Don't go anywhere near him. He is greedy and incompetent.
We arrived for a 9am appointment with Dr. Nowosad for a simple treatment of tablets for our dog, a placid St. Bernard. I first got suspicious when his receptionist said "I hope my boss comes, he is not a morning person". Dr. Nowosad arrived at 09:20, dashing in through a side door.
Every time we have had similar procedures done at other vets, they would have a system to encourage the dog to take pills by using treats or mixing them with food etc... Nowosad's chosen method for administering the tablets to our dog was to tip her head back, force open her jaws, push one tablet deep into her throat and then close her mouth with both hands. There was no warning and no consoling words. The experience caused our dog considerable distress, making it impossible to administer any further tablets.
Needing to administer the second tablet, Nowosad asked me to put my hand in the dogs mouth. When I asked why he said because "she could bite me". I refused and he said "Well, it's your dog. I just have to inject her then." - meaning an injection to supposedly calm the dog.
He did make an injection, but to no purpose, because instead of administering the second tablet, he simply returned to his desk and drew up the bill. He said it was "57.00" euro, then "Oh but I have to charge for the injection". I said that it was not my fault he had to inject the dog, plus he had arrived 20 mins late and so maybe he could overlook the extra charge. His reply was "You are not cool and because you complained I now charge you even more." He ended up charging 72.00 euro.
Nowosad also made disparaging comments to his assistant about my being English and to my wife about all the problems with immigrants and sending them home etc... A clear xenophobic undertone here that was neither encouraged nor responded to.
The experience was highly unpleasant both for us and the dog. There's lots of vets in Calais, so do yourself a favor and use another one. read more
