This shop is a treasure…read more Miguel Herrera does the repairs, and his work is top grade. Miguel explains what is really necessary, and he does not push unnecessary work. Miguel's rates are reasonable. And, he stands behind his work, to a remarkable extent. I needed replacement soles for my boots. Actually, I really only needed to replace the heels, and Miguel made that clear; however, since the entire sole would need replacement in a few years, I asked for replacement of the entire sole. That was my idea; Miguel did not push it. Rates: At first, I thought his rates were high: $110 to replace and repair the soles. However, I later did some research. Miguel used a Bentley-grade Vibram sole, which sells for over $50. And, I needed more than that, because I had waited too long, and the midsole needed to be rebuilt. With parts and labor, $110 is a bargain. Standing behind his work: The Bentley soles added significant weight to the boots. Miguel said that if I was uncomfortable with the weight, he would replace the soles...for no additional cost...with something lighter, something more like what I had had before. Well, the boots ARE heavier, but I'm getting used to that. If I were to ask for a replacement, he would lose the $50+ he spent on the soles. For him to go that far in order to ensure customer satisfaction is, I think, remarkable. Miguel is also a really nice guy. So, no matter how far you live from Lafayette, this is where you should bring your shoes. I live about 40 minutes away, and I do not regret the drive [although I did manage to do this on a day when I had to be in Walnut Creek anyway]. Five stars, a galaxy of stars.

They called me to let me know they were done. They were also done with official Birkenstocks bottom. They even polished and conditioned the leather and repaired some cork. Half price compared to getting a new pair.

Orinda Shoe Service is the real deal. Torre is a stand-up guy, incredibly knowledgeable, and…read moreclearly has generational skill and experience as a cobbler. He specializes in high-end luxury shoes and leather goods, and you can immediately tell he truly cares about quality craftsmanship. I was in a bind with a brand-new pair of Louboutin oxfords that needed sole protection before a wedding, and Torre was able to turn them around the same day. The work was flawless, reasonably priced, and done with an incredible level of care and attention to detail. He also cleaned up a very dirty YSL wallet and somehow made it look practically brand new again. Beyond the craftsmanship, he's just a genuinely fun person to talk to and clearly passionate about what he does. Super happy I found this place!

I needed a complete resole and waterproofing for a pair of men's leather boots, totally changing their original dress soles to lug soles that would work well in the rain. I thought it would take an hour for the appointment, and a month or longer for the work. It took 10 minutes for the appointment, then just three days for the resole! When I picked them up I test drove them, and got a little time on their custom stretching machine to widen the toe box a little -- Torre knew just where to stretch them a tiny bit, at a glance. The workmanship is super clean and the price was so reasonable. These guys are master cobblers, rare in our throwaway times. Let's keep them busy! Pro tip: drive thru Tilden. It takes the same amount of time as the tunnel and is much prettier. The shop is on the north end of Orinda, not far at all from the bottom of Wildcat Canyon Rd.
