Southbound train to Seward, excellent scenery, with a guide experience. When in Seward there are boat tours which picks you up at the train station, or walk around the town. Do visit the aquarium, and try the food. There's also a zip line. The train leaves late in the afternoon to return so there's plenty of time, for adventure.

I took the Costal Classic to Seward from Anchorage and then back to Anchorage. It was amazing! The staff were very kind and the train cars overall were very clean and comfy. I was able to see lots of beautiful mountains and wildlife. It was a great way to spend a Sunday with my family and I got to learn about how trains Wye to turn around! I recommend this to anyone who has a chance.

A wonderful trip. The seats were comfy and we had lots of leg room. Incredible scenery and the train was slow enough to catch some wonderful sites. Highly recommend to anyone! Such a pleasant trip

This was spectacular! Views were breathtaking, train was super smooth and quiet. As a teacher, I try to budget wisely, but let me tell you: splurge for the gold dome!!!! DO IT!!! Way better views, 2 free alcoholic drinks and unlimited non-alcoholic drinks and a free breakfast served to you in the dining car. The staff was wonderful as well!

    Outbound from Anchorage

We spent almost 8 days on a tour arranged by Alaska Railway. Overall it was an excellent experience, a great introduction to Alaska for our first visit, and a reminder that rail service need not be as bad as AmTrak makes it. We have traveled a lot and been to most of the lower 48 states, and almost all the major national parks. This trip was a great one for us. Our tour included all transportation and hotels, most meals, and several side tours. We never traveled in one big group, as people have different routes an days and locations. We went from Anchorage to Girdwood to Seward to Denali, with a couple of turnarounds in Anchorage. The trains ran on time. The crews were helpful and knowledgeable and ever-present. The meals were adequate (not fancy) and the seats comfortable. We opted for Gold Star Service, which costs more but means we traveled in domed cars meals and drinks pre-paid. The rail company has excellent connections with tour people. For example, our nature center tour leader took us to lunch and handed us off to the river rafting crew. They led us back to the train for a brief trip to a dropoff point, and stayed with us down the river to a bank-side pickup point. They dealt with our luggage. But remember that on a tour like this, connections are everything. Hotel clerks were not always as trained on shuttles and departure times so be sure and check everything every day along the way. On our tour we saw everything we expected, and more. Wildlife outside the train windows: Glaciers from small and large boats; Whales; moose and more scenery than you will believe. Note: we don't care for Cruise ships and crowds, and found this a great alternative. And probably less expensive than a cruise. We loved it. It was for us the trip of a lifetime.

Wow! That was a awesome experience. Best views from Anchorage to Seward. Easy from beginning to end. We dropped off our luggage which arrived at the ship. The train ride was better than anticipated. We had Gold Star service which included assigned seats, beverages and a breakfast that was delicious with panoramic views. I would highly recommend it.

Rainy and poor visibility of glacier.

We were transporting from Seward to Whittier to board Princess cruises. Kim picked us up late in Seward, she was to be there at 11 am and it was 11:20 when I phoned and left a message with Renee, and then Kim appeared. The van was very dirty, I mean it was not good. From there we went and she got gas and her rockstar and 5 hour energy drinks. We thought at first she was just a bad driver, so we are like ok. Swerving a little here and there off the side of road several times. Hitting the rumble strips. But then she swerved onto oncoming traffic, the van crossed the center line of the 4 lane road going down a mountain and half the van was in the lane of oncoming cars, a big truck to be more precise. When we heard the rumble strips we all screamed and she woke up cause she had fallen asleep. She had DOZED off several times. We asked her if she was ok to pull over, no I am fine I am just a little nauseous. She continued to almost rear end several vehicles and was constantly scratching her legs and pinching herself to keep herself awake. We asked to get a picture when we got in the vehicle of the Kenai Fjords National Park sign, well she passed that up. So she stopped at another sign, so thank god, really thank god, because I honestly thought we were going to DIE this Saturday in this horrendous vehicle with this woman. We pulled over to get a picture. I did ask strangers for a ride because I was terrified to get back in this vehicle. At that point I refused to get back in that vehicle with her. She told us if we got back in she would give us back a $100, I told her no way. My husband drove us the rest of the way. I really felt she was going to kill us or severely injure us. That van could not have withstood a crash at 70 MPH. It was absolutely awful. I wish I wouldn't have paid her at the beginning because I wouldn't have paid her. I can't believe the boss lets her drive clients. I am a travel agent so I will make sure to leave my reviews. I am thanking god my family is here today. It was to say the least a traumatic event. I Have taken hundreds if not thousands of taxis I have never had this life threatening experience before! Please Please take the coach bus from Seward to Whittier, do not use this company!

Absolutely amazing…read more I wish I was a better writer, so I could really get a picture in your head of how beautiful the countryside is that you pass in the comfort of your deluxe train car. It is a 2 story train car with fine dining located on the first floor. The ceiling, is a glass dome ceiling. YOU SEE EVERYTHING! Dinner was fabulous. Do not mistake it for train food. This was a culinary experience. My husband and I had a pasta w/ reindeer sausage, and my brother had the best prime rib he ever had in his life. This upset my mother quite a lot, since she used to hold that title. Wilderness Express is not available to everyone. It is a Royal Caribbean & Celebrity Cruise Line exclusive thing. So if you want to experience it, it must be part of your overall cruise tour package. Just another thing to consider when choosing which cruise line to go with for your Alaska vacation.

Very comfortable, plenty of room. The meals were nice, if you sit at the back of the car you get to go down and eat first. The bar tender was spot on. The tour guide that comes with the car pointed out some very interesting things along the way. There was a point, when dealing with the frost heaving, that the car moved pretty good, once we got past that is settled down for a very nice ride. The scenery was awesome!!!!!! To be able to ride through the country, wilderness and see all Alaska has to offer was a real treat. We even passed the flag stop train and were given the low down on how it operates and on some of the residents that use the flag stop train. To me the train part of the tour was the best part. If you do a cruise you REALLY need to make this a part of your trip
