Yelp says that a five-star rating means "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" and for this town, this county, this section of the Hi-Line, and all the needs that this Albertson's meets, that is an absolutely correct descriptor for this location.
Want groceries? Even though it angers locals that Albertson's prices in Great Falls are cheaper than Cut Bank's, the largest grocery store selection you're going to find on Highway 2 between Montana's eastern border and Columbia Falls is the Cut Bank Albertson's. On the approximate north-south I-15 axis, I don't know of any grocery store with more selection between Great Falls and the Canadian border, not even in Shelby.
Your only other non-restaurant food options in Cut Bank are: the smaller Harvest Foods grocery store, which opened in 2018... the summertime farmer's market at the park on Highway 2 that goes down on Wednesdays, featuring mainly Hutterite produce... trying to eat out of your own garden, which our family didn't have much success at in the windy, semi-arid climate... participating in Bountiful Baskets (which I didn't completely like because I didn't appreciate not have full control over every last item that arrived in my box)... or ordering bulk organic foods online through Azure Standard's monthly program. Since there's no local interest in a Cut Bank dropoff location, you'll have to drive to Shelby, Chester or Lothair to pick up your stuff. (Which we did.)
Need a prescription? With the only other Cut Bank competitor now out of business, you can only get your scrip filled here or online.
Need a job? Two members of my family were able to get reliable employment here for as long as it was needed. There are many good, salt-of-the-earth folks who staff the place. They became our friends, especially in the case of my daughter, and we miss them.
Want to shop in a shiny, renovated and updated new store? You're in luck. The corporation just overhauled the whole place and held a grand re-opening last spring, in 2018. Wise move, corporate dudes.
Want to meet Canadians, Hutterites, summer tourists-bikers-hitchhikers and basically every citizen of Cut Bank that you know, don't yet know or may even want to avoid? Unless it's at the bar, the gas-station casino, the church or the school, Albertsons is where that's most likely to happen, so you'd better learn to grin and bear it. ;) read more
