The Pasty Shop

If you don't mind having your mouth burned by what is surely a pastry wrapped around molten lava,…read morethen by all means take a bite out of it. If, however, you prefer to have something left of your tongue then you might want to let it cool for a bit before biting in. The Pasty Shop has a decent variety of pastys with the usual ones you might expect including Chicken & Mushroom, Cheese & Onion and Steak. Plus a veggie and some others that don't exactly come to mind. You can also get a decent latte. With a million degree pasty, it's guaranteed to keep you warm on a winter's day. And if it's not winter, it will probably still keep you warm. Tip: Get a Bite Card. These save you 20% at most railway food shops including Upper Crust, Pumpkin, Burger King (only in rail stations) and Pasty Shop.

I have ordered and eaten from many, MANY Chinese takeaways throughout the UK, China Garden is arguably the best I have ever had. I truly cannot fault it. I have never been blown away by it, but I have never been disappointed. It is dependable quality. A favourite of mine is the Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls. They a ludicrously meaty and taste of high quality goodness. The House Special Chow Mein and House Special Fried Rice are also quality and can fill the biggest appetites when eaten together.

Nando's

There is something magical about Nando's. I'm sure my attitude towards them has a lot to do with my…read moreinfinite love for good chicken. In fact, I must say that if anyone LOVES chicken, happen to be in the area (or short drive/commute away), and have some cash to dispose of, they should just visit this place and order a whole chicken and whatever side you fancy to yourself. You have to understand that I didn't understand what was going on in the van filled with the amazing family that picked us up from the station. I had no clue what the mysterious cues they were giving each other. They were literally speaking in tongues as far as my ears were concerned. But I recall that one word was tossed about..."Nando's". My lady missed this place. They all knew it. I freaking LOVE good chicken. They also knew that. So it wasn't a surprise then that this was the first place we decided to stop for a meal after arriving at Norwich from Heathrow. We wanted good food. We freaking wanted chicken. Old school flame grilled CHICKEN. Was the chicken MAGICAL? Yeah, it was pretty freaking phenomenal. The sauces definitely took the whole experience over the top. One piece chicken...five million dabs of sauce. One dab of sauce...one whole darn chicken. YOUR choice! Either or...it comes out freaking pleasant. Okay, before people start thinking I'm crazy or I'm paid to do this...well, I'm neither. I just love chicken and this place makes me content. Chicken-lovers...this place is a MUST! NOTE: My friend compared this to Pollo Loco. I...corrected him. Please don't ever compare this place to Pollo Loco. It's like comparing caviar to salmon roe. it will never come close!

The chicken is amazing, the African peri peri sauces they provide can please any taste bud. Spicy, mild, garlic, wild herb, you name it- they got it. The African/Portuguese influence is amazing not only in the food but the wine selection and the music they always play is so great. I went to college in DC so that's where I discovered Nandos, no matter where I am in the world if there's a Nandos- IM GOING!!! (I may have eaten the food before getting a photo ) Mandy was amazing and made it even more worth the visit!

Their prices though are slightly higher than other fast food places but you get a much better meal for your money. There are limited spaces at this car park and although i have never been through the drive through i have often found myself waiting for a part of my meal as it has to be cooked. This can be made worse if it's during a peak time you go here such as evenings and weekends. The staff here though are all generally friendly and the place is always constantly being cleaned too which makes it feel nicer to eat in.

This particular resturant is never that busy when I've been and I have always been satisfyed with my meals that I have brought for my girls and I. The childrens meals are really good value and they love the selection of little toys they have in them. I love the taste of the burgers they have and their chips are really nice too. These prices though are a little higher than other fast food resturants but I don't mind as personally I think they are better tasting. The service you receive here is ok but not as quick as other fast food chains. Even though my orders are never that large I have always had to sit at a table and wait for my food to be brought over. I don't mind that though as it's quite a quiet resturant and it's nice and clean. There are not many parking spaces here though but they do have a drive through facility.

Five Guys

But, as Norwich has…read morebecome a growing international and university town, I suppose it only made sense for the franchise to expand to this part of England--the other closest location is an hour away in Cambridge (which I will provide a similar review to after this). Prime real estate was secured as you can't miss the big, bold sign on the high street near the Blue Line bus stops. It's also probably the only place in this region where you'll see the Union Jack and Stars and Stripes flying together other than an embassy. It's important for me to distinguish between experiences in different countries. Back in the US, particularly in my home state of California, the plethora of what I believe to be more superior burger options always puts Five Guys on the back burner as an afterthought. That being said, with the absence of these options in a medium-sized British city coupled with occasional cravings for a good ol' American style cheeseburger, Five Guys is the closest one would ever get to satisfying that hunger. And they always pull through, here at least. After making FG a monthly habit and then trying it again at a US location, I can only say that somehow FG tastes so much better in the UK. The burgers are cooked better (they even make their bacon right with the perfect crisp) and though opting to have it "All the Way" with the core toppings makes it a little messy, the efficient assembly line and foil-wrapped product to keep it all together has never failed me, particularly in Norwich. My usual is the Little Bacon Cheeseburger and either a Little or Regular Cajun Fries (seasoning sometimes on the side) depending on whether I'm sharing. When I speak to my local friends about the menu, I bring up the Bacon Milkshake option (bits of streaky bacon mixed in). They always look at me with disgust, but hopefully people will eventually come 'round to the idea. As far as service goes, with everything made to order, there will always be a slight wait. On my first visit, my order was mistaken, leading to the manager genuinely apologising for the delay and offering a swift refund and replacement. If I ask for a side of BBQ sauce (theirs has a little more zing to it), no one ever bats an eye. Also, add FG to the limited list of late-night eats; it's the only place open late in town that isn't a pub. It gets busy but seats are aplenty on both levels and the space is always kept tidy by the staff.
UK Fish and Chips

Very small inside. It had that authentic greasy smell that Fish and Chips shops used to have before they got all "respectable". I ordered a small Cod and Chips for 5 quid 40p and within 5 minutes I was out the door. That was waaaay too fast I thought and I was not expecting much. What a surprise when I got it home. Small???!! The fish was over a foot long, 4" wide, thick juicy and perfectly cooked. The chips were pretty darned good too. This was Fish and Chips the way I remembered it from my childhood. Awesome! 5/5. Yeah I know its only Fish and Chips but there are too many places that can't get it right.
