To all my Hartsville friends and anyone else that would consider shopping for clothes at Alexander's at 148 East Carolina Ave in Hartsville. The guy that, I assume owns it, is a complete and total jerk and a liar and is WAY too expensive. If any of you have ever delt with him and are friends with him then I urge you to copy this and tag his FB page so as to warn the public about him. On Saturday my son called me and said he had been asked to the prom and that he was in Hartsville at Alexander's getting fitted for a tux. I would have rathered him come back to Sumter to order the tux but since he was taking the initiative I thought good job Son. The real reason that my son called me was to make sure that I would pay him back if he paid for the tux. Without questioning him I told him yes...that was my first mistake, but again, he was taking the initiative. Later that evening I found out that he paid $204.00 cash for the tux rental. I bout fell out of my chair. We can get 2 tuxes for about the same price here in Sumter. I went over to Alexander's yesterday to cancel the order and ask for a refund. He, whatever his name...Mr owner guy, greeted me as I walked in with a cell phone up to his ear and asked what I needed. I told him I would wait til he got off the phone. He acted frustrated at me for not wanting to talk to him while he talked on the phone and hung up the phone abruptly. I introduced myself, shook his hand and explained why I was there. When I told him that I wanted a refund he said he already ordered the tux and he couldnt cancel it. We all know that is a blatent lie. This prom is not for another week and a half. He orders his tuxes from Jims Formal Wear...same place the Sumter businesses order from and they can get theirs in the same week. I knew that bc there were some tuxes hanging right in front of me in his shop with the Jims Formal Wear logo. I asked for the refund several times and even offered him a little something for his troubles and he still refused. He ended up asking...TELLING me to leave as things got heated. I was warned that he was a jerk before I went there so I went in with my best foot forward and got no where. I nor my son are going back there so guess I am out $200 plus the cost of another tux in place of that one. My blood hasnt boiled like that in a very long time. I sat in my truck wondering what to do so I got back out and went back up there and asked him to please talk to me rationally and he said I told you to leave my store. I had my phone in my hand ready for photos because I knew he would not talk to me, but I couldnt leave without trying one more time. Apparently my taking pictures of him and his building did not suit him so he called the police on me. Yep, Got pulled several miles down the road. The policeman asked if that was the whole story because there should be no reason for him to not give a refund. The guy told the police that I threatened him. For the record... I felt like making a promise to him but I wouldn't have threatened him. The cop said the money should be refunded because service was not yet rendered. Not sure what to do now. Just wanted the public to BEWARE of this JERK! I found out last night from my son that the guy cursed him several times and dropped the F bomb in front of his prom date and her mother and younger sister. Her mother later called my son and apologized for how he acted. They obviously know each other which proves again the respect he has for his customers and females and children.
