To get in this store, you must enter the DM store, walk all the way back until Led Zepplin's…read moreStairway to Heaven appears before your eyes. (The art store is 3 stories high worth of extensive offerings). Five stars for: - Well stocked/diversified offerings for an art store. For this area, I am impressed. I reached orgasmic artistic heaven when I was able to find a large diverse range of supplies here including some specialities I was looking for (but otherwise, it's better to go to the art store in Rennweg Zurich to save time) ... So on the specialty front, thank goodness I don't have to rely on trips to the NYC (when I visit my family) to get them. Knowing Konstanz is only 1 hour commute, it isn't so bad. - Good customer service. They were so helpful and even able to show me their selection of Chinese calligraphy and sumi (Japanese) supplies. [They only supplied sumi rice paper, and a good Chinese calligraphy selection taking into account this is Konstanz] - Reasonable prices. There is a range of items you can get so you can pay less or more depending on your needs. Specific notables for me about this store: - Carry loads of calligraphy paint. - Carry Chinese calligraphy supplies (ink, brushes and brush sets and paper). - Carry loads of various papers for different types of painting or sketch work. - Lots of drawing/sketch supplies including pencils and anal retentiveness on many variations of pencil sharpeners. There is even a special display on erasers. Sketchers' heaven... - Great for painters - esp lots of acrylic variety, from suppliers in England, Germany and Netherlands. Lots of paint brushes, including packaged sets or individual brushes (which I prefer as I can select what I want). I even bought a large easel from here (but with this, you must bring a car, as mine was huge/long but they do sell the smaller table ones for EUR 30). - Huge knitting store on the first floor. - Knowledgeable and helpful staff. May not all speak English, but if you are living in Switzerland (like me), I have a working understanding of listening German... so I was somewhat about to communicate or understand. Otherwise, use Google Translate via: log into the free WiFi here under the DM (limited time for 1 hour), or use your data plan (my Swiss plan still worked here without roaming on DE network at times). Sign language accompanied with pictures, always helpful too. - If you are a resident of Switzerland, don't forget to get your "Ausfuhrschein", it is to claim the VAT refund on the tax. Fill out your details (name/address/ID number) and upon your next visit to this store on another day, you can get the cash back on this VAT refund. Just don't forget to go through the customs ("Zoll") to get a stamp on these receipts so it is official - you will need your official travel documents to show you are not a resident of DE. For train riders, this is at the SBB station. For drivers, there is one at the border where you park and walk into the office. - Only accepts Maestro card or cash. No credit cards.

Idee is the biggest craft store I've found since being here in Stuttgart Germany and surrounding…read morecities in nearly 2 years... it's similar to Hobby Lobby, A.C. Moore and Michaels in the USA minus the home deco extravagance that Hobby Lobby boast and the crafting machines you can purchase for different crafts. The store does have deco like framing but not variety and flowers and jars and paints and materials and jewelry making and scrapbooking and so on. I'll definitely be going back to this craft store. This craft store along w/ The P Cookery in Ludwigsburg Is my favs. There's one more that's in Esslingen in the shopping area of stores where they have there yearly Medieval Christmas Market. The name I do not no. It's a nice size store w/ great crafting finds as well. I do know its worth a visit. I'll be going back soon. Once I get the name I'll be reposting it. I promise.

I sort of fell in love with this place…read more Yeah, it's expensive for certain things, especially rubber stamps and inkpads - but the staff that helped me were really friendly; the guy who explained about calligraphy pen nibs actually brought over a book they sold there to show me what was what (mentioning how one needed practice, and of course a book - good salesman ; ) ) . So yeah. I had a really good time, and if I ever find a job in Germany or win the lottery or discover a big pile of money on the side of the road, I'm spending my first paycheck/all the money here. Well? What're you waiting for? Go!!
