A pretty nice grocery store with a wide selection of fresh produce, and already prepared snack snacks. Service was pretty fast with fast grocery lanes and a few self check out stands. It's a nice little neighborhood grocery store read more

Resultantly, when visiting the Netherlands, I had to go to Spar. That being said, my expectations were exceeded. Spar in the Netherlands has so many varieties of high quality tasty food, it's almost overwhelming and hard to decide. Much better than Spar Hungary (though that's greta too). I definitely suggest Spar Netherlands to locals and tourists alike. Prices are reasonable too.

As a resident of Otterlo I recommend this store because it is not too big, yet it enjoys all the amenities if you want to do more serious cooking while on vacation. The store was expanded a few years ago and the fresh bakery has been a total delight. When you walk in, the scent of wonderful Dutch bread already tickles your nose. And their vegetable department has plenty to choose from, including several organic versions. In that vegetable section you can squeeze your own bottle of fresh orange juice, (I totally recommend doing that!) while you watch the oranges drop by, in a special machine -- different size bottles are available and priced accordingly. Watch out for the Dutch candy section at the end, before you get to the cashier's line! You will be tempted by the amazing selection of chocolates, sweets and sours, and especially the "drop", or salty/sweet Dutch liquorice. I am already training my grandchildren to enjoy this treat; but don't tell their parents . And oh, that does not include the cookie section because that is located, across from fresh cut flowers, when you enter the store. And if you know that at the end of the workday, around 5ish, lots of ready-to-be-outdated supplies go on sale, then you have savings included as well. Parking is tough but free, sorry but our Main Street (=Dorpsstraat) is small, European size, with real cobbles. I take my bike -- that solves that problem!

Started by a man who foresaw the possibilities in having a set amount of grocery product ready to pick up, this chain has grown all over the world. This particular store, called the XL version, is larger than most AHs and has a corresponding larger aisles, a larger selection of specialty items, a larger selection of soda, wines and beers, and a larger selection of cheeses and breads. Of course AH carries its own branded items, from frozen to sauces to canned vegetables. If you like, you may skip the lines where you pack and unpack your own groceries (! Yeah, it is not like America where your groceries are bagged for you), by using the hand-held device with which you manually add each item. The fun part is coming on the weekend when they sell fresh "saucijzenbroodjes" or a croissant type of bread with seasoned sausage: a Dutch specialty! Parking is ample (XL version as well :0). Just don't forget your coin for your cart.
