Huntington Bank in Traverse City provides substandard investment services as compared to firms such…read moreas Merrill Lynch. Consider: a Huntington senior financial advisor recommended investing $300k in a five-year annuity. The annuity's description created the expectation for an 8% return. It delivered 1.7%. (The S&P 500 delivered 14% during the same five-year period.) Put another way, it yielded $26k, which was $75k less than it should have. It was bad enough that Huntington recommended a loser when most investments were winners. Worse, the senior financial advisor subsequently established that he was not obliged to warn me the annuity was underperforming so badly that it would never recover. He said I was responsible for determining that. I'm a layman. During the first three years, I figured the annuity might get back on track; I didn't have the expertise to know better. (After that, the withdrawal penalty would have changed the annuity from a poor performer to a money-loser.) He's the professional: by the third year, he should have warned me the annuity had no chance of coming anywhere near its projected target. The bottom line: Huntington's financial advisors are just there to sell products. They don't track an investment's yearly results. Or if they do, but don't feel obliged to warn investors of the need to change course and suggest ways to make up for lost ground.

After visiting more than three banks, we finally found someone who was not only knowledgeable and prepared, but also genuinely eager to help us understand the process. Mr. Wallace was able to set up both our IOLTA and business accounts in just one day, something no other bank had been able to do. We were so impressed that we're now opening our personal accounts with him as well. What truly stands out about Mr. Wallace is his exceptional customer service. He takes the time to listen carefully, explains everything clearly without overwhelming you, and goes above and beyond to meet your needs. On two occasions -- including a Friday night when he had personal plans -- he stayed late (after hours) just to make sure everything was completed for us. Because of Mr. Wallace, Lake Michigan Credit Union has earned our trust and long-term business. We highly recommend him to anyone looking for a professional, patient, and dedicated banking representative who truly cares about his clients' financial success.

I do wish their construction loan process was easier to obtain. Unfortunately it is the one service of theirs we don't use. We even closed accounts with two other financial institutions located closer to our home in Elk Rapids because service doesn't compare. In addition, LMCU's technology is superior to other institutions. Features that are standard with LMCU are not even known about by the other institutions. This surprised me considering one of the institutions I speak about is a well known conglomerate. LMCU's check deposit is a time saver. I use their app multiple times a day. And aside from having a rapore with the TC teller line employees, every time I've needed help with an issue (sometimes big), the customer service center reps in GR have always made our load lighter by helping. Thank you Spencer, Charity and the rest of the LMCU team for actually putting the customer/member FIRST. Thank you for personalized service.
