Our guests were so impressed with the venue and loved the fun atmosphere. The huge bar and lounge area really set a fun tone and create a social setting unlike a standard wedding/banquet hall. The grandeur of the main room (with hardwood floors and a huge chandelier and stage) is classy and traditional, but with a modern vibe. We also loved that we could use the original marquee outside to put our own names and customized posters. We held both our ceremony and our reception at the Capitol, with a cocktail reception on the Mezzanine level in between. The meal was delicious, and we received such great feedback on all the various menu options (we started with a broccoli soup with goat cheese ravioli in it, and for the entrée, guests had an choice of chicken or braised short ribs - the nice thing was, they got to order their choice AT the venue, rather than having to make up their mind in advance via the RSVP. For dessert, we had crème brulée, and my Maid of Honour tells me it was the best dessert she ever had). We have heard nothing but raving reviews, even from the celiac vegetarians, who must have been a challenge for the chef. The food was still of top quality - my braised short ribs fell off the bone and practically melted in my mouth - and the presentation was also impressive. The late night snacks we chose were comfort foods - mini grilled cheese, sliders, and regular and sweet potato fries. Everyone enjoyed the meal so much that we heard many people say that were too full to enjoy the late night snacks. A good problem to have! But above all else, the service was the most notably impressive aspect of the day. The staff at the Capitol were so incredibly accommodating to any and every request we made. Upon our arrival, my Mom asked how difficult it would be for me to get a cup of tea to calm my nerves before the ceremony began. We were worried that we would be putting the staff out during a very busy time - but the staff were so eager to help, and delivered a hot cup of tea to the "Green Room" (bridal suite) faster than we could have imagined. They also ensured that the Green Room was well stocked with water, wine, and anything else the bridal party might have wanted. They servers kept asking us if there was *anything* we wanted. We truly felt like VIPs, all night long. During the dinner, the staff kept the napkins folded on the tables. And one thing that really impressed our guests - at each table, the plates were all laid by the servers at the exact same time. It felt like such a classy affair! The bar staff (who even concocted a yellow drink to match with our wedding colours) and serving staff were amazing - so personable, so accommodating, and of great spirits all night long. All this while maintaining top-notch professionalism and class. Our guests truly felt welcomed, and I believe that the friendliness of the staff significantly contributed to that. Leading up to the event, Carmelinda and Katelyn (a student I believe, who has since moved on) were both very pleasant to deal with, and quite organized. They really ensured that all our special requests were made. My only issue, which really had no impact on my day - was with the in-house A/V guys (Evolved Entertainment), who were slow to respond to emails and not overly helpful. We brought in our own DJ, but had to still pay $750 to use the Capitol's audio system. We cannot stop talking about what a perfect day it was. We recognize what a unique and customized event it was, and don't believe that we could have achieved that same feeling at any other venue. We have not one single regret about our day. We will be very quick to recommend the Capitol to anyone looking to throw a big event.

Either option is not cheap. in fact it is certifiably expensive. but you do get some good memories...unless your the drunken groom...then you barely have any memories.

Signage, facilities, drinks, and, of course, food which will the reasoning for the dismal rating. Everything about the wedding was lovely, the space, the drinks, but the food, man, was the food bad. The worst out of the way first? Sure. There was this shrimp soup. Correction, there was some type of.. meat (questionable) that once used to be shrimp but was either severely overcooked to the point that it crumbled in your mouth and had some type of texture that resembled goat cheese. It didn't taste rotten, but it definitely did not taste like shrimp. I was not alone in my disdain for this shrimp soup dish. I'm not sure anyone I talked to enjoyed it. Mains were wholly uninspired and missed the mark. My wife had the fish (arctic char) that was dry and bland. It was supposed to come with a white beurre blanc sauce but that never came. I tried the filet mignon which, although not overcooked, was tasteless. Chef, please season your food. Everyone was racing for the salt and pepper. The plating was also lacking. I can remember everything that was on the dish, 2 asparagus, 1 gem potato sliced in half, 3 broccoli crowns, and a half sliced tomato and the main. Surprisingly these veggies were on both the fish and beef dishes. There was a cool swan made of butter though.

Forreal though, the run Soho House had can only be rivaled by 2011-2015 Whole Foods. You really had to be there... but like any other prime, Father Time always catches up. I was set to do a full rise and fall piece on the Soho House right here on Yelp but in my research, I stumbled upon an article by Lydia Moynihan in the NY Post and she nailed it. I really didn't have much to add so go over and read that if you have a sec. Shoutout to Lydia. Instead, I'll just recap our experience here like any other boring Yelp Review. We came to this Toronto location before the Taylor Swift concert, and I was pleasantly surprised. It felt like prime Soho House. A beautiful, discrete brick building with an old school interior. Whoever designed this one needs a raise. I'm so tired of the cookie cutter half-assed modern architecture. The ones in LA and NY now feel like it is just a bunch of dorks trying to be seen by God knows who. There is no soul in those locations. We grabbed a drink in the lobby and went upstairs for our 5pm dinner. I domed a couple of negronis and we split a margherita pizza and a bottle of pinot noir before our mains arrived. I got the rigatoni, per the waitresses recommendation because she had a thick Italian accent. Big truss. She wasn't lying either, that rigatoni went crazy. I took like 30 pictures before a staff member came over and said no pictures, as I didn't know that was still a rule here... please don't beat me up. We closed dinner with a couple espresso martinis before setting off on foot to go see Big Tay put on a show. She really did her thing. Thank you Soho House Toronto, for giving me a taste of what the Soho House used to be in the states. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

We arrived on time for our reservation and were reminded about the $20 per person cover charge, which was fine by me since it goes directly to the musicians. We were shown to a table that was very close to the stage, which was cool, but the way the table was placed meant that my back was to the stage, which meant I had to keep craning my neck to get a decent view. It was uncomfortable, to say the least. Add to that the extremely loud music and a lack of proper air conditioning and I was just suffering in my seat. But I was trying to be a trooper about it, so I ordered a Manhattan. The drink was pretty decent, but I was just so hot and so uncomfortable that finally I threw up my arms and requested the cheque. Our waiter was very apologetic but we were charged the full cover, which meant that with the drink and tip the bill came out to $77. $77 for a 26 minute experience is a little ludicrous. I can't say I'll ever return. One thing I'll say is that there's a reason jazz clubs usually have round tables. It's so unpleasant to have the band at your back, and I'm shocked that's the layout they're going with.

Sarah assisted me in coordinating our group getting on/off the water taxi from Toronto over to the island and also with helping people get situated for the event since I was unable to attend in person. She did a fantastic job and went the extra mile, ordering an extra water taxi for me when one of our VP's was running late from a very important meeting. Everyone who attended gave me rave reviews on the skipper and crew than ran the three 8' foot yachts I reserved. The photographer I hired through the yacht club also did an amazing job. I set up a small training session with appetizers and drinks before they sailed, and that was well done. Dinner for everyone was also reported back to my VP's and GM's as delicious and executed well. They raved about the steak. The wine selection offered to me was a great choice of red and white from Canada, US, France and Italy. They have a strict dress code. No blue denim, short shorts, mini skirts or tank tops. Hats are only allowed on ladies if they go with their attire in the dining room. Collared shirts are required for dining. If you decide to visit you will likely be on the second floor. I was able to sneak down and check it out but I didn't fully experience the main part of this establishment. However the decor inside is great and sets a nice vibe. Staff are friendly and there's a lot of selection and they do cater to vegans. Lots of great areas in this space for hanging out or even playing games. The third floor as I found out is for private events and is the top floor of the building. It's a fairly large space so if you are interested in having an event this place could fit the bill. Again some very interesting decor makes the space warm and welcoming. Special secret hint apparently you can also rent out the 3rd floor on Airbnb as well. We found a fully furnished bedroom and of course had to ask what was up with that. If you are looking for a great place to hang that maybe not everyone else has found out about yet this is a pretty good place although the popularity tells me it won't be that unknown for too long.

The Faculty club, as its name suggests, is for faculty and current graduate students whereas the University Club is for any alumni of UofT. They are very similar in their purpose and affiliation, but the University Club has the added benefit of a gym membership, overnight accommodations and some events for children. I've been to the 2nd and ground floor for various social events and award ceremonies and these places are all very similar in the type of catered food they serve and the traditional 1900s decor. The University Club also has larger dining halls compared to the Faculty Club. Pros: - Catered events have diverse options including curry and asian-inspired hor d'oeuvres. - On the first floor, there is a wood-paneled room with a lovely art collection for cocktails events. As you go further down the hall, there is a blue room with bar and seating for ~100 guests. Cons: - With the exception of the rooms upstairs, the rooms can be quite dark due to the decor and smaller windows. - Parking can be kind of hard to find as this house is tucked away near the middle of campus.
