For those of you that aren't familiar with it, it's a shopping centre that for years has needed work and now they're finally doing some of that work. The Albert Heijn however has not been done yet which means that right now it really can't get more than three stars. Not their fault. The shop is fine, the staff friendly and helpful, I never have to wait in line for too long so really, everything you want from your grocery store is there. They even have basically anything you could want but if they're out or don't carry an item, they'll order it for you. So, the shop's downfall? The building is crap, newer stores look much nicer (inside and out) and there's no option of a self service check-out which saves a lot of time and our regular Albert Heijn (and even the AH to go) does have. I'm hoping that renovations will soon reach this part of the Kwinkelier and help make this Albert Heijn a much more inviting shop.

The one inside the Centraal station doesn't offer the same kind of selection like this branch. They have a wide variety of options for veggies, milk/yogurt, alcohol, and general products. They take cash (which is vital because so many places now in Amsterdam are credit card only). Definitely bookmark this place for your grocery runs when you are in the city.

After paying for a shopping cart (50 euro cents) you walk in and can grab your own scanning device. You start at the touch screen and it assigns you your very own scanner. While you shop all you really need to do is scan each item and place it in you shopping bag. Once you are done with your shopping you go to one of the cashier centers that handles the self scan system. They will charge you and you will be on your way. Be aware that they do random checks to ensure that people are in fact scanning their items properly. Things I would change: Since the self scan system is so popular I think it's necessary to have more cashier stations handle this service instead of the traditional shopping system! Right now that is NOT the case. Make it easier to scan like items! Now you have to use the (+ and -) on your scanner instead of being able to scan like items more than once. Overall: Highly recommended! Tips: Bring your own bag and don't forget to scan every item!
