The place they suggested was fine but not spectacular so the great Al Pastor search continued. Now these guys know how to run the show. Fifteen or twenty people standing around eating. A line 5 deep. A half dozen employees grilling and chopping and trimming. And the smell coming off this place ..... It was like meat perfume. It was a good thing that the service was quick 'cause it would have driven you mad to stand around smelling that awesome scent and not be able to dig into a plate full o' food. The Al Pastor was crispy, juicy, slightly sweet, piggy perfection. But what's the story with the beer? The not entirely legal taco stand wasn't enough for you? You thought you'd throw in a blanket full of bootleg DVD's and while you're at it why not pass around a few beers! You know what, I frankly don't care. I felt adventurous and wanted to try Jamaican food at the SoCal Vegfest 2016. Having no idea as to…read morewhat Jamaican food is like, I was pleasantly surprised. I got the smaller bowl version b/c my $5 volunteering voucher can only afford so much, however the lady certainly filled up that bowl. Curry Tofu Bowl: a base of brown rice topped with a small kale salad, 2 pieces of fried plantains, curried tofu, dried cranberries, a sliver of avocado, pinto beans, and garbanzo beans/chickpeas; the meal was very substantial and filling but the curried tofu had no flavor whatsoever! The only flavoring came from the small amount of dressing on the kale salad and the sweetness from the plantains. As a curry person, I was disappointed, but nevertheless the dressing was good, sweet and citrusy. Plantains were good when crispy, but a bit weird with rice when softened. I wish for there to be a prevalent curry flavor in a curry dish, but enjoy the healthy bowl of food.
