I recently completed a 48-hour transitional "eligibilty determination" period to make Albany Care a temporary home for myself. Fortunately, the Team of qualified mental health professionals have surpassed any and all expectations, so I feel confident that with their unwavering assistance, I shall succeed. Evidently, this period is a requirement for persons with mental health conditions who seek to be relieved from what for me was an agonizing experience of homelessness.
Psych-Social groups, along with a plethora of empowering and joyful Activities, distinguish Albany Care. Outstanding Case Management staff coordinate plans for recovery/resiliency. Food is really nutritious and, thank God, delicious. My prayer is that while residing at Albany Care, I shall be able to return to graduate school to finish my doctoral degree while staying at the facility and working part-time. I can assuredly ascertain that this place is where dreams that have been imagined some time ago can begin to become realized again and self-fulfillment is within reach!
Indeed, I am grateful beyond what words can express with regard to my having been assigned to Albany Care. I hope that in sixty days I shall be nestled into a Single Occupancy Residence (perhaps a studio or efficiency apartment) and taking effective care of myself. The primary purpose of this Review is, in particular, to "keep in motion the cycle of positive feedback/feedforward."
Indeed, self-care is what I continue to learn so joyfully at Albany Care. Perhaps my online five-star Review posting of verbiage about this Intermediate Care Facility had been noticed. Each word emanates from a heart filled with genuine gratitude.
Frequently, I have focused on inspiring plus encouraging documentation on the wall in the lobby of Albany Care: significant information that clearly describes the Albany Mission, Vision, and Core Values. I also have included these exceptionally thought-out protocols in the Statement of Purpose section of my application for doctoral studies in Philosophy at Loyola University of Chicago.
Still enduring enervating symptoms of long- and short-term memory lapses, caused by the aftermath of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, I prefer to delve directly into what I CAN remember, keeping in mind the aforementioned cycle of positive feedback and feedforward.
Foremost, I would like to extol the telephone skillfulness, reception etiquette, and overall professional savvy of Sam, who adds more class and distinction by his presence and demeanor at the front desk of Albany Care than I ever could. How wonderful to be greeted by that awesome smile as the days go by. Clearly, residents, staff, and visitors alike find his upbeat disposition disarming; yet at the same time, his businesslike aplomb allows for no nonsense. Rather, a "straight-to-the-point" constellation of positive attributes combine to make Sam such a prized employee at Albany Care. I am certain that divine intervention brought Sam to Albany Care to serve diplomatically, kindly, and courteously with every gesture that he makes, epitomizing true grace.
Another gracious, accommodating, and conscientious gentleman by the name of Jason, Nurse on the third floor--who also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health along with his credential of Licensed Practical Nurse--goes the [proverbial] "extra mile" to provide much-needed medical assistance in showing me how to treat my painfully blistered feet. His expertise included referring me to Dr. Toren for further treatment that, in admirable humility, Jason displayed by indicating how his recommendation of Dr. Toren resulted from his limitation as a practitioner. What extraordinary kindness Jason demonstrates! May God continually bless him in his meaningful vocation of service!
Also noteworthy is the empathy of Ms. Janette, Certified Nurse's Assistant, whose willingness to offer a helping hand to the Nursing staff on the third floor is truly exemplary. Ms. Janette has responded swiftly to several of my requests, doing so in a manner that is totally consistent with that of Mr. Sam's and Mr. Jason's.
This text is all that I would like to compose for now--so, until the next time when I am able to add more credence to this review and continually engage in the process of highlighting positive feedback (with more "take-away points of interest"), I gladly shall remain
Respectfully,
Robert Talkie, MA, [Former] Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS)
