This place is great. Diverse nightlife suited to a variety of different scenes. 6 bars with 5…read moredifferent dance floors. You can get into everything from house, pop, rave to RnB and back. They're also one of the few nightclubs that still stay open until 5am. They have shows games and a variety of competitions almost every night. Cover charge is reasonable and you can get in for free until 1030 most nights. They also have a free bbq on Sunday's around 630-7 which is great. If you've never been, you should give it consideration. You'll be in for a good night out.

So I've read some pretty bad reviews about The Beat but I've gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised!…read more Being open to new things, I was stoked that my three friends who attend the beat on the regular asked if I'd want to come to "the best gay club". Arriving before 11pm on a Friday night meant half price drinks and of course we couldn't pass that up. The line was fast moving and we got in with no cover charge (about 10.45 pm). Music was great, but very loud. PSA there are stairs upon stairs inside this night club. I made the mistake of wearing platform heels which later in the night lead me to "gracefully" tripping over one of the smaller staircases and falling down completely, made a pretty sweet recovery though. The bartenders on both the top level and the bottom level were great! There was some great energy going around. The drink prices were the best part. We all ordered vodka lime and bitters which didn't exceed $4.50 each. The bathrooms were decently tidy and the lines weren't obnoxious. I loved that the photographer made it a point to take multiple photos of almost everyone in the club and also showed them to us for approval (a girls best friend). After leaving and then coming back around 2 am, there was a cover charge. I think about $5? But don't quote me because I don't remember. I do remember though, the drink prices stayed consistently low even into the wee hours. Overall, I had a blast at The Beat. Great energy and awesome staff and fellow club-goers. I won't hesitate to make another fun night out of this place.

Family was the only negative experience that I had in Brisbane…read more It's a lot of hype, and full of a bunch of blokes. You have to wait in line 30-40 minutes. While I was waiting in line I'm like, "why am I doing this?"... waiting in line to go into a place sucks... Hype. Blokes. Pretentions people that are full of themselves including the bouncer. There are way cooler places to go to in Brisbane than this one.

The Family on Sunday nights transforms into an all-singing, all-dancing powerhouse of all things joyfully gay. Live acts and guest DJ's often frequent the place (such as the UK's Luciana) which always pulls a crowd. Though, to be honest, I'm fairly sure the mainstay drag queens (Kitty Glitter and Decoda Secret) pull the largest crowds, putting on several shows throughout the night. None of those old washed-up has-been drag queens here - these gentleladies have phenomenal hair that would put Patsy from Ab Fab to shame, and seamlessly choreographed dance moves. Definitely a sight that must be seen, at least once! If you're one of those lucky (or not so lucky, take your pick) soles who works in the hospitality industry, entry is just $10 ($20 for general admission). Drink prices are a tad expensive, as they usually are on a Friday and Saturday night at Family. But it's well worth it for the gay old time you'll have - straight or gay!

I went to my first concert at the Zoo this past weekend and had a great experience. We went through…read moresecurity with no issues and they were very kind. Then our hand was stamped after getting our tickets scanned. The space was really open and we were able to find a great spot to watch TKST (The Kite String Tangle). I noticed that the water line was incredibly long because it's a water fountain and they give you little white cups. I'm not sure if that is what holds up the line or what. The venue is pretty ventilated and I didn't feel overly heated. The show was great and people around us were friendly. People could enjoy the artist and I like that you don't have to worry about a dress code. You can wear what you want and not stress about flip flops. Would definitely come back here for another show.

Once again, I am surprised to be the first person reviewing a place like this. The Zoo is an iconic…read moresymbol to the Brisbane music scene and has been the stage that many international acts have played on. When I was an underage teenager, I remember longing for the day I would finally be old enough to go to this place and see my favourite bands (most shows are 18+ which is common in Brisbane). Bands I have seen here include, The Clean, Born Ruffians, The Go Team and many more. The stage is pretty large (large enough for all the members of Broken Social Scene to fit) and there is ample room for the crowd. There is a nice sized bar that offers most drinks but don't ask them for rum as they will not serve it to you. There are also pool tables and a few tables to sit at. The place may look a little rundown but for the clientele, that is not a worry. If anything, it adds to the appeal. The Zoo has been around for as long as I can remember and is not going anywhere anytime soon. It is a great venue to see bands in Brisbane.

To be completely honest with readers. I didn't eat here before writing this review…read more I will never go back because they do not know how to operate a restaurant business. They do this Brazilian BBQ thing every friday and saturday night. I called up and made reservation for me and my girlfriend two weeks before our dinner. We arrived the place and it doesn't really look like a restaurant at all. It was just a night club with bunch of plastic tables set up. This is not a place where you can wait until other table opens up because this is "dinner and a show" kind of place and they only have one show per night. I walked up, gave my name and they do not have my name on the list. It's cool... we will straighten this out with manager. 10mins.. 20 mins... 30mins.. just standing there middle of the place for manager... yup not happening. The truth of the matter is he knew i was waiting but he just stand as far away as possible to avoid me. So i asked waitress if "guy standing over there" was a manager and what do you know? He was the manager. I go talk to him and he is telling me there is nothing he can do. They are all booked out. If you are booked out then why did you tell me that I have a reservation that day so I travel an hour to get to the stupid place? If you made a mistake then admit and make it right! He was not willing to do that and told me to come back some other time "oh and we are booked out until end of the month" . NO THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I don't care if it is world best Churrascaria and it's actually better than what it would taste in Brazil. IF you don't learn to keep your customers happy, i don't think the consumers will think your food taste great.

Many of you may remember its previous incarnation of the dodgy Mustang bar, but gone are the sticky floors, childlike clientele and (unfortunately) the pool tables of old. It has been replaced with a relaxed but moody downstairs, industrial lighting teamed with leather couches add to the atmosphere in the dining hall. Here you can get some typical North American pub grub teamed with a lottery of 23 rotating ales on the back wall. I had the pig & fig pizza which was tasty and a decent size, you could as share it... My dining partners had the piggy back ribs & the pulled pork roll which they though the meat was perhaps a little mushy, whilst also still tasty. Downstairs from time to time you'll also have live music on stage as well as access to a shuffle board game plus a giant mammoth to go with its name sake... Once you wander upstairs, that's where the stark contrast happens, it's like a vibrant tropical courtyard garden popping with colour and an airy feel, the lounging areas are great as is the view onto the busy-ness of Anne street. You can also keep yourself occupied whilst drinking up here with bocci on the "lawn" and giant Jenga. All in all, I think it's got a great vibe & I'll be back!
