Chicken especially well-cooked.) with lamb kofta, chicken cubes, and lamb shish. Doesn't come with rice, you have to order that alongside. Loved the warm bread. They forgot to bring our green beans but we filled up on the meat and the Bake Salad, with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, parsley, mint, onion, radish, and dressed with sumac, lemon juice, and olive oil. Really nice and fresh, great for making impromptu sandwiches of pita, meat, and crunchy salad. They're BYOB and they deliver, so I'm sure we'll be enjoying their food again soon.

It's very busy and you may have to sit on the long tables with other parties. I usually hate that, but at Al Baik (its original name) it doesn't bother me at all. It's all part of the atmosphere. That said, you can hang in that area if you prefer standing around the bar, find a cozy seat somewhere downstairs, have a seat with a group of friends in a larger area upstairs, or past the second bar upstairs out back where there's some large benches, space heaters, etc., outside. I haven't been out back since the proper cold has set in, but definitely put this place on your list of places to go for the nicer months if you like quirky interiors. I may be committing blasphemy here, but while their menu is awesome (comic book style) and the drinks inventive, Optimus Rye (priceless!), I'm still looking for "my drink" here... I did have a moment where I drank their weekend slushy machine dry, but those flavours rotate out and the potency varies. This said, I'm still going with five stars for these guys because I'm certain "my" drink is there... I just need to find it. (Most I've sampled have been too far one way or the other on the sweet scale for me personally, but try and try again I say!) For £18 per person (we had it 50% off from Groupon!), you get a big platter of appetizers and a big platter of entrees, though the entrees are small, mezze-size. So you get to try lots of different things. Hard to remember what we had, but i think the appetizers were tzatziki, hummus, a broad bean dip, fried halloumi, vine leaves, spicy sausage, meatballs, and Greek salad. We got some garlic bread first, then pitta to eat with the rest of the dishes. Phew! Lots of food already! The hummus was really excellent - it was thick and garlicky and addictive. Different than I've had at other places, and delicious. The halloumi was great too. Vine leaves were the usual, I don't remember being particularly wowed by the meatballs and sausage, though they were fine, not my favorite part of the platter. The Greek salad had nice crunch fresh vegetables, olives, and tangy feta, so I really enjoyed that. We were getting full already! Then came the main plates - hard to remember it all! You can't really see the dining room for the street, since it's below street level, but it's actually very nice with lots of Greek-looking decor, blue and white everywhere, sort of a beachy feel. Seems to be room for about 18 covers. This is the first time we have sampled Turkish Meze since visiting Turkey many years ago. We started with the Sucuk Izgara (Grilled Turkish sausage) & Sigara Boregi (Fried pastry cigars filled with feta cheese). Delicious. For main we tried the Chicken Supreme & Iskender (Mixed Kebab). Again, delicious & full of flavour. You can definitely tell that everything is fresh & homemade. For 2 starters, 2 mains 2 beers & 2 glasses of white wine the bill came to just over £40. On the plus side, the food was delicious. You can see the shawarma cooking when you come in, and it looks like real big hunks of meat, not gyro meat, which makes all the difference. The Fattoush Special Salad was also fab - fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley, mint, radishes, toasted bread, drizzled with pomegranate sauce and sprinkled with sumac. So much more flavorful and zesty than usual Middle Eastern salads, it was bright and beautiful. I wasn't sold on the Sambousek Lamb - more pastry than bread, they looked like little pre-bought pasties. Admittedly the filling was tasty, but they looked and tasted like they weren't homemade, and just weren't as exciting. I did enjoy the crispy falafels though. We may have also gotten meatballs, I can't remember them - but either way I know we were stuffed, and really impressed by and large with the freshness and quality. Service left a lot to be desired - slow and confused. Sat for ages before ordering, took forever to get water, that kind of thing. They're understaffed, servers were running around like crazy, they couldn't keep up! Sort of felt for them, rather than being too angry. But don't go here if you don't want to linger. I love this place…read more Greek food is one of my favourites, I've spent a lot of time in Greece, and this little place (it really is dinky) owned by an English lady and her Greek husband, really do Greek food well. The menu is relatively varied, of course with all the classics. I've visited a few times now, and it is probably the best Greek food I've had not adjacent to the Aegean. The decor is cute, and if you don't face the large glass front, you can, fairly well, pretend you're in a little Greek taverna instead of the not so glamourous Stockton On Tees (no offence, I just really love Greece). The baklava is also completely gorgeous, not a pathetic soggy attempt you often get in this country.
