Fortunately the over the top rude employee is nowhere to be seen any longer but neither is any other employees. Aldi's really seems to be running on minimum manpower because they never have anyone running a register and the shelves are a bit messy and understocked. I still go there but it is never become my one-stop shopping experience for all my grocery needs. I do like the meat and cheese sections as well as the ethnic / European products and the frozen section has a lot of unique products. The produce section may have a lot of products but the shelf life is suspect and the depth of product choices in all sections is limiting. Aldi's you have gone from a 5 star, to a 1 star and now back to a middle of the road 3 stars. Please replace yourself with your sophisticated big brother - Trader Joe.

First of all you should know this is a SMALL grocery store for Kansas City. It's nestled into a busy and compact shopping center in Fairway, so be prepared to be patient with other shoppers as you navigate the small and at times frustrating parking lot. All that being said though, it's not their fault the shopping center is compact and TBH it kind of adds some strange charm to the whole thing? Because of this the actual grocery store is tiny and it makes for one of the more unique Hen House locations in the metro. Every inch counts in this location and they make good use of it. Walking through it I found the actual store to be fairly mediocre. It had kind of a limited selection (I know, it IS small), and it's a bit dark for a grocery store. What set this place apart though, and made me feel compelled to give them at least four stars is the staff. I was in the check out line and as they always do they asked for my Hen House card. Now, full disclosure I probably got my own Hen House card back in 2010 but I always misplace it and I never have had my phone number associated with it so it's usually a hassle and they usually just scan the one the have on hand and move me through the line. At this location though, the cashier waited for me to find it and when I did she said "Hey, do you want me to add your phone number to this card?" I was DUMBSTRUCK. Here I am, after over a decade of using this card in this city, struggling to make it work, and this person was not only able but willing to help me out. I had no idea it would be so simple! She updated my card and I was on my way in no time. I can't say I'd go out of my way to visit this location, or that I'll be back anytime soon, but I'm so grateful to their kind and thoughtful staff that have now improved my Hen House experience at any location in the future and for that, they deserve that extra star.

Recently they added on a wing around their deli, and it looks a little more suburban than the area but not a total eyesore. I often feel you can judge a grocery store by their produce quality, and here it's always pretty good if not a bit more expensive than other stores. They also have a nice bakery area, beer & wine, and all the candy my girls could ever want to find. Not a place I do my weekly shopping but absolutely fantastic for popping in for a quick thing here or there.

Back when I worked down the street from here, and lived nearby, I used to pop in here frequently for beer, wine, and to indulge in their great salad bar. I don't often find myself grocery shopping in this part of town any longer, but when I do I always notice that they still have a great selection of local items, including beer and wine. AND, they still rock a great salad bar. I popped in here most recently thinking I might try one of the waldo take and bake pizzas that I'd heard were rumoured to be available, and was a bit sad that I would have to get thin crust to get any meats on a 'za. Definitely not Cosentino's fault, but that would be an improvement as I'm not a waldo thin crust fan. At any rate, I think you'll find most of what you need here at a somewhat reasonable price. I'd put prices somewhere in between whole foods and price chopper. While you might pay a little more than going down the street to Price Chopper, you'll find a cleaner shop, and tons more local options, which I always enjoy. Now that I live a little bit further out I find visiting this grocery store to be a bit nostalgic, and I enjoy seeing what little treasures I can find if I find myself here.

I dropped a box and they rearranged everything and opened doors for me. I was impressed to say the least. Recently before the above trip I mentioned, I went on a Sunday and they helped me find just what I needed. I'm a regular at this point but anytime I have my dog they're accommodating and their cashiers and owners are great. Love love love!! Make sure to thank them when you go.

The item I purchased rang up at a higher price than what it said on the shelf. Never a good sign. Everything was really expensive, except for a few things on sale - like, I managed to find a single-serve yogurt on sale for $2.50 instead of $4.59. They have some bulk herbs and teas, but the selection is very, very limited. They have a couple water dispensers in back which is nice, but there's no price listed anywhere. I really want this kind of place to survive..... but it's just so pricey; and then the service wasn't great either.

I ordered the bacon, egg, & cheese (aged Swiss, no less!) and paid an extra 30 cents for tomato. I tapped out the order on their little screen (nicely efficient), and it dispensed a slip to take to the cashier. I got a bottle of chocolate milk as well, and after paying at the register, I returned to the hot food counter. They told me it was being prepared & would be out very soon. Sure enough, they handed it to me about a minute later in a bag, and I took it back to my car to eat. I expected to get a small croissant, similar to Burger King's. Not a bit of it! This one was really big, nearly as large as my whole hand. It was hot and delicious, with lots of crispy bacon and four nice slices of tomato. It tasted wonderful, and the chocolate milk was the perfect accompaniment. An excellent breakfast for under $4. I shared some of the bacon with my dog, although it was so good I hated to part with it. All in all a very positive experience. I can't wait to go back!
