 8 years of chewing, flossing, and what not. Having moved to the Bay Area since leaving Poway, I went to my dentist up here three different times to try and fix that pesky retainer! Alas, it kept breaking. Exasperated, I decided to fly down to Dr. Henry's office this week and give them a try. I figured I should use the same guy who got it right the first time around. The results? Almost exactly like the original one - I can barely even tell it's there and they charged me way less than my Bay Area doctor. I couldn't be happier! read more

When it comes to going to any dental office, time availability, quality and service is key. Upon entry, the office looks very family friendly and well organized. During the short wait times, they offer a place for the kids to play video games(adults may play too ^_^) televisions and magazines. There are also televisions playing as you are getting your teeth done, to pass by time faster. The staff and Braces by Henry were great! They were very professional and friendly. Most of the time my dentist office, they had times that didn't fit my schedule, but not here! I was able to get the times I wanted and on top of that, the processes of getting my braces adjusted each month was quick and painless. I was also given a bite plate to adjust my heavy overbite, which I had on for the last half of my treatment. After about the 2 year treatment, I was very surprised to see my final results! The staff handed me my before and after pictures, and I was so amazed to see the difference in my teeth now! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Braces By Henry for anyone looking for time availability, quality and service that a lot of offices now lack. Also, another thing to note is that during my treatment, there wasn't a time the bonding adhesive in my brackets did not come off. I got an ortho treatment during high school, before getting treatment from Dr. Henry I went to another orthodontic office. The treatment took about 2 years, I told them I wasn't pleased with the results (I still had some gaps that weren't closing). They decided to put me on the retainers anyways, I went in for my 6 month retainer checkup and they noticed the gap has gotten a little bigger so they decided to put me back on braces. That's when I decided to find a new doctor. A friend had told me about Dr. Henry and all the great things about his office. I explained to Dr. Henry about my last treatment and he told me the only option was to get back into braces, I ended up getting braces the 2nd time for another 2 years and couldn't have been happier! The staff are also great, I was able to get one of my loose wires fixed the same day when it broke. I was in and out of the offce within 15 minutes. Dr Henry is God sent. He's very talented, knowledgable and listens to your needs. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor to finish my braces with. His staff are so incredibly sweet and patient-centered. I had a lot of my appointments with Ses and she's awesome. Dr. Henry builds genuine rapport with his patients, and is so highly skilled in his profession that you can tell just by observing his confident mannerisms and well-versed knowledge. He only suggests products or procedures that you truly need, and doesn't try to milk you for your cash like some orthodontists might. In my teen years, my teeth were crooked in a very complex way, but braces did do the trick; however, I was one of those guys that needed braces again because I never wore my retainer. So I had to imprison my teeth in metal for a second time, and I took a suggestion from a friend that was completely satisfied by Dr. Henry's work, knowledge and genuine friendly demeanor. My friend was right on the money, as Dr. Henry was completely invested in my situation and gave me appropriate care. I received a great deal, in which other orthodontists might have taken advantage of my situation of treating pre-treated teeth. I was totally satisfied by the professionalism of the work, the friendliness of Dr. Henry and the staff, and especially the results. Simply put, I recommend Dr. Henry's services as urgently as I can. Broke my retainer a few weeks ago and was in panic. When you spend your own hard earned money on your own braces at 46 you sure in the heck dont want your teeth to move. Called few places, wasn't impressed, and didn't feel good vibes. As a medical professional myself, I have been nothing but pleased with the service I've received from Braces By Henry. When an orthodontist was first recommended by my general dentist, he referred me to a very overpriced orthodontist in La Jolla who recommended both upper and lower jaw surgery which would leave me in braces for over 3 years. I'd already had braces as a kid too! Upon whining at work about this suggestion, a friend recommended Dr. Henry to me after her daughter had gone through treatment with him. After the initial consult, Dr. Henry thought he could treat me solely with braces or invisalign and avoid surgery altogether. I first started in metal brackets, but then my now husband proposed, and I was in panic mode, not wanting to be in braces for my wedding. Dr. Henry was not only excited for me, but removed my braces and created molds for invisalign free of charge! Of course, I did have to pay extra than originally quoted for the invisalign, but that is to be expected. I'm still in treatment here, but I have seen such a change in my bite and teeth with the invisalign, I even recommended my husband go see him (he never wore his retainers after getting his childhood braces off). I got a family discount for my husband's very short treatment and he will be finished soon! I cannot wait to see the final result! Also, the staff and Dr. Henry are all fabulous. They get you in quick for urgent issues (of which I've had a few...pain, irritation, broken hardware, tooth sensitivity), and always return calls or emails. Also, I feel treated like a person here. I've seen some comments that the practice is too busy for them to remember you...this is completely false. All the girls say hi or talk to me when in the office, and Dr. Henry routinely stops to see how I'm doing even when I'm just there to pick up new trays. Can't say enough good things. Would recommend to anyone, adult or child! I hope he's still practicing when I have kids! read more

I found Dr. Henry online a couple of years ago and decided to do a consultation with them and a couple other orthodontists in San Diego. Their office and staff seemed to be both my daughters favorite as well as mine so we decided to go with them. Our family insurance doesn't really cover much for dental, but Cheryl was able to accept our insurance and get us a very good price. The appointments were easy to make and we were in and out fast! The treatment only took a year and a half. My daughter and I both LOVE the results! Something I also learned recently, which was kinda cool is that they have a shuttle available to and from school so that you can drop off your child in the morning to get an adjustment, then they will take them to school. I'll probably use this for my next little one. read more

IMO: STAY AWAY!! I don't think I've ever posted a negative opinion before, Stephen Henry (bracesbyhenry.com) will get my first. The experience was horrible, now my daughter has had to start over from scratch with a new practitioner and will have braces far longer than ever anticipated. Moreover, Henry used up all our insurance, refuses to refund monies and now we are going to pay for new braces out of pocket (twice). Let me start by saying that the staff was very friendly, and Stephen Henry comes off very charming. The perfect salesman. Unfortunately, in our opinion, his work is atrocious. After over two years of treatment my daughter was told her braces were finally ready to be removed. I was surprised by this because when looking at her bite, it didn't appear she could chew food with one side of her mouth, so we got another opinion. Apparently, she had what is called an "open bite" and had learned to chew with just one side of her mouth. I was so taken back that Henry's "high technology practice" missed this that I wrote him an email asking some questions and to confirm they were really ready to take the braces off. At first he refused to correspond in writing insisting on doing it by phone which made me suspicious. It took several emails and canceling an appointment to get him to provide written answers. While some of the answers conflicted with things he had previously said, we did get an answer confirming the braces were ready to be removed. I also asked for a copy of her charts. I accompanied my daughter to see if they were really going to overlook the obvious open bite condition and sure enough they were. I asked Henry to personally inspect her teeth which he did (normally the work is performed by assistants at this bustling practice) and after he did I asked him if in his opinion the braces should be taken off that day. He emphatically stated: "Yes, absolutely!". I then pointed out the open bite and only then did he admit more work needed to be done. Now, and after realizing we knew that the work was incomplete, he started plotting a new course of action. We told him we were not sure that we were comfortable having him do any more work after he was ready to send her home unable to properly chew food for the rest of her life and questioned him about his other recommendations. We were concerned because he had recommended three indepth and expensive additional procedures, two of which he didn't even mention until near the end of treatment. He went on to say things that contradicted his emails and previous recommendations. I asked him to show me his diagnosis and previous recommendations in the charts (he may not have known that we already had a copy) and he stared blankly at them for a while and then admitted it wasn't even documented. This was a big concern, his practice is way too busy for anyone to remember every mouth and recommendation made with consulting a record. I told him that there were two potential courses of action going forward: 1) We let him continue and finish the work he had started but he would have to share in some of the additional expenses for treatment he had failed to originally identify; or 2) He could refund the monies paid and we would go elsewhere. He recommended we go to one of the recommended specialists that we should then decide after getting her opinion. When we went to the his specialist we withdrew any rights for her to communicate with Henry. we wanted to get an unfiltered honest assessment without further input from Henry whom we had begun to distrust. We discovered that the treatment recommended by Henry had to be performed while the braces were still on! (Stephen Henry tried to remove the braces before she even went in for the consult). At this point our opinion that Stephen Henry was either too uncaring, or incompetent was solidified and we decided that to pursue the refund/new practitioner route. The list of things that make up the basis of our opinion about Stephen Henry is long and much of it not noted here. Yet, we were going to take a refund from Henry and go about our not so merry way but when I called and told him that was our decision, his demeanor became rude and he refused. We now have to start from scratch, pay another dentist, and now an attorney too. My guess (and this is purely a guess) is that Stephen Henry has gone through this before. He knows that the recourse against him is expensive and not justifiable from only a financial point of view. He won't admit to any wrongdoing, instead insultingly stating I don't know what I'm talking about (which I don't) but the open bite is obvious, documented and confirmed by a qualified practitioner. His ill timed post-removal referral to the specialist is a matter of fact. His sloppy record keeping, changing stories, and sometimes insulting demeanor towards his patient may be more debatable, but a firm opinion of ours and I'll add one more: Stay far away from Stephen Henry. read more

I, too, shopped around quite a bit before settling with Dr. Henry's office for my adult orthodontia needs. I met with Dr. Myrna (Dr. Nguyen) and thought she was kind, intelligent and compassionate and on the first couple of visits, her staff proved to be much of the same. HOWEVER, yesterday I had an ortho tech named Alexis. While I was brushing my teeth, I choked on some toothpaste that went down the wrong pipe. I was gasping, gagging and coughing SO hard that I had tears running down my face. Alexis was right there watching me and listening to me gag and cough for a good 5 minutes and she did not even ask me if I was OK (not even once!). She just stood there. In fact, there were multiple people nearby and not one person (NOT ONE!), approached to ask if I was OK or needed water (which I was trying to drink but since I was having a hard time catching my breath it was scary to drink anything). Finally, the patient coordinator came up and offered me some warm water which did help some. Then, Alexis was removing my braces, one of the clips she made to my wire sent a zinger of pain to my tooth. I started crying because I had had such an unbelievably stressful week prior and the beginning of my appt was not off to a great start. I was emotionally drained. I don't think empathy is part of this person's vocabulary. To top this off, I called the office today to state that under no circumstances shall Alexis ever work on me again. The person answering the phone said my whole name (first and last) SO loudly, "OK, Karen S[ . . .] let me get your chart." Then again, "OK, Karen S[.....] I've made a note in your chart." The volume she used was surely heard by all. Can you say HIPPA violation? I am hoping to give an update to this review if I have some better experiences moving forward. Wish me luck. read more

I normally have an incredibly difficult time getting impressions done, but both he and his staff were very patient and they made the process a lot easier for me. It's never fun to visit the dentist, let alone an orthodontist but this place is always so welcoming. Everyone here is so kind and accommodating. My kids have been coming here for about a year and a half and what a difference it's made in their smile! They work hard to find the best treatment plan also considering finances. Today, I unfortunately missed my appointment due to an unforeseen circumstance. They tried to work with me and see if I could come in a little later but my kids had another appointment with their regular dentist scheduled for 330. I kept in contact with Colleen and someone else (sorry can't remember her name). They were able to reschedule me however they they said if I happen to get done with their dentist before 4 they could possibly get us in. In the end I was able to get in and they were so nice about my entire situation. I highly recommend this office to anyone!! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Stephen Henry and his very professional, friendly staff for over a year now and I'm amazed at how efficient his office is. There's no waiting when you arrive, everyone is cordial when they greet you, you are are well informed about every step of your Invisalign or braces treatment, you receive check-up courtesy calls after each visit to make sure all is okay, and when you call on the weekends when they're closed, someone actually checks the messages and returns your calls that same weekend (I didn't expect this - bonus points!). I don't think I've received better service anywhere. Hospitality seems to be a number one priority too, and it goes a long way to ease my nervousness about dental work. I completely trust everyone there. It's just a very good, clean, efficient and fun office to visit. Kudos to Dr. Henry and his team! read more

We had both of our kids see Dr Henry for braces several years ago and I should have written a review then! He is amazing, and the office staff is just as wonderful. This office is the BEST and we have recommended everyone we know to him. We were always able to get in to see him whether it be a braces emergency visit, or just a followup appointment....hassle free~! They are flexible with changing appointments as well when unexpected conflicting events come up. We found this office the most honest when it came to the plan of care for our kids braces. So many orthodontists, we found when searching for someone to go to, wanted to start braces on the kids before their baby teeth were even out! Wow!! What a great experience! I first contacted this office about a month ago to schedule a consultation to fix a few teeth that have over the years from not wearing my retainer. When I called to schedule my appointment I spoke to Colleen. She was extremely helpful and did an great job following up with me in order to ensure that my dental x rays were sent to their office prior to my appointment. We were transferred to the SD area between Phase 1 and Phase 2 of our son's Orthodontic treatment and I was concerned about maintaining consistent quality care.
