Jake is extremely skilled, patient, funny and does incredible line work. I found him through a friend and checked out his work on Instagram and I was impressed. I brought in my grandmother's handwriting and he was able to replicate it and make one of my visions a reality (as corny as that sounds). I had to reschedule and move the time around MANY times, and he was very patient and accommodating (thanks Jake!). Everyone at the shop was super chill and had great vibes...I'm totally coming to Jake again in the future once I figure out what I want next. I left extremely happy with my new ink, and I was so grateful to have such a good experience (not to mention it was a lot faster than I imagined!). It doesn't surprise me that all the reviews here are good reviews. $40 minimum (which I couldn't believe considering it's in LA!) I attached a photo so y'all can see the script... I imagine there are tons of pictures of artwork Jake has done, and I thought I'd contribute something different (and something that was pretty specific). Parking is kinda tricky. Come early, I circled around the block a few times and found something residential a couple blocks down...not too bad! Then again I did come at 5 pm on a Friday!
Months ago I received a few tattoos from Graham Harrington. As a seasoned ink collector I must say Graham does awesome work. He was professional, on time, easy to work with and has reasonable prices. The experience was excellent. Alchemy Tattoo was impeccably clean, other artists were friendly and greeted me as I was on the table. Great vibes. Graham impressed me with his attention to detail and his gentle hand. He was mindful and efficient of our time and I will be returning to him for more tattoos. I highly recommended Graham and Alchemy!
Jake is awesome! He did a tattoo for me about a year ago over at another shop on the westside, so when I finally figured out my next one, he had already moved to Alchemy Tattoo~ I wanted the words "alis volat propriis" in my own handwriting on my left wristbone. I emailed Jake with my idea and he responded super quickly and was able to fit me in on Labor Day Monday at noon, yay! He smoothed out and refined my drawing and made it MUCH cleaner. The whole process took about an hour or so, and I love how it turned out! The only thing that I was sad about was that my friend who came with me couldn't come watch me get tattooed - regulations and all that, whoops. Parking was super easy to find on side streets, shop is clean and spacious and the artists are all very friendly. I'll definitely be back for more tattoos :) CASH ONLY.
My BFF and I met in LA on short notice and decided to get our matching tattoos that we'd been contemplating for years. We called alchemy because of all of the great yelp ratings and they said they take walk-ins on a first come first serve basis. We stopped in, talked with the receptionist and had a quote within 15 minutes. Within 30 mins I was on the table getting tattooed by Bruno. We were both in and out in under 2 hours, and although we paid a bit more than we thought it would cost, it was totally worth every penny! Bruno is an awesome artist and made adjustments to each of our designs to personalize them the way we envisioned them. Super friendly guy! Recommend him and the shop 100 times over!
Horribly done. Charged me 100 for this. The artist said that he was able to do single needle and fine line, but now after talking to him he said it was done with a 3R. The lines are so thick and uneven. The simple heart is not symmetrical. I told him immediately after the tattoo was done that it was not done right have was think and not symmetrical and he said that "that's how single needle settles". Later he says that it wasn't even a single needle. Just really disappointed with this place. I feel lied to. He said he could do single needle but he actually didn't. He used a 3. And it turned out so bad.
So glad I decided to go here for my first tattoo! I went in earlier in the day -- probably around 1:30 or so to talk with an artist, Bruno, about what I wanted, price, and time of when to come back. I was able to come back around 4:30 and get this beauty done within an hour! Bruno was super nice and fun to talk to through the whole process. I made sure to show him an image of what I wanted but told him to add his own flare to it and he did just that! He made my first tattoo process very easy and less scary by explaining everything he'd be doing. The place is decently priced and clean! It was very chill, which helps the nerves a lot. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get a tattoo done and ask for Bruno!!
Spontaneously stopped by today to get a tiny tattoo and was SO happy i did. I have 4 other bigger tattoos but the attention to detail that was put into my tiny one today was the best I've gotten! Very chill vibes. Will definitely be back!
My partner and I decided to check this place out for spur of the moment tattoos! Our artist Ruben didn't speak English very well which was a little tough, but he was very friendly and kind. He did a BEAUTIFUL job on the moon. I was speechless when I saw it. A little less skilled with the finer, straight lines on the sun rays and the symmetry of the circle. But if you want dot work, he's the guy to go to! Also, it was a little pricey for what we got, perhaps because it was just a walk-in. Great memory and work regardless.
BEST. No other word necessary. My BFF and I first went in for a consultation, where they reviewed our design ideas, quoted our prices, and helped us select the artists we wanted. The consultation actually takes a bit of time as they try to get as much info as possible. We made appts for the next day, which happened to be NYE. I got a script tattoo done by Jake (see posted pic) and my friend got a really cool geometrical design by Alex, and we both couldn't be happier! Our tattoos were done beautifully. Jake has a quick but steady hand, and his lines are incredibly clean and even. We didn't get anything complicated done, but still, the process and healing have been really easy. Neither of us had any bleeding at all during the process, the redness went away overnight, and there's been minimal scabbing and dryness. You shouldn't choose a tattoo place just based on price (it is permanent, people), but it doesn't hurt that Alchemy is very reasonably priced - my tattoo was $70, and I put down a $40 deposit; my friend's tattoo (which was more complex) was $120, but also just a $40 deposit. Cash only, as others have already noted. Don't forget to tip your artist! Anyone who tells you that tattoos don't hurt is a liar liar pants on fire. Having said that, it really wasn't too bad - just be mindful of placement, do your research, and go to Alchemy. :)
The shop just asked me to take my review down!!! Today I received an email from an acquaintance asking, simply, "Hey, could you please take down your Yelp review about Alchemy, I'd really appreciate it, thanks." I replied, in so many words, that I thought it was important that potential clients know that there's a chance that they might get some awful work done like I did, and since my review was truthful and fair, I didn't see why I should take it down. His reply was "No judgement taken, I just work there." Are you kidding me?! (And I told him this much) but to ask me to take down my review without so much as an apology on behalf of the shop is outrageous. It's true what they say, cheap tattoos aren't good and good tattoos aren't cheap.
This was definitely the best tattoo experience I've ever had. My tattoo artist, Sean, was one of the nicest people I've ever met and about a billion times nicer then any tattoo artist I've ever met. His attention to detail was great. I got a tiny tattoo and he took his time, making sure it was perfect and only charged the shop minimum $50. Couldn't recommend this spot more!
This place was awesome decor is really cool. My husband and I went to get inked by Jake. I love his work so clean. I originally found Jake on his IG @ http://i.instagram.com/jakecavaliere/ Staff is uber friendly but professional.
I got my first tattoo here! I was very hesitant on size and placement because I'm a model and I have to be able to cover it up! Luckily I haven't had to because it was strategically placed! I can't remember who did my tattoo unfortunately but he did an amazing job and made it close to painless. Couldn't ask for a better experience!

I came to Alchemy tattoo with my friend while in town for the weekend. She had pre-arranged for us to get some fun themed Texas Chainsaw Massacre tattoos since we were going to see the movie later for its 50th anniversary. I just happened to be visiting from Texas, so it seemed like a great way to celebrate the weekend! She mentioned that she had talked to Chris & that it was his idea. Not only did Chris come up with a clever & creative idea for us to mark the occasion, but he went all out. He drew up the exact chainsaw from the movie, matched the color & even added some blood on the blade. I love it! The shop is traditional cool, with great flash and amazing original framed artwork & taxidermy peppered about. It was clean, well lit, with a relaxed atmosphere. Chris was completely professional, precise and incredibly quick. He was fun to talk to & made me feel completely at ease. I would definitely go back to him again! read more

This is truly an unbelievably unfortunate experience. This was a Friday 13 tattoo and my friends and I went together. Their tattoos turned out great (different artists did theirs) and mine just is the worst tattoo I've ever seen. There's absolutely nothing I could like about it and I don't even know how it could get fixed. Idk if the guy was tired but he did seem pretty over it. He changed the colors from the design (without asking me) because he wanted to give me something more unique..it's definitely uniquely terrible. This really looks like it was done by someone who's never tattooed before. Every time I look at it, just makes me feel like sh*t. Please just choose not to tattoo someone if this is the quality of work you're going to produce. read more

Wow. I have researched artists and tattoo shops for about 7 years in 3 different cities (I moved a lot) for someone to finish the tattoo I started when I was 18. I saw a tattoo that Jake did on my coworker friend that was really amazing coloring and you can tell was superior crafted (she had the same tattoo done by a different artist on her other arm and you could tell the one jake did was much better). So I decided to check Alchemy out. Basically you CANNOT go wrong with ANY artist here. I got my gun finished by Chris...and he was very accommodating and knowledgable and patient with me. My gun looked better than it did NEW...his shading was spot on. Then I decided I wanted Hermes wings on my ankles and I wanted it custom and honestly I had a lot of ideas and needed direction and felt overwhelmed. Thats where I met Marlon Toney. His style is bomb...after we got the size and shape down I basically told him to make it stylized and do whatever he likes as an artist and think would look good. Holy crap, it was better than I could of conjured up, it had everything I wanted in it and he was SUPER accommodating the entire 3 hour tattoo process (asking how I was doing making sure I was comfortable...very unjudgmental and patient throughout deciding where it should go and throughout making adjustments), it looked EXACTLY like his sketch in the finished project. I would basically only get tattooed by Marlon if I get any more tattoos. Also just hanging out in the shop late at night with all the artists were fun, they are all around great guys. I had some awesome conversation and basically enjoyed my time there. I saw Sean do one of the most amazing bird pieces on this guy's arm while I was there too....Im very picky when it comes to me liking tattoos and this one was probably one of my favorites. Long review but they deserve it. Best to you! -lindsay read more

I was visiting my family and friends in LA for a weekend and was looking for a good place to get a tattoo I've been wanting for a couple years now. A good friend of mine suggested Alchemy Tattoo so I decided to give it a shot based off her recommendation and the reviews on yelp. The tattoo artist working on my tattoo was Mike. He was super friendly and made my first tattoo experience completely comfortable. He sketched out what I wanted and it was absolutely perfect. It took about an hour for my tattoo to finish and was $80 total. For the quality, time, and effort that Mike put into the tattoo I was totally fine with the price! I recommend this place to anyone looking to get a tattoo in the LA area. Be sure to ask for Mike! He really is great. read more

I got my first tattoo from here..I had an awesome experience. The crew is very friendly. Kenny was there to collect my ideas and James helped me in finalizing the design. I got an arm band. James did an awesome work... am really happy with my tattoo even Though I ended up paying 30% extra than the quotes which I received from other near studios in sunset blvd. If I decide to get one more then I would definitely go with James again.. read more

This review is for jake. Jake is amazing. He's done a few pieces for me and some friends. He originally did a cover tattoo on me from a really terrible first tattoo (I was 15 so you can imagine) and managed to make it look amazing! Recently he did some small tattoos on me and my cousin. He never overcharges and is super cool to talk to. He's also in a band and he randomly tours Europe! Yeah, he's great. Anyway you should stop reading this review and go see him! You'll be happy you did. read more

I went here originally last summer with two of my friends to get the Venus symbol tattooed on my ribs. My artist (Wyatt, who no longer works there) did an amazing job and touched up the one I have on my shoulder, all for 60 dollars. A year later, I came back to Alchemy because I wanted to get a tattoo of Frida Kahlo's piece "Wounded Deer" on my thigh. Sean was my artist and he was nothing short of amazing. I showed him what a I wanted, and made an appointment for that following Thursday. When I got there, he had drawn up a beautiful sketch and revamped it a couple of times. Then I got in the chair, and he paid SO much attention to detail, every line is perfect and he totally captured what I wanted. Thanks, Sean! You're the best!!!!! read more

Let's start at the beginning...... 16 years ago I thought it'd be really cool to have my friends boyfriend give me a tattoo with a guitar string and homemade motor on my left shoulder. It was not really cool! It was horrible, to the point that when my mom (who forbade me to get tattoos) saw it she asked me, "When are you going to get it fixed?" I dealt with 16 years of explanations, crazy story telling on how I got it, and utter shame when wearing tank tops and halters. 16 years of showing numerous tattoo artists my "prison" tattoo (that is what I coined it to make it seem cool) and telling them my idea for a cover up, to only be snubbed or told I can't do that, I know arrogant tattoo artists I'm sure no one here has met any of them (insert sarcastic grin). I was finally rescued by a truly talented artist, David Robinson! I did not pick a traditional tattoo, you know the ones from the book or on the walls, nooooo I had to have my idea, something that told a story and meant something. I took him photos from the internet and told him what I wanted. He drew it, a TRUE, AMAZING ARTIST! The tattoo speaks for itself. Enough about David, let me tell you something else, Alchemy Tattoo is a GEM, clean, comfortable and super friendly staff! The owner Chris works his ass off and you can see it the moment you walk through the door. I will be going back! Thank you David and thank you to ALL the staff at Alchemy!! read more
After putting off this tattoo for three years, I finally gathered enough courage to finally go through with it today. I already had a piece in mind a couple weeks prior so I walked in to schedule an appointment with Marlon and put down a deposit. When I walked in for my appointment today, 1. Marlon first made a sketch of my piece with a minor few changes/suggestions which I was super open to 2. Modified the sizing of the piece so I can see how it looks on my body 3. Applied the final choice in different positions 4.& then THE PAIN BEGINS. Just kidding. Honestly, for being a first timer and getting my piece on the ribs I assumed it was going to be an extremely painful experience. However, Marlon was super gentle and followed up occasionally to see if I ever needed breaks. All in all, the whole process took about 1-1.5 hours to complete. Tips: - Arrive early to look for parking because it's super limited! I spent a good 10-15 minutes looking for a spot. - For those that are looking to bring a friend for moral support, unfortunately they do not allow others to go into the work space but they can support you from the outside/by text. Final Verdict: THUMBS UP! I highly recommend Marlon, HE'S AWESOME AND GREAT AT WHAT HE DOES! I will definitely refer him to any of my family/ friends in the future. read more

My sister and I came in late afternoon last Monday to get our first tattoos. Although we didn't make an appointment, our tattoo ideas were simple enough to work with and these guys were willing to fit us in last minute. Jake, our artist, was super sweet and answered all our questions and concerns. He took his time in making sure that we were satisfied with the placement, design, etc. and kept us comfortable throughout the entire process. Overall, we were very satisfied with how our tattoos turned out! We nearly teared up seeing how awesome it looked! Just love Sean. Not only is he a great artist, but he keeps the conversation awkward enough so you forget you're getting tattooed, but not too uncomfortable that you want to leave. But he's neat and awesome and all the dudes there are great. Oh, and they don't do $13 tattoos, duh. read more

I've been getting tattooed for 15 years now so I'm no spring chicken to the ins and outs of getting work done. I wanted a traditional style bird tattoo to fill a space on the back of my arm and I found Travis Furton on Instagram and came into the shop and booked an appointment with him. Travis made sure that he drew something custom to fit the very spot that needed filling-and made sure that I liked my artwork-completely- before he placed the stencil on me. Travis was also very sanitary and took every precaution to make sure that his workspace stayed sterile while he worked on me. (i'm crazy about that shit) He was also really thorough when it came to the color scheme of my tattoo, which he fully planned and discussed with me before he colored my tattoo, and he did an amazing job with the overall composition. I'm so happy with my Tattoo and I will definitely be back to Alchemy Tattoo to see Travis again soon. I'd recommend anyone looking for a very professional and pleasant experience to see Travis @ Alchemy-especially if they are looking for someone who does solid traditional work. read more

I researched for about 2 months to find an artist that i felt comfortable doing my first major piece, half sleeve portrait of lady justice (you can see the pic in the photo section). I've had two smaller tats done but really wanted an artist and not someone who could stencil well. I was happy to go with a David Robinson at Alchemy Tattoo. I provided Dave with a design that i liked but wanted him to make his own interpretation as an artist. After putting down a deposit on December 27, I came back for my first session on January 8. Upon filling out the paperwork, i mentioned to the owner, Chris, that when i was leaving my deposit there was a 10% off yelp check in discount on a tat over $50 but that it wasn't there any more. I was told that anything web related is run by a 3rd party so he wasn't sure what i was talking about. He didn't seem too concerned that a "3rd party" was posting discounts that he would have to honor. Since the discount wasn't on yelp there wasn't much i could say. As far as the design, i couldn't have been happier. Dave knockedd it out of the park. 1st session took 3.5 hours and did the outlining. Second session was 13 days later and the shading was completed in 3.5 hours. Thee last session was February 7. With the new month the 10% off a tattoo over $50 for checking into yelp. No restrictions other than it had to be work over $50. I check in and show it to the owner, Chris, & he immediately says he thinks its supposed to say for first time customers. He doesn't actually address the discount and my session begins to do the coloring. The owner splits for the night and doesn't address it. I'm looking for the discount 1) because they advertised it and 2) for the current session only and since its the last i could throw a few extra dollars to Dave. Dave hooked up the discount and said he would take it up with the owner. Dave is a true artist and i would recommend him to anyone that is looking to get work done. His hourly rate is a little more than others but on par with others who do the more complex pieces, like portraits. Plus, the work is for life. You shouldn't skimp on work like this anyway. Dave himself gets 5+ stars. I saw the work of the other guys, including the owner Chris, they all have talent. I only lump off a star because of how the owner tried to not honor the advertisement that his store is putting out there. If you want good work then go here. I just hope the place doesn't lose their talented artists due to management. read more

There isn't enough time in the world for me to express how much I love Alchemy Tattoo. Marlon designed and inked my first tattoo, and I can't wait to get more from him! My roomie and I went to Alchemy looking for a specific artist, but it turned out that he'd moved away a week earlier. We were about to leave when the man at the front asked us what we wanted (teacup tattoos) and directed us to Marlon. After seeing pictures of his beautiful work, we made appointments for later that month. Over the next few weeks, we communicated with Marlon via email to explain what we each wanted so he could come up with a few possible designs. When the day of our appointments arrived, I was really nervous. Marlon was incredibly calm, patient, and friendly through the entire process. I liked different elements of two of the sketches he created for me, so he drew up a composite on the spot. It was perfect!! He really took his time making sure that the tat was ideally placed before getting started. I was nervous about the pain, but Marlon has a very gentle hand and only a few tender spots made me so much as wince. The price was very reasonable and I was happy to pay it after the superb experience I'd had. The tattoo healed quickly and well, and Marlon happily gave me a touch up later to fix a few spots that had fallen out when they'd scabbed. Strangers stop me all the time to compliment me specifically on my tattoo's clean linework. I follow Marlon on Instagram and I get the itch for more ink every time he shares another one of his creations. I couldn't be happier with this tattoo! (And my roomie feels the same way about hers.) read more

I seem to get a new tattoo about once every five years or so. It's not as though I am on a schedule or anything, but maybe it's just my id telling me to do something drastic. Anyway, no matter how many times I've done it before, the thought of putting something permanent on my skin tends to make me apprehensive, but thankfully I found the right artist at the right shop. With social media being such a strong part of our lives, it's no wonder I found my artist on Instagram. It's probably the perfect medium for them to advertise their art. I started by googling "best tattoo artists LA," and after a few links, found Sean Arnold's name and Instagram "beanieseagull." It didn't take me long to figure out he was exactly the artist I needed. Checking their website, appointments must be made in person. While this can seem like an inconvenience, looking at it from their end it makes sense. It's a lot easier to schedule something over the phone and not show up. Making someone come in, and put down a deposit for something like a tattoo makes the whole thing more real. Anyway, after briefly meeting with Sean we settled on an idea and scheduled a date - roughly two months away -- which is plenty of time to debate what you want. While what I want was never a question, where I wanted it was, and honestly it really came down to a last minute choice. Getting tattooed is never pleasant, and I'll probably never say this about another man, but Sean has a light touch. Obviously the needle did it's job, but it was never horrible and never once did I need to take a break for the almost 3 hours needed to do the job. Not just that, but the overall result was better than I could have hoped for. Overall, an excellent experience, and I may not wait another five years for my next one. read more

Bruno was so nice, funny and made my whole experience at Alchemy great. This picture was only three days after I got it done so it needs to still heal but he offers free touch ups! 10/10 would recommend going to Bruno. read more
