Came here for lunch on a Friday and took advantage of a special that included salad, chicken saltimboca with rice and potatoes and dessert for a very reasonable R$ 67. Horrible experience. 1 - Wi-fi does not work 2 - servers are not friendly 3 - had to ask for the drinks menu 5 times until they finally brought to my table only to find out they were out of the HOUSE drink. 4 - Bread basket wasn't bad, however the sauce they give is barely enough to spread in ONE bread 5 - Apparently this is the only place I ever been that the strogonoff is not served with rice. Not even the manager knew that he had to ask the chef. Came back up with a small bowl of rice. 6 - Disorganized staff and even arguing between themselves next to customers. Wanted to point out that I was here at 12pm, when the place was just opening and not too crowded. Food is not too bad though. Overall a horrible time. Not coming back. read more

If the photos I took are any indication, our lunch at Alessandro e Frederico was quite the savory affair. Primely located in Ipanema, this café serves up a fantastic lunch and also offers the pre fixe executive menu option (where you can select a starter, entree and dessert) for a set price. The three of us ordered off this menu and found each dish to be super fresh and well-flavored. My penne primavera was simple but perfect, my neighbor's steak dish (offered with rice and baby potatoes) was equally toothsome and our guest's fish of the day (lightly fried topped with a homemade sauce and served with rice) was sublime. After soaking up the rays on the beach, we decided to head into one of the side streets and found this little gem. On a Sunday afternoon the place was pretty full though we were able to get a table right away. This is definitely in a fancier area than some of the restaurants we went to so I felt a little underdressed in my beach gear. We ordered an orange juice and some other orange looking juice and both were delish!!!! The OJ was so fresh...maybe they were squeezing the oranges in the kitchen as to why it took a while to get. For an app we had the fig and Brie bruschetta which had a heaping pile of some sort of dried meat - soooo good! For lunch we had the salmon quiche and salmon omelette. The quiche was heavenly and a nice portion size! The crust was super flaky and the salmon had a nice smoked taste. The salmon omelette was also tasty but the eggs were cooked a tad too long. Both dishes came with a green salad which I didn't eat because I loved to main dish so much. Ambiance is very cool and casual! The staff were very friendly and welcoming!! read more

I have visited this restaurant several times, the food is nothing special, the waiters and waitresses are excellent and very friendly, but Mr. Fabrizio could not be more unpleasant. This is the second time he treated us as if we were ignorant people correcting my Spanish pronunciation without knowing who I am. After all, I am a customer and as such I expect respect and attention. I also think that because it is a restaurant with so much "elegance" he should treat its employees with more decency and not be shouting at them in the middle of the room in front of the customers. The first time I ordered linguini al vongole which came with most of it closed, he tried to convince me that this was how it was in Italy... Please signore Fabrizio ! I am a well-traveled person and I know Italian food very well as I am of Italian descent. I think you should leave your arrogance at home if you want to continue your business. I won't step foot in this restaurant ever again. Adio Fabrizio!!! Take classes on how to welcome your customers!!! What a rude and abusive person towards his employees as well as his patrons! Second visit and so impressed! Not only the the waitress remember what I wanted to drink from my first visit the service was fast...but not rushed. Great food...simple caprese salad to but just perfect followed by the rigatoni bolognese...AMAZING. Everything is better by candlelight accept pics if your food. Been here several times yet it somehow slipped under my radar and I forgot to write a review. So let's fix that! Pizza here is great. The service is so-so, but generally on par with Rio standards. The pizzas come in two sizes, one has 4 pieces and the other has 6. Two people can easily share a 6-slice pizza. My favorite pizza is the Diavola, which, if you like spicy food, is just excellent. It had spicy sausage (the name is slipping my memory) but it's Italian - a rare find here. I went twice this week because my Dad loved this place, and the second time they were out of the Italian sausage. So we had the pizza calabresa instead, which was also excellent. They have patio seating, which is perfect for this time of year and is set up so that you don't feel cramped with the others nearby. My only warning is they did the bread-basket trick here once - if it comes and you didn't order it, it won't be free. Just say no thanks. read more

Great Italian food. Also has a sister restaurant by the same name down the street. The gnocchi is excellent as well as the spaghetti and shrimp. We enjoyed a super bread basket with a nice set of appetizers. Beautiful outdoor setting with English menus. Staff speaks some English while manager/owner is almost fluent. This is used to be one of my favorite pizza places in Rio. Nice outdoor deck with views to the street. As of late the quality of service and food has gone down ... way down. For example today we found a large bug in the sardela. We informed the wait staff, who seemed to react as if this was a normal occurrence ... no apology was given. The bread offered with this bug-ridden dip was old and stale. My pizza was bland and greasy, the cheery tomatoes were extremely acidic. One can say the same thing of Alessandro & Frederico sister restaurant down the street, quality has gone way down while prices have gone way up. I think this is just another sad case of management cutting corners for greedy profits at the clients expense. Avoid! read more

I am eating here right now. The portions are extremely tiny. I received 2 raviolis for an astounding 70$R. There was nothing on the menu indicating such a tiny portion. Don't eat here unless you are in the mood for a tiny snack. read more

There are two restaurants with different hours. One opens for breakfast and one does not (same name, a short block from each other). Pizza was good, prices too high (though they clearly pay attention to ingredients. NOTE: they charge for items not ordered, and you won't know it until the bill is brought. At one location, staff was poorly trained and confused. At the main location, the staff was argumentative and rude. The waiter brought bread and spread, and charged R$17 without explaining there was a charge. Could be a great place, but I will steer folks away for mediocre food and bad service. read more

The restaurant is situated in a nice neighborhood, but has a crooked waiter working there. We arrived and were immediately directed to a table outside. My friend decided to use the bathroom and a few minutes later, the waiter returned with a large dish containing different types of cheeses, eggplant and other items that we were not familiar with. I asked my friend if he had ordered this dish and he said no. I asked to speak to the waiter and he had a sinister smile. I mentioned to him that we did not order the dish and he insisted that we keep it. We did not eat from the dish and placed our orders. Upon finishing our meal, we requested our check and noticed that we were charged a ridiculous amount for the dish that we did not order. We requested the waiter to our table and began using google translate. His smile soon disappeared and he went to the back of the restaurant. After several minutes, he came back with a different check which did not contain the dish that we did not ordered. Please beware of this scam- especially if you are a tourist! read more
