This branch of Albert Heijn was convenient for me, is the closest store to the Doubletree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal where I stayed during my time in Amsterdam, around a minute or two on foot away, I used this place a lot to get essentials for my room such as snacks, milk and water.
This is a convenience store, style supermarket from AH, who are the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands, with over 500 branches more than the nearest competition.
The store seems a little old-fashioned at times, mainly at the front of the store with the checkout store and barrier inside and out, but from the outside is all glass, it does look quite nice.
The staff here seemed average, although they did seem unhelpful at times due to the language barrier, so I had to end up asking a fellow customer to help translate some milk so I bought some, due to having a large variety. He helped me find the right milk I wanted and the cheapest one too, which could have been made clearer on signs in the store or at least by the staff.
The overall selection around this store was satisfactory, although single drink beverages such as Lipton Iced Teas were much less stocked compared to other stores, such as AH to go branches inside Centraal Station.
I also did have an issue with the staff, they ended up shortchanging me by 20 euros, I ended up giving too much cash, which resulted in being given less change - it was really lucky I checked my change before leaving the store, I then had to ask the staff member to check the camera, and they did reluctantly do it, but this did take some time - in the end I got my money back at great struggle.
Due to some issues with service, and the overall feel of the store and the fact I was nearly robbed for a large sum of money (20 euros), and the process of getting it back was made difficult (although I did get it in the end), I feel the only thing good about this store was because it was so close to the hotel I was staying at, but with multiple branches which are much better within walking distance of just a few minutes longer, the location factor can be put out of the equation less, due to reasons discussed I feel this Albert Heijn store requires a hell of a lot of improvement, mainly in the service region, warranting a one-star rating. read more
