This was one of my favorite spots for gelato! They're located in Corniglia and there was a queue into the shop. Since it was mid-day, the town was quite packed, but it didn't take too long to order. For the flavors, I choose basil and mint chip. Both flavors were very good and I quickly finished the gelato on the side of the shop. The basil flavor, especially, is a must! Best Gelato Ever! Their Basil gelato with EVOO is so fresh and bursting with flavor - I wish we had something like that in the US (or at least I have not had it yet). We also got the coconut which is equally good but the basil is definitely a must because you don't find it easily. I feel like the hike to Corniglia makes this place even more special. Best gelato we've had in Cinque Terre so far! We heard great things about the basil gelato, and after climbing those BRUTAL stairs, we deserved a treat. There was a bit of a line but so worth it! You can get several things here - juice, gelato, slushie (granite), etc. We opted for the basil gelato and lemon slushie - both were so tart and refreshing! Be prepared for your mouth to pucker with the slushie. Basil works surprisingly so well in the gelato, and it's fresh! We didn't care for the cookie in it but the flavor made up for it. I am a hugee fan of basil in general so naturally I had to order the basil flavored gelato. It's both refreshing and mildly sweet. Very well-balanced I would say! They had kiddie sized scoops so I (unfortunately) ordered one of those since I didn't want to spoil my dinner... I kind of wished I got a size up though ha. My sister thoroughly enjoyed her lemon sugar crepe. There aren't places to sit so enjoy your treats pressed up against a wall in the shade. The guys running this shop are a lot of fun, which in turn makes your entire experience more fun and fulfilling. So, Alberto Gelateria is best known for their basil gelato. And yes, it is pretty tasty. There are a bunch more flavors to choose from as well. Being partial to coffee flavored gelato, I tried ordering a scoop of that & the basil and got scolded. I appreciate that honesty and sort of homey feeling. Wound up pairing the basil with pistachio & of course, that was the way to go. Some of the charm definitely comes from where Alberto Gelateria is situated. It's down a super cute and tiny, fairytale-like, street. A gelato place with my name on it (sorta), Alberto Gelateria is a very popular gelateria in this area. And if it's good enough for travel extraordinaire Rick Steves to recommend, then it's good enough for me. And if you don't know who Rick Steves is, for shame - he probably has the best youtube video to watch if you're interested in visiting Cinque Terre. But enough of Steves! We stumbled into Alberto Gelateria after walking up more than 350 steps (!!!) to get into Corniglia's main street, where the gelateria was located at. Though it seems to inhabit a sub-level of the building it's a part of, Alberto Gelateria offers a welcoming, bright, and airy environment respite from the warmer weather outside. We got the honey and pistachio flavors and I really did like how admire how light each flavor was in both texture and taste. In addition, the scoops of gelato were large enough for my gf and I to share. If you're hankering for something sweet and providing you want a workout when you're visiting Corniglia (or just all of Cinque Terre), Alberto Gelateria is the definitive place to go for gelato. read more

Worth the ton of stairs you need to walk to enjoy this place. Because Cinque Terre is known for their basil and lemon, I was told I needed to try it. Although we have had a ton of really tasty gelato in Italy, I think the most memorable ones were in the Cinque Terre region. The quality varies quite a bit across different shops and there are many of them, so we always checked reviews online to avoid wasting our sugar quota. Note that Cinque Terre is known for their locally produced honey, lemons, and basil. The staff recommended exactly this trio, so I went for it. The tangy and sweet lemon paired well with the unique and refreshing basil. Add in their creamy and milky honey flavour? It was one killer combo. Alberto really nailed the level of sweetness in their gelato, it was perfect for our palates. We bought the Cinque Terre pass, so we took the bus up to Corniglia as opposed to trekking up the stairway. Corniglia is one of the five towns in the Cinque Terre region, but the only one that is up on the cliff instead of by the ocean. You can either trek up the stairs to the town or catch a bus up. Just know that when you reach the quaint town of Corniglia, you'll have a treat at this gelateria! All flavors are made by the owner himself & he has a good selection. Arrived after a hike between vernazza and Corniglia, and this was our treat!!! The flavors are very unique. I got the basil honey and my friend got honey peach. I wish I got the peach because it was so refreshing and had a kick of rosemary in it. Nevertheless, the basil honey was delicious, the basil tasted like pesto and was savory. If you want gelato in Corniglia, you gotta earn it by walking up seemingly endless stairs. It's worth it! Alberto Gelateria caught my eye with a sign that said "vegan gelato!" Well hello lover. I stepped in and was greeted by two friendly guys behind the counter, who pointed out their vegan options (fruit flavors and chocolate). I opted for strawberry and chocolate. He scooped, put a cookie on top, and...gave it to his co-worker. "I forgot, the cookie isn't vegan, let me try again." That was so thoughtful! The gelato was so creamy. The chocolate wasn't nearly as dark as some vegan chocolate gelatos I've had, which was nice. It paired with the strawberry beautifully. It was the best texture, I savored every bite. read more

BUT fear not! There is a bus that will bring up to corniglia from the train station. The honey flavor was subtle and yummy. The basil flavor tasted great if you're into herb flavors. It's probably a crime for me to rate Alberto Gelateria just three stars, especially after hiking those Corniglia stairs, but for me Alberto Gelateria was just another gelateria. The miele di Corniglia and coconut flavors were too subtle to the point of being bland. The lemon granita was extremely tart. I guess you can say there are really no added sugars here and everything is in its natural state. What I did like about Alberto Gelateria was it's cuteness, variety, colors, giant lemons, and the little waffle wafer cookie they served on top of their gelato. I had their basil gelato special, which is a small scoop of basil gelato drizzled with olive oil and served with a savory cracker (I think the cracker had rosemary in it). I expected it to be kind of a gimmick and thought the gelato might just taste like nothing (like the touristy lobster ice cream I've had in Maine) but it was actually delicious! It had a strong basil flavor but it wasn't overwhelming and it paired really well with the olive oil. I don't know that I would have wanted to eat a giant bowl of it but a small scoop was cool and refreshing after a long hike. The texture was good too, very creamy and rich and not icy. I'd give Alberto 10 stars if I could. We stayed in Corniglia for four nights. And I came here four nights in a row. They have homemade popsicles and frozen treats, and the gelato is good. BUT THE GRANITAS! The granitas are made from fresh lemons that are grown in Corniglia. It tastes absolutely heavenly and is perfect to cool you on a hot day. The guy who works there is cool too. Recommended to us by the Rick Steve's guide book, we sought out this specific Gelateria and it didn't disappoint! There are many to chose from in the town of Corneglia but I will save you the tough decision by giving this one a high recommendation. They have incredible homemade flavours, their special being that of lemon, as well as their lemon slush which my mom had, and loved. Best taken out to be enjoyed while walking around as their are only about 2 tables, a couple of chairs and a bench on the inside. You may have to fight your way in, or awkwardly stand in the doorway shouting your order but it is worth the experience for the rich flavour. read more

I absolutely loved this gelateria. The people are incredibly nice and happy to serve their customers. I ordered nocciola (hazelnut) and anything with Nutella at every single gelateria I visited during my 2 week stay in Italy. I never wavered with my flavor choices so that I could compare each place.
