Dr. Jones helped me tremendously with back pain I had been dealing with for over a decade. The pain escalated in May 2025, and after seeing a surgeon and going through physical therapy, a chiropractor felt like my last option. When I first went to the office in May, I was greeted warmly and had my evaluation done. Dr. Jones reviewed my X-rays and explained his findings. He was upfront that the office does not file insurance, but he stated that they provide all the documentation necessary for patients to file claims themselves. He also reviewed the treatment plan and total cost. Because I had already spoken with my insurance company and understood what would be covered, I chose to pay for the treatment plan upfront. I was also told that I could not file my insurance claim until the prepaid treatments were completed. In September 2025, after completing those treatments, I filed my insurance claim. Since then, I have been going back and forth with my insurance company because they requested documentation showing that the treatment was medically necessary. Unfortunately, the documentation provided by the office was not sufficient for them to determine medical necessity. After reviewing the records myself, I understand why. The "progress notes" provided were essentially computer-generated summaries based on the answers I entered during the check-in questionnaire, rather than detailed clinical notes documenting the medical necessity of the treatments. My insurance company contacted Dr. Jones' office multiple times, never receiving adequate records. Eventually, they requested a peer-to-peer review, which simply required Dr. Jones to speak directly with the insurance provider to clarify the medical necessity of the care. On Monday, March 2, I contacted the office to let them know that the insurance company needed this call. When I went in for my appointment, after receiving my adjustment, I was informed that Dr. Jones would not do the peer-to-peer review. At that point it became clear that I had not actually been given everything necessary to successfully file my insurance, despite being told that I would be. As a result, I am now out over $3,000, money I was counting on receiving partial reimbursement for through my insurance. What was most frustrating is that the office quickly wrote me a check for the remaining prepaid appointments (about $1,100) after I was told that the second phase of treatment would require weekly adjustments for the next year. While it may be easy for a business to write a refund check, most people cannot easily absorb thousands of dollars in unexpected medical costs. I trusted that the office would follow through on what was explained to me at the beginning. If I had been told upfront that the doctor would not communicate with insurance at all, even for a peer-to-peer review, that would have been a major red flag , and I would have chosen a different provider. I'm sharing this so others can make an informed decision and avoid ending up in the same situation.
