The food was served cold. The combination plate #7 was served dry with no flavor. The # 1 combination plate was served cold and had no flavor. The service from the waitress was good. The service at check out was poor, she charged us for dinner combination plates at 12pm lunch time and then proceeded to argue with us so we paid & left. We will never eat here again. The ambiance was loud and the servers were all over bumping into guest & themselves. read more

What can I say outstanding service outstanding drinks, outstanding food! I had a California burrito, which I couldn't finish because it was humongous. My wife had a combo plate but she very much enjoyed. I will absolutely definitely come back to this restaurant again and I would recommend this restaurant to anybody in the Shelbyville area. read more

No Flavor, food was room temperature, dirty establishment. Cheap prices and quality. Small dining room

Stopped in after reading reviews and in the mood for Mexican cuisine. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Chips and salsa were served while waiting to order. The chips were great... fresh and warm. The salsa was definitely in the top 5 that I've had in a restaurant. We ordered the lunch chimichanga and a taco salad. Both were absolutely delicious and the portion sizes for lunch dishes was more than expected. Margaritas are two for one all day. They were very good as well. We ordered a regular and a "fishbowl" size to show comparison (Note: only the standard size is 2 for 1). I definitely recommend this place and will most definitely return again! read more

We discovered this restaurant last week and really appreciated the service and the hospitality of the hostess. The food was good and pretty predictable, given its one of many Mexican restaurants in Shelbyville. The salsa is runny and poured from a clear plastic lipped vase. Not memorable, as far as taste. The chicken fajita meat is good and the lunch menu is broad and priced well. There's plenty of tables but will be alot more if they open the patio for the Summer. Alfonsos has a family owned feel to it and each waitress helps out with the workload. Would highly recommend this place. Be sure and tip well, they deserve it and have families to feed. read more

AMAZING I would definitely recommend very nice a little dirt but I love this place I definitely would recommend

Having eaten here again for the second time, FINALLY, I can tell y'all it's only improved! We three gals came to celebrate (early) the NOT YET 40th birthday of our girl Kim... you will see her in the pic to follow... and she and I had been here before, but Marian had not. I am pleased to say she was delighted with the good and the impeccable service given by the one and only Esmeralda. (I think I got that right... I had half of one of their HUGE Dos XX mugs of "cerveza" and I'm a cheap date... LOL!) We all had different things: me, the Burrito Real; Marian, a gorgeous taco salad; Kim, her usual carnitas plate... plus the salsa, chips, my queso dip, and Marian's quacamole. Oh, and my side of jalapeños to smother EVERYTHING in! YUMMY!!! My telling Esmeralda that we were celebrating Kim's birthday early led to the wearing of the sombrero, a song, a scrumptious ice cream concoction complete with whipped cream and cherry on top... AND A PAPER PLATE OF WHIPPED CREAM IN THE FACE!!! All caught on my iPhone... pics AND video... BAHAHAHAHAHA! Y'all get to see her BEFORE the damage... but it was priceless!!! If I knew video would work here I'd post it as well. Anywho... long story short, we love this place. Great people, excellent food, fun for all! Still forgot to take pics of the food due to all the hilarity and shenanigans! read more

Alfonso's - Mexican Near Me - Shelbyville, Tennessee

See all

This location has gone through several restaurant iterations in the last few years. Alfonso's seems to be in it for the long haul. They completely revamped the interior and it is nicely designed. There is a small waiting area and two main seating areas. There is an extensive menu of mainly americanized Mexican food. Love the all you can eat tortilla chips and the personal salsa dipping bowl cuz I can double dip every chip! The portions are very generous and I never leave hungry. The service is efficient, although you need to speak slowly and clearly so the waitresses understand what you are ordering. read more

Good food and great service! I liked this place because they give you a lot of food for your money! I got the enchiladas supreme (it had one beef, one cheese, one chicken, and one bean enchilada). Very good. My only complaint is that when I asked for more sour cream to go with my enchiladas I was told by the waitress that it would cost extra to get that. Which seemed odd to me because they didn't put that much sour cream on the enchiladas to begin with. But overall it was a delicious meal that I would recommend trying. My friend had the fajitas hawaianas and liked it a lot to. Once again this plate had a ton of food for tour money! I would recommend giving this place a try! It was good! read more

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant anywhere. This was our first visit in 5 years, we were met outside by the owner ALfonso and Fabiola with hugs. We also had close to 20 people meet us there for meal drinks and visiting. The food is just as good as we have always remember. The service was great as we always expect. Prices are awesome I got the check and was around half the price as I was expecting. Thanks to everyone this place will always be the best; we can not wait to come back again. read more

Amazing place!!! Their food is so much food and the drinks are so great, amazing staff and cute atmosphere. I love this place!! Will definitely be back! read more

This used to be a good place to go, but definitely not anymore! When you open the menus, there is a terrible stench! The service is awful. The food is decent but could definitely use improvement. We need a good Mexican restaurant in town again. Hoping Casa reopens soon! read more

Alfonso's - This is how the "homemade guacamole casero" came out. - Mexican Near Me - Shelbyville, Tennessee

Great salsa, but the nacho fajitas was bland at best, and they could be more generous with the queso. The strawberry daiquiri was extremely weak and reminded me of lemonade, and apparently the A/C was broke, extremely hot inside even in shorts. I'm done with Alfonzos. read more

Yummy !! We started off with the Guacamole,Queso and their Salsa. Great fresh flavor from all of them .Quick service too! Don't let the other reviews fool you,we steered away from this place because of the reviews,,we now regret that. Thanks to our Father in law who recommended it to us.Great Service, Great Food! Alphonso came by and greeted us.we will be in town a few more days and are sure to come back before heading home! read more

Nice clean little place. Food is pretty good, but I have had better service. Great salsa! - and they give you your own bowl so you can double dip with no worries. Overall a good place. read more

We tend to gravitate toward Alfonso's when we are feeling like Mexican food. Our in-laws like this place when they come into town as well. Great food and good service! It's clean and efficient. We've never had a complaint. read more

After reading other reviews, I'm not the only one posting this. Watch your bill, they will charge you more than what's on the menu. This happens EVERY time. Certain waiters will forget you exist. Sour dishrag smell in place. Very dirty... read more

This place is so run down and dirty! We were placed in a booth against an old A/C return. It was covered with so much dirt. The food wasn't even close to good. I do not recommend this place. read more

My wife and I went here on Monday night Jan 7th the food was terrible. It didn't even look or taste like the food we normally eat. We eat at Alfonso's at least 1 time a week. I am not sure if they have different kitchen staff or if it was just an off day, but the food was not good. I think we will go back on Friday to see if its better. We really have enjoyed the food in the past. I hate to stop going so am willing to give it one more try. read more

Great food and awesome service!!! Margaritas are the best around! Love the fajitas! Salsa is perfect too!

This iOS one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. The food's subtle spiciness is very pleasant. Their chips have an interesting texture and are quite fresh. The salsa at first seems mild, then has a most pleasant aftertaste. The margaritas are perfect. I ordered chicken enchiladas with salsa verde. The salsa verde may be the best I've ever had. If I lived in this town, I would come here often. read more

Watch your bill. They don't put prices on your ticket, just scribble and if you really pay attention, you will see that they charge you different prices, whatever they want. Just think, if they get an extra 5 bucks from every table that doesn't pay attention, that's a lot of money. I was overcharged almost 10 bucks last time. I'm done going there. read more

We stopped coming here because we would order the same thing always and was always charged higher pricing that was on the menu! Watch your ticket! read more

The best "Mexican" restaurant in town! The food is very good, with ample portions; great variety on the menu, including kid's meals. The prices are quite reasonable, too. Alfonso, Bernice, Maria, Pedro, and the whole crew are friendly and they love children! On holidays don't be surprised if Alfonzo brings a rose to your wife with a special treat for your child or children. read more

Best guacamole on the planet. Great prices. Friendly staff. They remember you by name.
