To say our experience with Albany State University was disappointing would honestly be an…read moreunderstatement. We drove 4.5 HOURS, spent money on a hotel, and took time out of our schedules to attend a scheduled campus tour, only to get there and wait 40 minutes for absolutely NO ONE to show up! No phone call, no email, no explanation, NOTHING. Now, I completely understand that things happen and plans change, but communication is the bare minimum. Especially when you're dealing with prospective students and families who are taking time out of their lives and spending their hard-earned money to come see what your university has to offer. What makes it even more frustrating is that we were genuinely interested in Albany State. We didn't drive 4.5 hours and pay for a hotel just to sightsee. We came with the expectation of learning more about the university and potentially making it part of a very important decision. I just find it hard to believe that a university expecting students and families to invest thousands of dollars into their education couldn't manage to have someone show up for a scheduled tour, or at the VERY least communicate that no one would be available. Again, things happen. That's understandable. What's not understandable is the complete lack of communication and consideration for other people's time and money. Hopefully, this isn't a reflection of how Albany State handles other matters concerning its students, because if so, that's definitely concerning. Needless to say, we left with more questions than answers, and unfortunately, none of them were about academics. First impressions matter, and this one definitely wasn't a good one.

I've been coming here for about a year now and honestly, it is a lot easier than I expected…read more Because I work, I take most of my classes online with maybe only one or two class (usually a hard class) on campus each semester. The instructors here are good for the most part when it comes to teaching. The courses are not all that challenging. It's not hard to get a B or even an A if you just simply pay attention and take good notes. Be careful not to miss too many days though because many of them will drop you from the class. However, they will excuse you if you simply email them at least a day or two in advance. The campus itself is nice and easy to get around. It's not too big but not small either; just right in other words. Plenty of benches and chairs throughout to sit down and chill. The library, although a tad bit small, is resourceful. The cafeteria has some good food on most days but a lot of the students use it to lounge around and play card games and such. Plenty of student parking but it can be packed at the beginning of the semester but usually dwindles a bit after about the first three or four weeks. Make sure you have a valid Student Parking permit because they do issue out tickets. I've seen it happen. Books prices, like most colleges, are pretty high. I suggest renting a book or buying a used one from someone else if at all possible. The bookstore is decent and usually all of their supplies are in stock. I have approximately one year left before I get this Associate's and move on to a four year school. If you do decide to enroll, try to learn as much as you can and make it one of the best experiences that you can. Most of the teachers actually care about their students' success and will do everything they can to help you.
