I'm a big fan of Aldi based on their low price point and great array of organic and healthy food. I went to this Aldi at 6 pm on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised at how empty the parking lot was. This is a great companion business if you go to the Walmart first and then supplement Walmart's goods with cheaper food here. The Walmart is .2 miles from here. This Aldi was clean inside with plenty of stock including candy, baby food, kitchen items, and produce. The checkout line was very fast and the checkout woman was extremely efficient. Remember it's debit card only and you bag your stuff after the cashier is done ringing everything up. Also if you're a fan of La Croix they sell about 5 different flavors here for about 15% cheaper than at Target or Walmart.

The crowd was manageable and we didn't experience no buffoonery. I'm going back because I had a greedy spirit and finished my treats from Pleasant House Pub and Royal pies. I'm sorry, I really wanted to like this market. Don;t get me wrong, the vendors were great and we…read morebought more than we should have, honestly. But there are some significant issues. From outside in, the parking sucks. All very narrow street parking. Good luck. Then just finding the market is a challenge. An almost unmarked door just down from a coffee shop. What is this, some kind of speakeasy? Once you're in you're looking at two rooms of about 8 vendors per room. Kinda weak. And only maybe 2 of them were actual "farmers". The others had juices or baked goods or breakfast burritos or whatever. Not bad, just not exactly farmers market items en mas. The venue is...weird. It's like an artist coop or something. Really poorly suited to the market. The first thing I noticed was the smoke from cooking (burned?) breakfast foods hanging in the air. Less than ideal. The prices are stupid. Like stupid high. Sure, you expect that from "artisanal", "organic", "small batch", etc stuff. But this was over the top. $8 for a loaf of bread less than 1/3 of a loaf at any other bakery is stupid. The vendors are great, the quality is great. The space, both inside and out sucks, and the prices border on criminal. I suggest you look around for other venues if you are on a budget.

Nevertheless, I want to share the goodness that Sweetwater shares with the community, so here goes! As you can see from the pictures, there is an abundance of verdant goodness being grown here, and a portion of it is free to the community and general public for the picking. Apparently, there is also a farmer's market of sorts with very reasonable prices on Saturdays around noon-ish. I first learned of the Sweetwater Foundation during my undergrad years when the director was one of my Community Development professors. SWF is all about regenerative social justice, and does awesome work teaching aquaponics, urban agriculture, and the like to inner-city students. Anyhoo, I was looking for organic greens for a client, and a friend directed me here. Upon arriving, I saw the plethora of veggies growing, but couldn't locate a soul! I called my friend back, because I knew I had to be in the right place. I didn't, however, know how/who to pay, or just how to go about procuring my goodies. I was told to merely pick what I needed and keep it moving. How amazing is that?!
